I did not know what this was going to feel like...

but tonight at 7:15 I got a call from a blocked number, picked up without any expectation, and it was Dr. Granger wondering if I remembered her from interview day...Of course I did! Folks, UNC is #1 for me and they gave me a spot. I am beyond relieved and happy and I sincerely sincerely hope you get good news too! Here are the stats:

In-state
re-applicant after being waitlisted last year (purgatory)
GPA 3.4 MCAT 32S
Worked 2 yrs in translational research post college, def. felt weak in shadow exp tho

This has come as a major surprise and major relief after waiting it out last year and worrying that I hadn't gotten a whole lot stronger. Good luck to everyone else out there, I am so excited to see you get to go here or somewhere else you want next fall!

------

Sorry forgot the dates: (which were a HUGE concern for me, I waited and waited on that waitlist and felt like I had shot myself in the foot for this app round)

Amcas submitted 8/14
Amcas processed 9/7
Supplemental invite 10/7
Interview invite 11/30
Interviewed 12/14
Accepted 01/24!!!!

Congrats! If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview?

Haha no, don't know anybody. I wonder how late they call too. Good luck! Hopefully tonight is our night guys!

Congratulations! I know how the reapplicant/waitlist thing is with UNC. I hope you enjoy the next few, worry-free months! 🙂

I can't begin to explain how excited I am for this! I have been waiting for this my entire life!

For those interested:

Re-applicant
Call today at 6:15 PM
Interviewed 11/2
Interview Invite 10/12
Complete 9/16
Supplemental Invite 9/10

I listed all of these dates because that was what I was most interested in when reading the blog. I hope it helps current applicants and future applicants. I wish everyone the best of luck in the admissions process. I know it can be stressfull considering this is my third time around! I don't think that it has set in yet that I will be attending one of the best medical schools in the country in a few months! My dream has come true!

We interviewed the same day! Did you receive any e-mail from them saying your file has been reviewed, but no final decision? I received that more then a month ago now 🙁 ... but congratulations!

I received the same email, right before they went on Christmas break, I think. I have no idea what that could mean, if it actually means anything.

I guess they're probably not making any more calls this late. I hope they're not just saving the rejections for tomorrow.

Does UNC give post-interview rejections? Or do applicants not immediately admitted remain in the 're-review' pool until April?

I just went through last year's post. It seems like no post-interview rejections were given. That's even more depressing. I just want to know!

How long after your interview did you receive the 'no decision has yet been made' email?

It gives me hope people interviewing in very early November are still being admitted. After the next 2 weeks pass, I'm going to start to worry about my Nov 30 interview. Though, I suppose the huge delays from the holiday season and winter weather probably moved everyone back 2-4 weeks. Perhaps that's wishful thinking.

I interviewed 11/02, and the e-mail came on 12/17 I believe. I called to clarify ... apparently I was reviewed once, but no final decision was made. Don't know if that's a good thing or bad.

Accepted @ 9:30pm EST.

Interviewed October 25. Had an uphill battle for in-state status for residency, but was eventually granted it. At any rate, just providing a little hope for anyone else who interviewed 2+ months ago.

3.76cGPA/3.85sGPA, 37Q, IS, first time applicant taking a gap year working as a barista while my husband is getting a Master's in Chicago. I'm thinking they waited so long because I'm a Dukie 😛

So I have been wondering if there are other people here who are in the same position as me. I am:

in state (and moved to NC last year in order to be so!)
first time applicant
interviewed: first week of November
didn't receive an "application reviewed" e-mail others have been mentioning

I haven't heard a word. I called after 10 weeks and the guy said they hadn't made a decision yet, but I'm not sure if that meant they'd already reviewed my application or not. I've noticed that a number of people who interviewed after me have received decisions, but it looks like they've all been OOS or in-state re-applicants.

So for those of you who are like me, in-state, first time applicants who interviewed in November or later, have any of you heard from the adcom? Either way? Or are we all still sitting on our hands?

IS
First-time applicant
Interviewed Nov 30

Not a word. No 'no decision yet' email.

In my futile attempt to rationalize this silly process, I believe there have only been 2 adcom meetings since I interviewed, when the '6-8 weeks' time line implies 3-4 adcom meetings.

Maybe they're just behind. Maybe we don't rank very high relative to other candidates. It's killing me but I think I should wait for one more meeting before getting worried. Or I'll receive the No Decision email tomorrow.

Our only option is maddening patience. UNC is known for being slow.

Cster, I think your logic is correct. I don't think they've gotten to you yet, so take some solace, if you will, in my assessment. They are so back logged and with the holidays and snow, they have not gotten to you.
Don't drive yourself crazy (like I am, tho so EZ to say). I think I'm gonna try to get an early night's sleep because I feel like **** tonight. 🙁

Nessy! Thanks for your great words.

Sadly, I've let the prospect of The Call (and it's subsequent absence) get me down, too. It's amazing - and depressing - how this can dominate everything and the waiting killed my productivity tonight.

As for your situation, I know UNC actively reviews people through April. That is, there are no silent rejections. That's the one benefit of UNC's stinginess when it comes to granting interviews. I'm sure you'll be fine.

I'm not sure what you are saying??? I think that since I interviewed in early Oct., that I've already been silently rejected, don't you think so??

