so to answer some questions about successful appeals--i was rejected post-secondary (did not get an interview) and sent an appeal letter as a pdf attachment by email. somehow, totally miraculously, they accepted the appeal and i'm interviewing in january. i spent a lot of time on the letter (my bf and i spent a great deal of time sending it back and forth with edits). but i basically tried to show why i'm a good match for ucsf, academically and personally. so to those considering whether to appeal, do try! i wasn't hopeful at all, but getting the interview was the best surprise ever. especially since this is my first choice school. best of luck to everyone.

if you don't mind sharing, how long was it between submitting your appeal and getting an interview? thanks!

Anybody know wut's the email address for appeals?

Do what you want, but I mailed a typed and signed letter. Perhaps it's a little quaint, but I felt that was more formal and appropriate.

Good luck with the appeal! 👍

Application Status Website says:

"This site will be intermittently unavailable this Wednesday (Dec 15th) at 8:00 p.m. (PST) for approximately two hours for site maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you."

Does this mean that those who have interviewed can expect to have an update by 10:00 (PST) on Wednesday???? 🙂

is UCSF still handing out invites or is it pretty much coming to a close now?

They're still giving them out, and they're apparently really busy at this time of the year. Either wait, or call them if you have a question about where you stand. Remember they only interview less than 10% of the total number of applicants...

thanks. that is good to know.

True, but I prefer to focus on the statistics about how they interview 1/3 of people who have been invited for secondary applications. 😀

They will send out acceptances on the 15th of every month starting 12/15 and ending may 15 of course. And very few people get acceptances in December. I got this info from one of the executive members of the admissions committee.

I wouldn't hope for notification that very night, but given what DrPharaoh stated above they are going to start accepting people soon. I'm guessing that they need to move a few more code changes into production in order to support this.

But perhaps you'll be pleasantly surprised! :luck:

Does anyone know whether UCSF evaluates applicants throughout the cycle? As in, they don't reject anyone post-interview until the end? Thanks!

Good luck with finals for those who have them!

From where I'm sitting, you are most definitely not on the lower end of that spectrum.

Congrats! Can I ask when you were complete?

anyone hear anything last night??

I called today and no acceptances have been sent out yet. I wasn't given any specifics on when they will send the first round of acceptances though. Does anyone know what kind of responses we can expect? Do they immediately give out waitlists and/or rejects early in the game? Or will the possible responses be accept or silence?

I don't really know the answer to your questions, but from past threads it seems like there are very few outright acceptances given out. I was wondering though, did they mention if they would send out the first decisions before Christmas or not?

sorry in advance if this question has already been asked, but if you don't get a secondary, you don't have a status page to check for the PDF rejection letter right? i'm wondering how i'm supposed to know if i'm rejected then. i haven't gotten the secondary yet and am sort of in the "give up, don't really care anymore" mode now, but i'd like to know so i can rule that out. should i just call?

I believe they said that they will send out a decision as soon as the committee meets on your file (accept, waitlist/continued can't remember which, and reject). If no letter is sent, that means they haven't met on your file yet. I thought they said they would be sending out the first decisions around the end of december, but someone on this thread said it would be yesterday. And I thought that they said they would mail all decisions, but I could be wrong.

I may be mistaken, but I'm almost positive that they said that the first round of acceptances would be on December 15th. They also said that I probably wouldn't be in that pile, and I interviewed mid-October. I think they said that they send out acceptances once a month, on the 15th.

Do they send out e-mail, status updates, or snail mail??

My application portal says that they will tell me by status update. Every other status update has also come with an email telling me to check my status. They'll probably also send a letter. So I'd say all three 😉 but I'm just guessing.

You should still have a status page to check. I no longer remember how you set up an account but you use your AMCAS ID and date of birth to login. I didn't get a secondary either but I saw my rejection .pdf on the status page too.

hmm, i wonder if ucsf missed their 12/15 deadline for first acceptances, or if the number of people accepted is so few that it's a possibility none of them are on SDN.

