From my experience last year, we only were notified when the waitlist officially began in May or so. I did interview in Feb. last year though, so it may be different since you interviewed earlier. Good luck to everyone. I can actually say that and completely mean it now.

Fortunately I have heard of people getting accepted off this quasi-waitlist before the actual waitlist begins. I'm sure it's pretty rare though.

I did hear about that last year. I never heard a number of people that got called off before waitlist was formed.

I interviewed in february....still have not gotten an interview this year but expect one in february.

Did you receive a communication like that recently?

If you browse through last year's version of this thread, I think you'll find it informative regarding your question 🙂

Right, but I didn't think posting it in a new application year would be an issue. Thought I might get some more feedback. I can't believe there are not more people that have experience with the bold print letters.

Just got my interview date in e-mail today! January 18th, may have to move it but at least I got it

Thanks guys. Just wanted to see if I needed to get them to resend a letter.

Thanks for the congrats and all but, as it is, I have been interviewed so many times I am thinking of inviting Nelson over for holiday stuff😱

Hi everyone! I'm new to the forum, great resource.

I got an acceptance from UT in the mail yesterday!! I interviewed Dec. 6 and then again Jan. 4. Loved the school and the people there so I really feel like I would be happy here.

Congrats to all those accepted! MedAKAl Mystery, I interviewed on Dec. 6 also. May I ask why did you have to interview again? I did not know that schools did that.

Thanks! I remember Mr. Strother saying on interview day that sometimes they might request an additional interview if one of your interviewers felt they didn't do a good job or if they needed more information, etc. In my case, the committee wanted to know more about a couple of not-great undergrad grades. I guess my interviewers didn't touch on that much. But this is the only school I've heard of doing that.

i know there weren't any interviews monday because of the holiday but the committee didn't meet today because of inclement weather. their next meeting will be next fri..... have a great weekend all.

Got my letter in the mail yesterday. I am on hold/no final decision has been made so it looks like I'm going to have to wait it out. I am OOS though so I was not surprised. Anybody else get any news lately?

Thanks for the update!

It's not an acceptance, but still better than the alternative...

Btw, congratulations to everyone who's been accepted!
I'm still hoping for an interview :xf:

I received my interview invite tonight...set for February 22nd! I'm meeting with Phillips and Suttle; any advice.

Only a couple of more steps to go, thank goodness. 😀:xf:

I had Dr. Suttle for my interview, and it didn't go near as good as my first interview. Be aware that he is very dry, and didn't have a noticeable sense of humor. He asked me pretty tough questions, a couple of which I felt were a little unfair. PM me if you want to know what he asked.

Good luck!

I just got my interview email tonight! Feb 10th in Knoxville with Dr. Pearman and Feb 23 in Memphis with Dr. Suttle. I had given up hope on getting an interview. What does this mean for my chances of getting in? I am a female, my father is an alumni, MCAT 26, GPA 3.8, research experience, volunteer experience, surgery experience and a lifetime of being around medicine. Give me your take on my situation. Also, I am getting married in the spring...someone told me to not mention this during the interview because it will look bad because being married would be a "distraction".

I would not say that they would consider marriage a distraction. I think most would think that married people are more regimented than those who are not married, but maybe I am just biased. As far as your chances, I would say you have a shot. I have known people that got in with that MCAT, but it wasn't on their first try. Best of luck.

Well, It's nothing official....But I e-mailed Nelson earlier in the week to ask about my status, and he said they will be inviting me for an interview. He just didn't have an exact date, yet.

So my wife (an M3) says that Owen Phillips is a girl and the dean of students, she is an obgyn. She is nice but a little...eccentric. Dont know Suttle.

P head is correct, my wife had lower scores than you and got in, not on her first try...also she is a straight A student in medschool, so no problem. Also, BEING married is usually considered a strength. GETTING married may be considered a distraction. It would be better that you were getting married in the summer or at least during a time when there was no school, this way their argument for distraction would just be lame.

Has anyone who has gotten an interview in the past few weeks gotten an acceptance letter yet?

No, I'm still waiting. Interviewed week of Jan 17. I know they didn't meet that Friday due to bad weather. I'm guessing they'll let us know this week. Does anyone know if we'll get an email letting us know they mailed our decision?

I wouldn't count on it, I didn't get an email. Diane told us she would send an email, but supposedly she got caught and won't be sending them anymore (she isn't supposed to email us about it).

HA - "Got caught sending emails". Can't help but wonder what's wrong with telling someone that you have mailed them something. We know it's coming, we'd just like a better idea of when so we won't be rushing home to check the mailbox for 8 straight days!!

Thank you Diane! Sorry you got in trouble

Apparently its against UT policy to send any unofficial admissions emails. Seems silly, though.

Thanks for all of the advice. I received an email that my first interviewer was changed to Syamal K. Bhattacharya...anyone have experience with him?

Holy moly, he was mine and he is HARD! I am not trying to scare you but...he is hard. He likes to drill you with questions. He likes to hear definitive answers. Do NOT say things like "I think" or "I might" he wants decisive answers. Also he will ask you stuff like what city you were born in, what was your SAT/ACT. And he wants real numbers not round numbers. Also, he will ask you stuff like what was the most Altruistic thing you have done until now...know what that is and how to DEFINE altruism. He was the most dificult interview I have ever had. He is very friendly though. The fire alarm went off during my interview and he said "I'm just going to ignore that." We did have to evacuate! Anyway, keep your wits about you and you will do just fine.

Still no email/letter in Nashville...interviewed the week of January 17th.

Any other followers of this thread deciding between UTHSC and Quillen??

Wow, now I really cannot wait to interview. Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully, I won't get flustered. 😱

Has anyone who was in the week of Jan 17th interviews gotten their decision letter yet? They said the letters would be mailed no later than Feb 4, but I still haven't gotten mine. I live in Nashville, so I was expecting to get the decision on Feb 5th, or Feb 7th at the latest

I live in memphis and I have not received anything. I interviewed in December. The committee did not meet the week of the 17th so they may be a little behind. Hopefully, we'll all hear something soon.

I interviewed the week of 24 Jan and received my decision letter this week if that helps any. I remember someone saying that at least one of your interviewers had to be present at the committee meeting for you to be placed on the agenda.

If you haven't received anything yet then I would guess that it means that you haven't been discussed. Even if no decision is made at the meeting, you should receive a letter informing you of that (if my memory serves me correctly 🙂).

Did you get accepted or waitlisted??

Am I wrong to assume that anyone who is being interviewed now until the end of interview season will most likely be waitlisted?

The correct answer would be yes, the majority will 'most likely be waitlisted'. They still will have some acceptances to give out, but the majority of people interviewed in the past few weeks are getting on hold/no decision. They seem to be in the process of creating a list to make a waitlist from.

But that means there is still hope

I know! They're polar opposites, but both are GREAT schools.

I was really surprised by the tuition difference personally. Even though I much prefer the Quillen atmosphere, it'd be rough taking the financial hit when there's a much cheaper option. We'll see after FinAid though...
