Accepted as well!! SWEET!! No phone call though. I hope they call me, that would be fun haha.

Interviewed on 9/24 and in-state as well.

Edit: Ding 1,000 posts. Pretty good post for my 1000th I would say!

I have to stop checking SDN, it's going to make me crazier than I already am....haha.

Ahh good luck on your interview FlowRate!!
Thanks, it's not for a little while still but I'm looking forward to it! CO is like my #2 I think (discounting a few factors that are unknowns right now), which is pretty good considering that my #1 only accepts ~25% of interviewees and I won't hear back for a while lol.

Agreed. At first I thought it was bad when all those interviews were going out.

That was nothing compared to now.

Anyone know if you aren't accepted in the acceptances sent after your interview day (I interviewed 9/24), does that mean you're most likely waiting 'til March to hear anything or do they re-evaluate each month and there's a chance you'll hear before then?

I posted it in the Temple thread but I'll put it here as well:

Congratulations to all of my fellow applicants and good luck to the rest of my future colleagues who may or may not receive acceptances over the next week. If today isn't your day, tomorrow will be! Keep the dream alive!!!

It is unfortunately a really long application season 🙁 Sometimes I wish medical school applications were like the residency match... everyone would get to find out together on the same day.

CU is, as I understand, notorious for keeping people in the dark until March. They even admitted this at the interview day. I wouldn't fret, as you still have excellent chances at CU. In the meantime, I think it's the struggle of everyone who goes through this process to take every day as it comes. Enjoy life, despite the uncertainty of the future -- it doesn't exist yet, right? Whenever this stuff starts to stress me out, I go and do something that I love, like cycling, or reading a book.

If SDN is making you guys feel bad, don't come here! I stopped coming on this site for weeks and weeks, just because I was so stressed out.

This was all somewhat unsolicited advice, but I thought I should say it! Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with me, best of luck through this process and I've no doubt that you will succeed in your dream, if not necessarily exactly in the way you thought it would happen. Life is funny like that. I ended up at my bottom choice school for college, but after graduating I can firmly say that there was no better school for me, probably in the country. Take care guys!

I am pretty sure that they reevaluate each month, once a month, for acceptances. As far as I understand, it's entirely possible to interview on 9/24, then get accepted in December.

Is this at Cleveland Clinic? I think I saw you saying something about that in the Case thread. Good luck whichever school it is 🙂

Yeah interview at CU is good, they took us into the Children's Hospital and that place is amaazing. I was really happy overall, it seems like a very balanced school. Balance is important anywhere, but especially in medicine in my opinion. I've heard that if you want to evaluate how good a school is at allowing their students to live healthy lives, look at how the faculty live their lives. Do they have families? Do they do things on the weekend? I can't say I have finished considering CU in this respect, but the faculty I met so far seemed like they led balanced lives. They were deeply passionate about their work, but also very devoted to their families and personal lives. But I only met a few faculty, so it's really hard to generalize based on that!

This is exactly what happened to me when I interviewed in '09. I got my acceptance on Christmas Eve. It helped that I had really put it into my head not to expect anything until March.

Yeah. Children's is pretty nice. Although, it's possible to go through your entire CU education without stepping foot inside the building. That being said, I highly recommend the cafeteria--it's pretty cheap (especially when you get the student discount) and surprisingly tasty.

As far as the faculty is concerned, I serve on a few school committees and I'm consistently impressed by the pre-clinical faculty. So far, they've proven to be great student advocates and they really tend to keep an eye on what is most important. They also try to include students in every committee in the school of medicine, including task forces. Every block is followed by a evaluation by a focus group of students. As far as the clinical faculty is concerned, I think I'd need to spend a little more time on the wards before I could give you a fair opinion.

I've personally had plenty of time to screw around and still be a decent student throughout my first year--after anatomy, of course.

Hey all, not sure if this has gotten out yet, but Ms. Dimple Patel, the new CU Med Director of Admissions, recently sent out an email letting premedical advisors know they just sent out the initial set of "Accepted" letters and plan to send out the first batch of "Denied" letters next week. She wanted premedical advisors to let this out to applicants, so I thought I'd spread the word here so as to lighten the load on your advisors!

They just hired a new Director of Admissions and she has apparently fought to change this. Initial acceptance decisions just came out (per Ms. Patel) and denied decisions will be sent out starting next week.

Best of luck to all!

Wow, that would be nice. However, now I don't really want to see an email from CU next week, lol.

haha.... Well, maybe there'll be some acceptances mixed in there. Ms. Patel's email wasn't much more specific than what I mentioned above. Basically, just know acceptances are underway as are denials. Hopefully you'll get some good news soon! Good luck!

Interview invite today for late November!

Excited to check out my in-state school.

Excited to check out my in-state school.

It's pretty sweet! I took a tour last year, November. Great facilities, great people, lots of money and ideas coming in. You're lucky to have such a school in your backyard.

Keepin my fingers crossed. Same stats but OOS.

Congrats and gl to you.

I completed my application on 9/8 and I haven't received heads or tails of anything since then. Am I done for? What was the length of time it took from submission to hear back from them? And do they send out a rejection notice?

You aren't necessarily hosed, it seems CU has been pretty quiet lately. They will do interview invites all the way out until March. As for rejections, if they have no intention of interviewing, I believe they sent out those early March last year. Post interview rejections and waitlist status are saved for the end of March.

The initial rounds of acceptances and rejections have been sent out. Submitting late to CU isn't well-advised but what's done is done. You'll probably end up interviewing pretty late (if you get offered one). Are you in-state? If you're an in-state applicant, take advantage of your school's premed advisor as they will be kept up to date on the process by Ms. Patel. If not, you're just going to have to wait and see what's posted here.

