Cole i really think you need to move on and mind your business. you're accepted, woohoo, kudos. however, i have noticed an inherent sense of arrogance in your posts over the last several weeks in many different threads. please consider the implications of some of your comments before posting. you don't need to point out the painfully obvious detriment of others or establish your superiority. although you laugh at being called a troll, you are at times contributing to that negative image here at SDN, making people feel less confident of their own standing.

sry for this rant but i felt compelled to make a statement.

So... first rejection. Waiting to hear back from so many schools. I can't help but feel down about it. I have no idea what may happened. I remember dozing off while Ruiz was speaking and then talking to him later and making a stupid excuse about it. I really hope this was it and not my lack of interviewing skills. Is that something you think he may remember?

Don't worry about it. I had 3 great interviews, and I still did not get accepted. It happens; I wouldn't worry about it. To be honest I think the competition is just really incredible and at the end of the day you're probably an amazing candidate, but the University of Michigan was looking for something else. Don't take it as a reflection of you not being a good candidate. Plus Mr. Ruiz told everyone that the interview is just one portion of what they rate people on; I remember him saying that you could have 3 great interviews and get wait-listed and someone could have 3 mediocre interviews and get accepted.

Again I wouldn't worry too much, just take any Lesson learned from this and apply it to your next interview.

is michigan a wait-list heavy school? i feel like it's not

For those of you who just faced rejection - I know it seems like the worst thing in the world right now, but try to gain something from it. I'm a re-applicant and remember hearing back from the last interview and it was devastating to know I'd have to wait another year to get into school. It turns out that was probably the best thing that could've happened to me. Just because life doesn't go the way you want it doesn't mean that isn't a really good thing. I don't mean to sound preachy, sorry if that is, but hopeful...

Waitlisted. The kiss of death here. Good luck to the rest of you! 🙂

Anyone else deferred to December? After no midnight e-mail I'm so amazingly relieved.

CONGRATS to all of those accepted - I went to michigan for undergrad and grad school and it really is a great environment with amazing faculty!

I vaguely remember director Ruiz saying on the day of the interview that the waitlist is not a good place to be. Last year they accepted only two people off the list.

Same here... while not the acceptance I wanted, it's the next best thing. What's a couple months of waiting... right?

Waitlisted. **** it, I'd rather not be in the same state as the Detroit Lions anyway. 😉

Same here. But it's all good, now I can walk around and let everyone know that I'm "highly desirable" 😀.

Totally agree about the what's meant to be vs what you wanted

I was deferred until December...I don't know if I should be disappointed, neutral, or happy lol. What are the chances of getting in after getting deferred?

well i guess i was deferred too.. which sucks but is better than nothing.

i guess i was wondering about what the chances are of getting in at this point are too.

Waitlisted as well 🙁. Sorry to everyone who also fell in love with this school and didn't get the acceptance email, but remember what Dr. Ruiz told us: 98% of applicants who interview at Michigan get an acceptance to at least one school. So good luck with the rest of your interviews everyone, we'll most likely be running into each other many more times in many more strange and unfamiliar states 🙂

Is everyone's status page updated yet? Mine still hasn't changed...

Also, I don't know about the specific numbers, but I remember at the interview Director Ruiz said that the chances were still pretty good if you get a deferral. They can't accept everyone they like right away because they have to hold spots for people they haven't interviewed yet. By deferring some applicants, it gives them a chance to compare you to the people who are still interviewing.

yeah I checked and was deferred. I guess i was freaking out about nothing but still it hurt my confidence.

I am considering sending an update letter. How much do you think I need to have in order to do this. I was just invited to join one of the most selective honors societies at my university (one that actually does stuff on campus). Is this good enough?

cole = top ten reason NOT to think Michigan lol :roflcopter: (I'm joking of course...)

The fact that Cole might go there is good consolation to those who didn't get the good news.

:smack:

Hope you guys aren't being serious.

Of course not. I'm sure he's an outstanding individual. I was more making a play on the UMich website's "Top 10 Reasons to Think Michigan", but was joking at any rate.

Has anyone not heard anything yet? I haven't gotten an email or a status update yet...

👍 For real...talk about random/misplaced animosity.

cole's post seemed pretty innocent to me....

but i dunno, maybe i'm not on sdn enough to know people's history of posts haha

anyhoo, when's second look weekend supposed to be? Excited!!

Does anyone know the percentage of students interviewed/accepted from the latest MSAR? Thanks!

This website is a much better source for statistical information than the MSAR (mainly because the MSAR doesn't reveal how many students were actually accepted, only how many matriculated). It states that 419 were accepted out of 743 interviewees. I recall them saying at the interview day this year that they would be accepting 350 out of 670 interviewees (which I guess now is down to 660) so the percentage is still greater than 50%.

Maybe I'm being dense, or am missing something, but wouldn't they need to accept around the same number each year? I mean I'm sure they have an idea of how many students choose to go to other schools. By setting a fixed number of 350 (which is less than what they had in previous years) wouldn't they risk not filling their class?

I always thought the number of accepted students was somewhat of an ambiguous/misleading term. It could mean the number they accept outright or, more likely, the number they accept outright plus the number they pull off the waitlist. So that number could probably mean more accurately the number of people who were at one time offered admission. If the 350th person decided not to attend then they would just "accept" 351 people by offering admission to someone on the waitlist. Does that make sense?

Yeah that makes a lot more sense. The number that the previous poster provided was most likely "accepted outright" + "accepted off waitlist", whereas UM is mostly likely proving the number they plan on accepting outright (and will therefore have to account for discrepancies which would affect said number). Thanks for the clarification.

The U of M admissions site was updated this morning. It looks like they have offered another 25 interviews (525/660) and it says they made 34% of their admissions offers.

Judging by how they front-loaded interviews, I thought they'd have offered many more acceptances than that. Just a little sliver of hope for those of us who don't even have an interview from U Mich yet...😳

The accepted applicant picture profile was made available to us this week. It looks like 122 people have been accepted so far.

I know what Cole looks like now, haha.

On their twitter account they say how it pays to apply early..I submitted my application early July and it stings that people who submitted in August/September are being reviewed and my status still says "File complete -- under review". Did they just forget me?? My stats aren't stellar but they're good enough to be considered a strong candidate for UM.

I hear ya...it still says 8/24 file complete -- under review for me. It is frustrating to see those invitations trickling away...but we have got to be patient. If they want to interview us, it will happen and whether we are the first or the last invitations I hope it doesn't make a difference to the admissions committee. This time next year, all of this will be in the DISTANT past.

Hey everyone, just to give y'all some what of a time frame. I just received an interview invite and I transmitted mid September.

Does anyone know how fast you have to give a response to medical schools once you know you've been accepted? This is for UofM, but also just in general.

Application Screening Completed
Your application has been reviewed. At this point we are not able to offer you an interview. Additional reviews may take several months as we compare groups of applicants. Thank you for your patience.

This means one fewer applicant to compete with. Best of luck to all of you.

I got the impression that Michigan specifically doesn't require a response until May 15th. I know there are some schools that require a response with a few weeks, though.

Complete 8/11. MCAT: 38R, 3.6GPA. Just got interview invite for 2 dates in late JANUARY!!! At least I have relatives up there... Although I am quite thankful for the interview, I am :scared:! Why such late notice? Why such late dates? I thought good numbers got early decisions and interview dates? I haven't even heard back from my in-state schools... (and VCU has "reservations" about granting me an interview).

Anyway, good luck to everyone else who is waiting!

Congrats on the interview.

Maybe the problem is your fondness for a notorious crank who invented his own school of quackery.
