WOW!!!! I just checked the status page guys.... yeah!!!!!!!!!!

Heh. Even though I didn't believe you, it still gave me a very unnecessary adrenaline burst.

Am I the only one who checks the status page every now and then *hoping* that there is some kind of glitch and decisions are accidentally released for a brief period of time?...and that I will just happen to stumble upon it before they recognize this glitch, and revert back to "interview completed"...

I live a rich fantasy life.

Haha, nope, definitely not

You're absolutely NOT the only one!

Sorry for the double post

So I guess I can assume all decisions have been made already and now they're just making us wait to build up suspense.

Expecting the worst, hoping for the best.

HakeeMD, I don't think that is true because I sent in something to Penn yesterday as an addition to my letter of interest which I had sent in February. I called the admissions office to see if it actually would be placed into my file and would be reviewed before admissions decisions were made or if it would only be reviewed if I was on waitlist tier 1. I was told that this addition would be seen and would be involved in their decision making, implying that decisions probably will not be finalized until after the weekend.

I have a hard time believing that. They promised to have all decisions released BY the 15th and I seriously doubt they will review ALL files on Monday the 14th to make the final decisions.

Think about it, do you believe an update this late is going to be make a difference ??

Thank you for the input. However, Sentinel posted on February 4th that Penn had already started their final review. So it seems unlikely something sent into admissions this late would have any real impact, especially if they've already eliminated/Tier 2 waitlisted you in their deliberations.

But really who knows for sure.

I agree completely. I bet they still have time to turn a tier 2 waitlist into an acceptance if an update details how one identified a $10 cure for HIV from a laboratory one built in one's dorm room, but other than that I would have to guess they are done. It probably doesn't need to be Nobel-worthy, but it would have to be something very big. I can't really see beginning interviews when they did, waiting until March 15th to release their final decisions, and still having decisions pending on March 11th.

If I'm essentially rejected already (tier 2 waitlist), then the addition means nothing. However, if I am currently on tier 1 waitlist, the publication update might be the difference between tier 1 waitlist and acceptance. At least I hope so 😀!

Is it bad if you don't send any updates or letters of intent? I keep reading about people sending things whether early or late in the process and I'm starting to feel like maybe it's something I shouldve done. I agree with everyone about it being to late for an update to impact a decision, but in the end do these updates really make a difference or do adcom mainly rely on your AMCAS and supplemental application?

I don't think they can hurt you, but it doesn't seem likely that letters of interest saying you love the school, etc are going to make a big difference. If they want to reject you, they will. Even if you LOVE Penn. Letters of intent (saying you will matriculate 100% if accepted) are stronger, but still not a huge deal I don't think. Places like Penn are so sought after by so many applicants, they are well aware that they have the pick of the litter. Don't sweat it if you haven't confessed your love since interviewing. If they want you, they'll take you 🙂

Thanks for that. It calmed my nerves for this Tuesday

If you get accepted/waitlisted, how long do you have to respond? I'm going away for the week (I'm hoping it'll help distract me from the impending doom:scared:...or not??:xf:). Do you need to mail them a letter/form back asap or can you email your response? Do they give you a week at least? Any insight on the issue would be greatly appreciated. 🙂 Thanks guys!

Praying for good news for everyone!!!

If you get accepted, just call the office and tell them your situation. Or email them. When I was accepted to Dartmouth, I had to mail them back within a week, but the envelope was sent to my parents house. I called their admissions office and they just gave me an extension. I'm sure they'd be reasonable. My sister's case was even crazier. She applied a few years ago while she was working in Chad, Africa. Schools were very flexible around her circumstances too.

It's almost that time of the year guys - good luck!

The Status Page is "down for software maintenance", which probably means they are loading up the decisions!! Good luck everyone! :luck:

😱

I wonder if the decisions will be available once the site returns from maintenance, or if there is a time-based release on them so we only find out tomorrow...

Waitlist Tier 1. Saw it coming.

Congrats to everyone accepted! 🙂

In case anyone has the numbers: does anyone know how many 1st tier/accepted off of 1st tier?

From the waitlist FAQ in the portal:

How many people will be accepted from the waitlist?