It is my understanding from speaking with people at UNC (not just the admissions office) that one's application is fair game until final decisions are made (apparently in April).

I know of people who interviewed early only to be admitted in March. And I think you can find examples of that in last cycle's thread.

Carolina only has one more month of interviews yet they - allegedly - make decisions through March and early April. All is not lost!

Nearly identical stats. 3.7s/3.87c, 38S, IS and have been teaching HS in a rural area. Still waiting! Interviewed in September! Maybe its the non-trad aspect and the poor interview.

But anyway, congrats!

I never received an email like that. This was the first correspondence from UNC since I interviewed. I know this may hamper your spirits, but I agree with what everyone else is saying in regards to acceptances through April. It's just a long waiting game, and I have been waiting for 3 long years! Good luck!

Just got word of someone who interviewed in early September and just got the acceptance call this week. Hope is definitely not lost.

Congrats to everyone who got in, I can't imagine how excited you guys must be feeling right now.

If you don't mind me asking what are your stats and who did you interview with? I have an almost identical time line to yours, so this makes me wonder if I've been reviewed yet or not.

I really don't like this waiting game...

Hey Wishing41,

I tried to include as much info as possible so you wouldn't have to ask but I forgot!

I was in-state applicant, from UNC actually, with a 3.75 GPA and BCPM GPA at the time of application and a 38S MCAT. I feel like yesterday they probably had to overwork. I remember them saying we'd find out in 4-6 weeks so I think they will meet again to complete looking at my cohort of applicants.

GL to all! (I hate the waiting game too)

Congrats to all that were accepted!

So, I called today to ask about my status ... being that I have no patience. Joni answered ... looked up my status and transferred me to Randee. Randee said "We are verifying and checking out a few things and we will be getting statuses out very soon". That sounds like rejections are coming soon ... and I'll be one of them.

I guess it's meant for me to go super far away from my family/boyfriend in 6 months. Booo.

🙁

Oh snap. Let's hope that's not the case (re: rejections).

What's frustrating (and confusing) is the mixture of recent (early Jan) and late (Sept/Oct) interviews that are being admitted. I know the Committee constantly ranks candidates as they are interviewed but I don't know whether to interpret the reported admits as they've largely moved beyond my general interview time frame or they are truly considering a broad time range at each meeting.

-Last year I received a rejection letter the third week of January after interviewing early October.

-Judging by the wide range of applicant time frames we've seen I'd say that the no news rule really applies here. Stay positive!!!

From what I have heard the admissions committee looks at applicants once, and a select few get in on that first look. The rest get reviewed periodically and acceptances come as you make the cut. Put another way, if after interviewing you they just MUST have you, a quick call comes (first or second adcom meeting). If you are a maybe, you are put in a stack to wait and see how the other candidates stack up, and depending on how you rank, you can hear something up until the end of march. At that time each school must have all of it's seats filled. Therefore, based on the number of students that normally accept at the end of march they create a waitlist and rejection list, and many of you (and me) will hear something then.

Hope this helps, good luck to all.

This is my understanding of UNC's 'method,' as well. Well articulated.

just wanted to tip my hat in here and let you guys know I'm in the same boat as a lot of you who have been posting. Interviewed back at the end of october and haven't heard a peep since. I called the office in the beginning of January and was told I'd hear something soon, and if I didn't that I should call back in a few weeks. Since I consider myself a pretty competitive applicant as far as gpa, mcat, ec's, and I didn't botch the interview (i think?), I'm trying to be optimistic.

I agree with bige11's assessment of the school's decision making process. It seems that a majority of acceptances (at least those that have been posted on sdn) are from reapplicants and applicants with extraordinary MCATS and GPAs. Since history shows they don't fill their whole class with this demographic of applicants, the rest of us will probably just need to sit tight and see how things shake out in the spring. anyway congratulations to those who have been accepted and good luck to the rest of us!

Hi everyone,
I should have posted earlier but I got accepted Monday night around 8:30 pm. I interviewed on September 14(it was the third or fourth day of interviews), so I waited more than 4 months!! I thought the wait was a bit ridiculous for rolling admissions but for those who are still waiting, be patient!!

Good luck everybody!

stats if you want to know
IS first time applicant, 33S, 3.75c
I also got the "we're still reviewing your app" email about a month ago.

Congratulations Hollolily! That makes me feel a bit better as well. I felt like the "reviewing your app" email meant that we'd be waitlisted/rejected as soon as waitlists/rejections start coming out! Really hope we'll be classmates next year! I absolutely love UNC!

Good luck everybody!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

As an FYI to those who have yet to receive interview invites, there are ~60 interview spots still unscheduled, all of which are in February.

There's still hope!

The silence confirms the fact that there will not be additional adcom meetings. Comforting in a way seeing as I haven't received a call yet!

Rejection just came. Didn't really expect it. Sad ... loved UNC.

I just got the rejection email as well. Too bad.

FWIW: 37 MCAT, 3.6 GPA, Physics BS, In-State, UNC Alum.

Same. Its unfortunate since one interviewer said he thought I would get in. Too bad my committee interviewer also did my exit interview last year. She was an awful woman who took month to return my call, and then told me not to bother even applying this year. Anyway, good luck to everyone still waiting, UNC is a great school!

Girl, does this mean you will be headed to Omaha or are you still waiting to hear from any other school? (I am in the same boat and saw your post in the other thread)
