For the secondary question "Describe your most significant personal challenge, how it affected you and what you learned from it." would it be ok to write about something academic, like research, or is it better to write about something non-academic that you struggled with?

mine was a little bit of both...

what kind of chances would I have of getting an interview if I don't get my MCAT score back until early october? I'm IS and I have a GPA ~3.6 cum / 3.6 bcpm. I'm not expecting anything great on the MCAT maybe 33 or so... Is october too late even if you're IS??

slim.. but u still have a chance - 33 is pretty good...

you're guaranteed to get an interview if you're in state and applying for the first time, regardless of when you submit your application. A 33 isn't just a little good, it's above their 30-31 average.

Is that true? I had always heard if you were in-state AND received a secondary, then you were guaranteed an interview. Did I misunderstand something? Does anyone know for sure?

That's true Sunny Side Up.

Does anyone know if you can schedule an interview BEFORE sending in the residency form?

If you are IS and you receive a secondary it is also an interview invite, you will receive the link to schedule your interview soon after you send in your secondary. I got mine about 6 days after I turned my secondary in. I scheduled my interview before I mailed my residency form.

Thanks Armywife !

I think if you are IS reapplicant it is different and interview is not automatic after getting the seconday. Any reapplicants invited for interview? Anyone contacted UNC regarding when they will start sending interview invitations?

Yea, that's true. If you are a reapplicant then it's different, secondary and interview invite are separate.

im pretty certain all IS who receive a secondary get an interview, but does every IS who applies receive a secondary (and thus an interview)? I cant find this data anywhere... and it seems like they should screen IS applications too cuz that would be a lot of interviews...

Im IS and got a secondary so im trying to figure out if i should be excited or not haha

They do screen IS applicants for secondaries. Idk how tough of a screen it is though.

If you are IS and receive a secondary IT IS THE INTERVIEW INVITE also. Not everyone that is IS receives the secondary, according to the MSAR last year they had 912 IS applicants and 470 of them were interviewed.

Which is pretty sweet. That means that you've pretty much got better than 1 in 4 odds of getting in if you get a secondary.

Since nobody has answered this yet, I'm assuming that the answer is "no" (at least for us reapplicants on SDN)...

But I'm just gonna reiterate the question. Are there any reapplicants out there that have heard from UNC after sending in their supplemental? I got a letter verifying my in-state status, but my secondary went in at the end of August and I haven't received an interview invite yet. 😕 I know its still early, but I'm curious if any reapplicants have gotten any love yet.

EDIT: also, just to clarify, YES, you are correct that for IS reapplicants, receiving a secondary does NOT automatically mean you get an interview. they review your reapplicant secondary, then decide whether to grant you an interview or not.

I was verified June 25th, got the received AMCAS application on july 16th. Since than, i haven't heard from UNC at all about filling out a secondary. I'm from west coast. 29O and 3.7 something gpa. They screen OOS or something? Anyone else same boat?

Anyone recieve an out-of-state interview invite yet?

Secondary Received by UNC: 8/19
Interview Invite: 9/23

UG GPA: 3.45
Grad GPA: 3.97
MCAT: 34

I'm in-state, but I'm a re-applicant. I interviewed here last year. Good luck to everyone still waiting! :luck:

OOS interview invite!
complete 8/27

i'm OOS and haven't received a secondary app. should i just assume that i'm not getting one at this point?

Congrats on the invite! I'm OOS and submitted the secondary so hopefully I'll get one soon! Mind sharing your stats?

sure... 33R and cGPA 3.88/sGPA 3/80

i sent an in-the-area email last week, but was told my "file was being reviewed and there's nothing that can be done until they are finished." who knows though, it could've helped

Wow, thanks! We have nearly identical stats. Hopefully I get some love.

how do you send in the secondary appliaction for UNC?
I filled it out already but have no idea how to send it in.
Where do you pay?
and how to send it in?
email?

sigh...🙁
somebody help me

You are suppose to attach it to an email and send it back to them. To pay there is a link in the secondary email, i think, to pay online. I know you pay the fee online just can't remember where the link was. Hope this helps a little bit. 🙂

thanks for the help.
how do you sign the paper?
i can't put my signiture on it from the computer.
Am i supposed to print it first and then signed and then scan it?

Good luck on interviews everyone !

Is there a way to check the application status? I'm OOS

I take it nobody has been accepted yet - when does the adcom start meeting? I interviewed in September and would give my left nut to go to UNC.

I feel you...this school is awesome...interviewed about a month ago

When did they say the earliest we could potentially hear something?

Anyone know when people started getting acceptances/rejections last year?

I seriously doubt it is a silent rejection. It hasn't even been a month yet, chillax! 🙂

I got the impression that more kids would be admitted in 2011 to UNC (obviously CH), so that there would be more students ready to do their away clinical rotations in Charlotte and Asheville in 2013. You know, learn the basics in the first two years, travel the 2nd two years. But that's just my take on it and what do I know.

Interview Invite today! Finally! I was worried, being that I'm a reapplicant and all reapplicants are pre-screened (both before secondary and interview).

Good luck everybody!

:luck:

This gives me [more] hope. :xf:

Got the invite to fill out secondary months ago as a re applicant, but after they reviewed my file, I didn't get an interview invite! I raised my MCAT 9 points into the 30s, volunteered more, shadowed more, and still no interview! FYI I was out of state last time I applied two years ago, in state this year. How do I get an interview to Vanderbilt and Baylor and not to my home state's school? Jeez, pretty bummed. . .

Hey y'all. And congrats to everyone who got an invite!

I've been away for a while (not away, more like myopically immersed in my quotidian existence), but I was wondering if people could help me out.

I'm an IS with par to sub-par stats, and my AMCAS. was "acknowledged." on 8/30. I still haven't heard anything back, so I'm starting to feel nervous.

Thoughts? Reassurances? Well-meaning but ultimately hollow platitudes and condolences about the experience of having a dream deferred?

Hey, everyone. I interviewed at UNC on September 21st and was just wondering if anyone knows when the adcomms are meeting and when the possible notification dates are.

Specifically, should I hope for a call today or are they waiting until the 18th or longer?

FWIW: GPA = 3.62, MCAT = 37

Thanks so much!

Interviewed September 28. IS 35Q 3.73 overall
Please post here if you get accepted. I'd love to go to UNC, and this wait is already killing me.

In previous years, the adcom met every two weeks and made acceptance calls on Monday or sometimes Tuesday nights (for the most part.)

I'm not sure when that will start and if this is an "on" week, but once we figure out the cycle, we can pretty much count on a slew of acceptances going out every other Monday.

It's killing me waiting! I love UNC! Hopefully someone will hear something today! Good luck everyone! :luck:

Good luck to you too Armywife :xf:according to last year's thread, it looks like only one sdn person heard on that first Monday, but we can only hope 😍