The number varies from year to year, depending on the number of people who withdraw from the initial acceptance group. We are not able to predict a specific number at this time. Best guess: 12 to 50.

Is everyone who is on tier 1 waitlist invited to the Second Look weekend?

Yay accepted - finally loaded up the page!! BTW, you still get the same email about checking the admissions decision page if you're accepted (rather than a direct email).

Accepted!

Clicking the "click here to accept your place in the class" link just gives me a browser error message though... I'm guessing there is a web server in Philadelphia smoking and otherwise begging for mercy at the moment.

Accepted!

Page wouldn't load for the longest time...I thought I was going to die of a heart attack waiting....but now I'm thrilled!

FYI 2nd Look Weekend (Penn Preview) is April 28-30. Ugggh, all these schools have their weekends on the same weekend it seems like. Not sure how to choose which ones to go to - may try to hit just the first day.

I am definitely going to 2nd Look Weekend! I am glad there is no conflict with the other school I have been seriously considering so far!! Good luck everyone!! Wow, I still can not believe this one..!

Woo! Accepted. 🙂

The page wouldn't load for me for like half an hour. Serious torture.

Hey everyone- I was waitlisted, Tier 1. Congrats to all those who were accepted! Now for a bit of a long post (sorry that it's so long!):

After looking at last year's thread, it seems like there was a lot of uncertainty about the tiered waitlists. It looks that Tier 1 can be broken down into at least two groups: those who are invited to Penn Preview (I'm unclear as to whether this invitation is included in the admissions decision or not) and those who aren't. If you got the invitation to attend Penn Preview and you actually go, there's an almost foolproof chance that you'll get accepted eventually. For those who are on the 'regular' Tier 1, I gather that the "400" number given on the waitlist Q&A is the approximate number of those on the Tier 1 waitlist alone, but this could be wrong (and I hope it is given that even 50 out of 400 is a very low percentage, not to mention 12/400).

Last year, there was a lot of debate about what was said in the letters of those who were waitlisted. Some people may have been invited to second look in that letter (again, unclear) and some people might have been told that they were "very highly regarded." Because I hate uncertainty and love Penn and want to know whether I should realistically keep dreaming, I'd like to post the wording of my letter. If anyone else on Tier 1 got something different, please copy and paste your letter's wording. The rest of us would surely appreciate it. 🙂

My letter:
."The Committee on Admissions has completed its review of your application for admission. We enjoyed meeting you during our interview program and found you to be a highly qualified applicant..

."The limitation on the number of places available in the class does not allow us to offer you an acceptance at this time. However, because the Committee thought highly of your qualifications we are placing your name on a waitlist for admission. Decisions on acceptances from the waitlist may be made at any time, but generally take place no earlier than April 15 and no later than August 8. While there is no individual rank on the waitlist, the Committee has divided the waitlist into two tiers..

."You are on the first tier waitlist, along with other very competitive applicants. We encourage you to visit the waitlist website at http://www.med.upenn.edu/apps/my/pennmed_application where there is additional information for waitlist candidates (i.e. Waitlist Questions and Answers, information about Penn and Philadelphia). Please know that there is no way to estimate your chances for admission from the waitlist..

."We hope that you will confirm your interest in Penn by completing the Waitlist Response Form on the web so that we may continue to consider your application for admission. If you know that you are committed to attending another medical school and do not wish us to consider your application further, please withdraw your application on the web. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (215-898-8001).".

I believe mine had the same wording.

I believe mine had the same wording.

I'm on tier 1 waitlist, but have been invited to Penn Preview. My status page says "Waitlist Tier 1" big at the top. Then this below:

"The Committee on Admissions has a very strong interest in your application, and you are one of the few candidates on the waitlist who is invited to visit during Penn Preview. Please click on the "Visit" tab above for more details. This is an exciting time and you have many decisions to make. We hope you remain interested in Penn."

Hope this helps. Anyone know how many waitlisters get the invite?

oh nvm, mine is just: "The Committee on Admissions has a continuing interest in your application and we hope you remain interested in Penn"

I got this invite too. I'm really praying to get in here I would definitely go. Its so hard to say yes to go to the second look though- Seeing how the majority of people there are already accepted and there is a good possibility you will not be =(.