Keep in mind things are changing quite a bit for them this year. They have a new admissions staff that is switching things around internally, so we are likely to see some significant differences this year in timing and the way some notifications are done as well as interviews, decisions, etc. Rejections have already begun being sent out, as have acceptance offers (not just interviews). They're getting the ball rolling early. They're also improving outreach by a long-shot. The admissions dept really seems to be moving in a positive direction this year, IMO.

As mentioned above it doesn't seem like CU has been very active yet. According to their website, last year they offered 668 interviews in groups of 25 to 30, so there must still be plenty of interviews to come. I am in a similar boat, complete 9/16, in state, no news yet.

In terms of secondary availability CU was quite late, with their secondary application not even available til mid August. Also didn't it say upon secondary submission that CU does not chronologically assess applications - they have a system that allows the to evaluate "most qualified applicants" first? So not sure if they really had the ball rolling early this year compared to many other schools.

Has anyone gotten an interview invite recently?

I totally agree. I had heard some horror stories from previous applicants and current students (on the interview day one student said not to judge the school by the admissions office since he felt that they really dropped the ball in previous years). So far I think the CU admissions office has been doing a good job this year.

By the way, the amendments on the CO ballot that would have impacted (negatively) funding for higher ed among other things all failed yesterday.

I had heard on here about the rejections sent out. Were they pre-interview or post? Does anyone have any idea how many went out?

Overall, the admissions staff has always been helpful, but these seem like good changes. If they have no intention of interviewing it is better to get a rejection now than in March.

Accepted today! Got the e-mail from the school. I was kinda surprised to receive an acceptance today just because I thought they sent them out once a month, and the last batch of acceptances was back in the middle of October. Random that they sent out an acceptance at the beginning of November. Go figure...when I first saw the e-mail in my inbox, I thought it was going to be a rejection. Thank goodness it wasn't! I would have been so disappointed if my beloved state med school had done that to me.

Second acceptance of the week! Georgetown was my first. 🙂

Mind if I ask when you interviewed? Congratulations!

I"m still waiting to hear from CU but it's in my top 4 right now 😀.

I don't know if they talked about it all to you guys who have interviewed/toured but they're in the middle of building a new VA (hence all the construction).
I did an internship at the Cancer Center over the summer and it really sold me on the school. I'm not a huge fan of Aurora (I live outside boulder so the commute killed me this summer) but it grew on me. If anyone's interested in research or the possiblity of working with a researh oriented company, behind campus, that big industrial park, is Fitzsimons. I got a chance to tour the facilities and it's all just so awesome.

*end CU praise*

Congrats on those acceptences guys!
Here's hoping for some in-state love <3

I interviewed with the very first batch of interviewees back on September 24th.

Cool, me too. Thanks! I was a little worried when people had heard from our interview group in that first batch of acceptances--good to know I could still hear good news.

They interview into March... And accept people who interview in March. Interviewing in November is not a Tier 3 spot, not late in the game, and definitely not a slap in the face. You should be happy.
Any idea when the March interviews take place?
Thanks

I believe last year, the interviews went through the first week of March. I don't know how much later they would go considering the mandatory notification to applicants by 31 March. But, according to posters on here the admissions process has been tweaked a bit, so who knows?

On the building theme, the Children's Hospital and Univeristy Hospital are also getting substantial additions that should be complete in 2012. I don't know exactly what this will mean for student experiences, but they seem like really positive things.

All the best to you fellow interviewees!

Man, now that acceptances are going out so "late," it is much more stressful interviewing "late" here (compared to other IS applicants and my other rolling interviews) Still won't be there for another 1.5 weeks! But I'll hope for the best and I know everyone said that they interview through the cycle and keep acceptances available, although it also sounds like this is a totally different administration this year.

I wouldn't be stressed about it at all. They've only been interviewing for a little over a month, so I'd still consider you to be early, really.

hey everybody! i have my interview here on November 15. less than 5 days away! i'll be staying with a student host. how do interviewees here usually get from the school to the airport after the interview day is done? is there a shuttle or bus that takes us back to the airport?

I recommend public bus. You'd have to transfer once, but it goes to the airport.

Use the trip planner at http://www.rtd-denver.com

Other than that, you're looking at taxi or airport shuttle.

anyone know when the next group of acceptances are going to be sent out?

Nope, but if you're looking for a pattern, they sent the first ones the week after the 15th and then they sent more on november 3rd. So it's possible it's every other week, or that they just do it when they feel like it.

Quite possibly. Maybe they're alternating weeks -- one week acceptances, the next rejections. I really have no idea. Good luck, guys & congrats on the invites & acceptances!

has anyone from the October 15th interview group heard anything? the wait is killing me. it seems like something could be sent out this week right?

Hard to say, I think any week is as likely as another. But the first set went out the week of the 18th of Oct and the second one two weeks later on Nov 3. My best friend was accepted from an Oct. 25 interview on Nov. 3, so I'd guess some people from the 15th interviews were accepted.

*shudders*

That is not good news.

not what I wanted to hear, but thanks for the info JCWHITTS

I wouldn't take it as bad news. My accepted friend has a 4.0/38 and is In-state. I also know of people, who you can see earlier in the thread, who interviewed with me on 9/24 and were not accepted in the 1st set of acceptances but were in the second set. I also know of someone I expect to get in who interviewed earlier with a 4.0/36 and strong everything else (edit: who also hasn't heard anything yet).

The admissions website says this: October 16: First offers of acceptance, and monthly thereafter until the class is filled
Early March: class selected. So, I'm guessing they are going to be sending acceptances out the first week of each month based on acceptances going out the 1st week of November, and we should be ready to hear anytime between now and March.

And I wouldn't despair until there's a concrete reason for doing it or you'll go crazy!
