I'm from OOS, non-WICHE, and I have a 3.67 and 34. My interview is in November though...

I am OOS, and got my interview for November today!!! Does anyone know if a later interview date affects your chance for admission?

I got an interview for Nov even though I should count as In-State (it sounds like all the other in-staters got a September interview?) Tier 3 interview from my state school? Sad face. Hope that's not a waitlist interview date.

They interview into March... And accept people who interview in March. Interviewing in November is not a Tier 3 spot, not late in the game, and definitely not a slap in the face. You should be happy.

I'd kill for a November interview and I'm in-state too.

I'm in-state. Got an interview invite yesterday, for Sept 24th. Woo hoo! Anyone else interviewing then?

Stats: 34R 3.8

Ugggh. My hard drive crashed today. I've got my login and password (at least I think so) for the CU admissions status page but can't find the actual URL. Could someone post it please?

thanks.

Wow, looks like those with superior stats currently offered interviews. I hope they're planning on interviewing those with average stats.

For all you guys that are applying first time this year. I applied last year with an August MCAT, so I was complete in September. I did not receive any word until 2 days before the last interview date. Sometime before this date they notified most all applicants that had not received interview invites that they would not be receiving invites or offers of admission. Apparently, they keep a few files open in case a spot opens up (as was my case). I interviewed and rest assured when/if you interview, it is not just for a waitlist spot.

I am a non-trad applicant with extensive and unique EC's and good academic standing from undergrad, so the major short coming of my application was my MCAT's. I did not receive an offer of admission, but CU has a great opportunity should you not receive admission to meet with the Associate Dean of Admissions after the process is over. They evaluate your complete application and make specific recommendations based on your file for improving your application for reapplication. I have taken said steps and hope to gain admission this year.

Let me know if you guys have any questions on the actual interviews or process.

Congrats to all with interviews, I hope I get one! I am a TX resident but I have family in CO and my parents are moving there next year (we love CO!!!).

Interview invite today, though it isn't until November. It's on a Saturday though which is best for me, except I'll be missing a football game.

Got an interview invite for November as well! What date? Mine's the 20th

Got an interview for next Fri . . . kinda nervous :scared: we'll see, right? Any key advice from those who've interviewed before?

Can someone explain to me what Tier 3 interview spots are, etc.?

There are no "Tier 3" interview spots. While I will not pretend to know (and no one outside of the admissions committee knows), how and why some applicants are selected for later interview dates, some of it is obviously when you are complete and maybe they interview some with higher stats (MCAT/GPA) and maybe In-state gets some preference earlier, but who knows...

All you should be concerned with is 'if' you get an interview. If you interview in September or March, you ARE interviewing for admission not wait list. The majority of acceptances are reserved and most applicants do not find out their status until the end of March. They do start handing out some acceptances in late October or early November to the top candidates, but even if you interview in September and don't hear anything until March, don't be too concerned (check last years thread and you will see how many interviewed early and were offered admission late or those that interviewed late and were offered admission as well).

I, along with other applicants, were told that the interview is weighed more heavily than any other part of your application. So, if offered an interview, you can overcome other short comings of your application if you smoke it. On the other hand, if you tank the interview, your other stats will not matter. I know a few people that had high MCAT and GPA last year (38+ MCAT) and were rejected, while some with lower MCAT were accepted because they performed well on the interview.

Just be yourself and make sure you've practiced so you don't say a lot of "ums" or send any messages you don't want to send. From what all the adcoms and student interviewers tell the interviewees, it's about relaxing and being yourself, i.e. don't make anything up because you think it's what they want to hear or be disrespectful and all those things.

You'd be surprised at some of the things people say or do that sabotage their changes.

As far as I recall, when I spoke with the admission office earlier this year, that was not true--they said they tiered stuff. Anyway, I agree with the rest of your post, and I think it holds true for most MD schools.

I'd be interested in jc's "things people do to screw themselves" list lol.

Ok I see what you are saying... I agree, I am sure they tier applicants in some fashion, but a Nov interview invite given out with the rest of the first round offers for interviews should not be a cause of concern. Look at it this way, most people that interview don't find out anything until March. You will spend less time fretting over whether or not you did well. Just know this, you were invited to interview because CU considers you a qualified candidate for admission. That is it! And while half of the interview is to further explore your potential as a student and doctor in person, the other half is to convince YOU why or why not CU is the right school for you (should you have other options).