I am wondering the same thing. I am hoping it's the former.

Relax guys, they told us we would hear back mid to late December. Also, someone above said they called after the 15th and were told no acceptances have been passed out. They have been interviewing since Sept. 27, so I would guess many acceptances will go out in this first round.

Does anyone know how many interview spots are left for UCSF? Or when they interview until?

This post on last year's thread suggested that they finished up at the end of February in 2009, and in past years they went into March.

Considering that most interviews are booked about a month out, I'd imagine that the last invites are sent out by late January. Eek, there's not much time left! 😱

I'm at 5 weeks post-secondary submission and still waiting. C'mon, UCSF! 😍

Hang in there. I'm at 9 weeks post-secondary submission...longest wait ever. I Submitted late October. No news is good news I guess.:xf: Hoping they interview into March this year.

i am in the same boat! about 4 weeks post-secondary submission after the appeal! i really hope there will be enough time for us!! :xf:

So life/work got all crazy and I was never able to send in an appeal (rejected pre-secondary). I checked the website and I cannot find anything about appeal deadlines. Anyone know if it's too late to send in an appeal in the hopes of getting a secondary?

:-\

All it costs is the stamp so I don't see why you shouldn't... but don't you think the weight of the appeal would be mostly gone if it's not sent right away? I mean obviously this wasn't your first choice school if you forgot about it.

Yeah, I was just doing that mental math and realizing that, if I get rejected again, there probably isn't even enough turnaround time to appeal a second time in hopes of being granted an interview. Which kind of amazes me since I submitted my AMCAS in June. 🙁

I am almost wondering if I should send a letter of intent. Just, ya know, in case they haven't picked up on the "subtlety" of my obsessive and desperate interest in UCSF. 🙄

Gah. This waiting is going to drive me mad, eventually. :xf: :xf:

Submitted secondary September 14th 2010. 3 Months and 8 days and heard nothing yet. I am pretty much giving up hope on my top choice. I will still send an update letter and letter of interest.

i'm not great about checking up on sdn (slow internet connection here!). but some overdue answers to questions about my post-secondary appeal 🙂

Anybody know wut's the email address for appeals?

I emailed it to [email protected]. I agree with Dianyla that a snail mailed letter is a much better idea if possible. The only reason I emailed is because I'm in India and I wanted it to get in as soon as possible. Also mail here is very unreliable 😛 To make my email look slightly more professional, I attached the letter as a pdf.

Questions about timing: I found the rejection pdf on Oct 20th (ish). Mailed my appeal letter on Nov 2nd. My status was updated with an interview invite on Nov 23rd.

hope this helps. good luck to all! :zip:

acceptance letter dated Dec 22nd. snail mail
no change on the website though.

Congratulations!! Although I wish they would update the website. It makes people on holiday have to wait and wait and wait...

Also I wonder if they have also sent any post-interview rejections?

thanks everyone! I interviewed on Oct 4th, live and go to college in the bay area.
Merry Christmas and good luck!

Congrats lemo! =) That's wonderful news. You are pretty much set!

I will be waiting on my porch on Monday with my fingers crossed!

Oh my lord... just checked status page! accepted! they haven't sent me an update email yet, so check your pages... you might find good news! (interviewed 10/25) 🙂 :luck:

Congrats!!!! Mine has not been updated yet. Hoping for the acceptance still, but does anyone know if they do post-interview rejections prior to March?

Just checked the status page. ACCEPTED!!! Interviewed October 12. OOS Good luck to everyone else!!

heyy kp, are you oos?

Hey, yeah I should have written. I'm applying MD/PhD actually, and I don't think they consider state residency. (Although I am OOS.) Also I heard back about MD but not MD/PhD yet, so I still have waiting to do...

Good luck to you, though, and to everyone else waiting to hear! (And to me too while I'm at it )

no update yet and i interviewed on day 2 haha i guess one of my interviewers couldnt make a meeting between october and december?

It seems like they are using status updates to communicate with OOS and MD/PHD applicants, and snail mail for ISers.
