From what I gathered reading the 2009-2010 thread, deferred means they have looked over your application, and have not offered you an interview at this time, but they may look over your app later and change their mind (this happened to like 2 people in the thread last year). People that are complete, I'm guessing their apps aren't done the screening process yet. A lot of people that were still just left at "complete" last year at this time were ultimately offered interviews, but I kinda think they didn't update today. I'd be really surprised if no one on SDN was deferred, or maybe just no one decided to post about it.

Basically, it seems like the difference between "Uh, we still don't know," and "Probably not."

Ok, that clears things up. Looking at last year's, it seems like when they finally did update, there was a barrage of comments from deferred SDNers. So I think we can say pretty conclusively that there's been no update.

The Committee on Admissions reviewed your application but has not invited you for an interview at this time. Additional reviews will occur and any change in your status will be communicated to you.
ALL ADMISSIONS DECISIONS WILL BE ANNOUNCED BY MARCH 15.

Though the word "deferred" is not in there...."has not invited you for an interview at this time" sounds like pretty much the same thing😉 Or worse.


Too bad...I was hoping for another Philly visit 🙂

Edit: I totally haven't kept up with this thread so if the above wording means something different, y'all can let me know

Same here...silent rejection?
 
It didn't occur to me that the message on the status page was a silent rejection but now that you mention it, it really does sound like that. Oh well, maybe they will look at it later and like what they see.
 
I got the same "reviewed but no interview" message. Thinking its as good as a rejection at this point

Anyone know if they accept letters of update?

That does kinda sound like a deferment email; i'm sorry coug 🙁 I was hoping to see you out here so we can continue our banters (from a while ago) in person!



From past trends (that I very vaguely remember) - yea there should be a flurry of activity sometime this week. But as mdEast said, just because you get deferred / stay as complete for a while it isn't a death sentence. I know at least 1 person who's status changed out of deferred (but the person might have sent a letter of interest?).

Yes. That was my status yesterday and during the night it changed to same thing as Coug's.
 
ugh, I don't even want to look. I've been complete for so long that I'm sure they've reviewed my application already and deferred it. Well, here goes....

EDIT: Checked the website...I'm still complete, not deferred yet. I was complete mid-August, if anyone's interested. I don't really know what to think right now other than they haven't made a decision on me yet....

I've been complete since 8/10 or so and I'm not deferred, so there is certainly hope.
 
Complete since early August...no deferment status as well.

Edit: yea I meant the status is the same "complete and under review"

I also checked yesterday and it still said complete. But when I checked this morning it said "Complete-Application Update" and said that my application had been reviewed but not selected for interview at this time. From what I've heard, once you're deferred the chances of getting an interview are very low, so looks like I'm done here. Has anyone else gotten this deferred status?

look at the previous posts on this page. there are several people who also got that message. 🙁 sorry guys, even if it isn't a straight rejection it never feels good to be "not selected for interview at this time."

Deferred here as well. Was complete around mid-August.

I wasn't expecting much. Penn was a long shot, but worth a try.
 
interview invite on friday evening! i guess i avoided the deferral cut by a hair

same, my status hasn't changed and it still says "in the screening process". better than deferring but I feel like it's going to come any day now, since penn is also a long shot for me...agghh.
 
secondary submitted 7/7, and complete 8/10, so I waited three months for an interview, so it might happen for the rest of you

Yeah I only have December 16th-17th, and I am worried that flying out to an interview during the middle of finals week is a bad idea. Guess the other dates filled up quickly.

Ha! Looks like Penn loves to make people sweat! So far they seem to be winning in the amount of time between submitting the application and letting people know about interviews/deferments/etc. At least we're in good company. Though it seems like the California schools come damn close...

Oh well, a place like Penn is more than worth the wait-and 7 1/2 hours of travelling each way. I'm super nervous and super pumped about interviewing here!

ps. is it just me or is there nothing like the med school application process to make you dread the approaching of the holiday season. Every time I hear a christmas song I say to myself "nooo...I'm not ready!"

I decided to be pre-med late in college, and I was worried I didn't have enough clinical experience. I've been more fortunate than I expected to be.

Awww, I do miss bantering with you!!🙂 It is very likely I will be in Philly again soon; I got into a Philly school so there will at least be a second look visit in my future, methinks😉

Yes. If you'd rather not, though, you can walk out of 30th St Station, cross the street, and walk down into the trolley station. You can take the trolley from 30th St Station to 37th and Spruce, which is right in the middle of campus for $2. This might be easier if you have luggage.