As for people screwing themselves over...

As for the interview, use common sense. Case in point, don't be that guy. From what I saw on my interview day there were two of those guys. The first was the guy that through his comments, demeanor and over all doucheness in the large group Q/A. I don't know how his one on one interviews but myself and a few of the other interviewees couldn't stand him. Then there was the guy that didn't wear a suit, he opted for the designer clubbing shirt and accompanying slacks, maybe he was catching a flight to NYC to go to an expensive club with a strict dress code immediately after the interview, who knows, but everyone else was wearing a suit. Yeah, be yourself, but come on man! Everyone knows you wear a suit to the biggest interview of your life, right?

Also, when I attended the post-rejection small group feedback session (Do this if you don't get in!), one guy was arrogantly inquiring about why he did not get in because his stats MCAT and GPA were so far above average. I can only guess he went into his interview with the same sense of entitlement...

I'm on the 20th too!
also bummed about missing my last football game as a student... worth it though, love this school!

Thought some might find this info useful. It's on the UCD faq.

"Normally 25 offers are made initially after October 15th, and a comparable number in November, December and January. Our process is completed early March, and by the end of March all candidates who have been interviewed will receive notification as to whether they are accepted, on the alternate list (1, 2 or 3) or not accepted."

"The evaluation process starts soon after an application is complete. Since we screen each applicant individually, the process may take from several weeks to a couple of months. We utilize a system that enables us to evaluate the most academically qualified students first, although in the review, we go well beyond the academics in making decisions as to who is invited. Patience is of the essence."

The second one makes sense, as someone noted most of the early interviews are high stats.

A friend of mine was a student interviewer and had someone say "pass" to the tell me about yourself question.

haha. I think I was in your group that day. Although, it's entirely possible that there are a number of douchebags that have the same odd sense of entitlement...

Anyway, that was the exact same impression I got from a guy in my group. Scores or no scores, if they don't like you, you're not getting in.

Does anyone know the structure of the interviews at U of Colorado? I see they have the two group interview sessions, but does that mean you interview with other candidates, or do you meet with an admissions person one on one, or a combo of the two?

Two one-on-one interview sessions (30 minutes each) with a member of the admissions committee (faculty or student). There are group sessions but that is mostly the school putting out information to the interviewees. Then MS1's come in and lunch is provided. Following lunch the MS1's take small groups on a tour of the school.

Does anyone happen to know, or can within a certain degree of assumption, make an educated guess on what the In-State MCAT range is for applicants invited to interview? I heard there's no minimum...

I know of a 28 and 29's who have gained acceptance in the past cycles.

Same day, looks like I will see you there! Wonder how many other Montanans or WICHE candidates will be there.

How do they go about interviews and acceptances? Website, Email, or snail mail? I know some are still using snail mail for certain things.

Are OOS getting any yet? Grrrr...I like COLORADO!

There was one person from Texas in my interview group, everyone else was IS.

I remember meeting her, she was on the same tour as me. She must have been really special to get an interview on the first day, with so many other ISers!

I've gotten one, but its not until November. I think they just process out of state apps a little bit slower than in-state. I could be wrong about that too, just the general feeling I get from reading various threads on the forums.

Hey, for those of you lucky enough to attend an interview already, I was wondering if the school gave you any information about computers? For example, do you need a specific set of equipment in order to receive IT support at school or is any decent laptop okay?

My old desktop computer just crashed so I'm about to buy a laptop... I would hate to get something that isn't going to be acceptable in med school.

Thanks.

I can't recall exactly, but I think a few of the students said something about the administration preferring students to have a certain kind of computer. Not sure though.

Anything that can run powerpoints and .docx files is fine. I would say slightly more than half of the class uses macs.

Thanks guys! I went ahead and bought a Sony Vaio. Now I just need to get accepted to CU and I'll be golden.

Do all letters of evaluation have to be received before your application can be reviewed? I've run into a bit of a problem as one of my former teachers hasn't submitted his although he said he'd be finished 3 months ago! My application was complete (with the exception of this 1 letter) on August 23.
