yeah any hotels around the area will be fine. I personally stayed at the Hilton which is on the campus itself.

As for hearing back, I havent heard anything yet...

My money's on Thursday.

Finding out Thursday would be awesome... Do they typically just send an email or call you?

Interviewing next Monday. What hotels did you guys stay in? And are there cabs/other form of public transportation to get to the interview?

So I just got an email that I got accepted to the University of Toledo. Looks like I'm going to be a doctor.... 😀

Congratulations! I interviewed on the 11th. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Congrats too all who got acceptances! For those who have been through the interview process, how many interviews did you have/how long did they last? I was a little confused when I got the agenda for the day because there were two slots for interviews, one was an hour long (before lunch), and one was 1.75 hours long (after lunch). 2.75 hours for interview seems a little excessive to me... Thoughts?

wait, were we supposed to receive an itinerary before the interview? I interview next week and have received nothing. Also, what time did the interview end, for those that have had it? Thanks for your help, and congratulations!! 🙂

My interviews were 1 hour and 1:10. Not necessarily excessive, although I was told interviews would be 20-45 minutes. Either we took too long to answer the questions or they WANTED to talk with us that long. I enjoyed both of my interviews. Really nice people. It's either really good or...

You should have received one in your letter. But you get one there too, with more information. No worries.

I believe I was done around 3:30.

I interviewed on monday.... anybody from the previous weeks interviews hear any good news?

Only one person, that I know of, has a membership at SDN and interviewed on the 4th. They were accepted via email yesterday around 6 PM ET.

So I interviewed on the 4th and I really enjoyed my interviews.

My first interview was an hour long but it was very conversational. He had looked through my application and asked things from it that he thought was interesting. He also asked me a question about the current healthcare and an ethical question, but never did I feel tense or uncomfortable.

My second interview was after lunch at 2:45, which sucked because almost everyone else had their interview at 1:45, so I was stuck just sitting around at their barnes & noble. In retrospect, I should have asked to sit in on a class, but there were exams going on when I was there. Anyways, the interview itself wasn't bad. It was a lot more interesting and tougher than the first one. My interviewer asked me two philosophical questions which I sort of struggled with but we still had a good debate. Although I didn't understand why he would ask those questions at first, his reasoning for asking them was stellar. Other than those two difficult questions, he asked me a few questions about my application and we were done. The second interview lasted a little more than an hour.

Other than that, I have to say that as my first interview school, I was very impressed by the atmosphere and the nature of the interviews.

Your experience sounds identical to mine, except my more challenging interview was first! Reading that you had two one hour long interviews puts me at a little more ease. Congrats to you!

What are your stats, if you don't mind me asking?

All my stats should be on the MDapplicants thing under my profile name. I'm pretty sure it's up to date.

I am looking for some advice. I had a lower MCAT, but addressed it thoroughly in my personal statement. Should I restate it here, reference the PS, or what?

Thanks

I wouldn't say this is the best thread for that type of advice. Check out the thread, "What are my chances?" You should get all the help you need there.

Forgot to mention this in my last post.... anyone who has an interview coming up should try to attend the meet and greet the day before with the current medical students. I went and was very, very glad I did. It didn't seem like they were there to sell the school, while they did obv.iously love the school, they didn't seem to candy coat anything. It was super informal for anyone going. The med students at mine were all MSII and wore jeans and hoodies. You just sit around and talk until all of everyone's questions have been answered. It was great!!!!

To those who interviewed/have interviews scheduled!

I didn't receive the packet I was supposed to get before my interview (tomorrow), and therefore do not have an address to the location of the interview. Does anyone have the address of the location where I am supposed to meet tomorrow morning?? Thank you SO much!

Hey I interviewed there today too! Hope we both hear good news next month! 🙂

How long does it take UT to get back to you? I interviewed 10/15. Anyone get any acceptances yet?!

Hey Guys,

I am applying to Toledo and wanted to know if anyone knew when orientation is typically held. Trying to plan a trip this summer. (i.e. What were last years dates or if you know what will be for this year.)

(Also, I have searched online and it is suprisingly hard to find orientation dates.)

Thanks, James

Interviewing next Monday. What hotels did you guys stay in? And are there cabs/other form of public transportation to get to the interview?

Although this may be irrelevant for you at this point, for others, I recommend the Hilton - I stayed there when I interviewed last year, I think it was somewhere in the 90-100 dollar range, but it's definitely the most convenient option - it's like a 2 minute drive to the library/10 minute walk. It's also got a convenient and affordable restaurant on site. The hotel might offer a shuttle to the library, I'm not sure, you'd have to check with them. I don't know what other hotel options they list on the sheets that you're provided with are, but I wouldn't rely too much on Toledo's public transportation system. Driving longer distances to get from the hotel to the interview (particularly if you're using Rt. 2 aka Airport Hwy) can be frustrating because of the large number of stoplights. Also, be aware if you're driving to your interview that almost every light in Toledo and the surrounding suburbs has a red-light camera.

Accepted!

Congratulations

I think they say anywhere in the 2-4 week range. In the past, you usually got an e-mail (+ letter) if you were accepted, and I think rejection or wait-list came via snail mail. With the new online application system, however, i'm not sure how they render application decisions.

If you think you could do it any justice - i.e. add something that you haven't already touched on in your PS then why not.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed your experience. I think everyone that gets interviewed gets asked a couple of ethical questions/interview (so be sure to be informed on some general ethical issues and know the basics) but it sounds like you interviewed with someone who was more interest in ethics. FYI, the university of Washington has a very good website with the basics of many ethical issues - probably a little overkill for interviewing but a good tool nonetheless.

I was sent a short email and notification that I would be receiving a package in the mail. I was asked several ethical questions as well. I don't think that's a bad thing. Both of my interviewers were an hour long.

As you probably know, most schools will ask ethical questions in the interview - you can usually get a feel for how much they'll ask by looking at the SDN interview feedback section. I don't remember how long the interviews are supposed to be, but mine were both around an hour also.

Absolutely. For those who have yet to interview, definitely check out the Interview Feedback section for UT:

Every single question I was asked can be found there. I would pay particular attention to questions that strike you as uncommon, such as, "What is integrity?" I was asked this during my interview, but had prepared for it. The worst scenario is poor performance due to inadequate preparation. Just don't go overboard in your prep; don't forget to be yourself. Everybody knows what integrity is, but the key is not getting lost in your response. Good luck everyone!

hey guys ,what days when have interviews usually been held for Toledo? Example on a Monday, Wed, or Friday, etc. Thanks!

I interviewed 10/18. I called the office a week ago and they said my file was to be reviewed yesterday, 11/9. I haven't heard back yet, anyone know when they can give up hopes for an email?

I had to wait 22 days before I was accepted. You shouldn't be worried.

Lalala sitting at complete for about 6ish weeks now. When should I start getting worried about not hearing about an invite to interview?

IS 3.15sci/3.1 (3.95 grad sci) and 37S -- good, shaky, or bad? I was really hoping UT would be an automatic interview O__O Damn my pre-med advisors for getting me so hype about my chances everywhere this cycle grrrrrrr.....

12 weeks complete and no decision either. When I emailed them about my status I was told that I am still "under review." Looks like you may have a long wait ahead of you, buddy.

To be honest, this is my second time through, and I'm muuuch more competitive than the first time (statistically and LOR+EC). The first time through...try 7 months complete before a reject letter. If I hit Winter Break without notice, I might have to start stalking the office....:meanie:

Complete 12 weeks, no word. Patience, Iago, patience.

As with any school, it can be a slow process - especially since UTCOM seems to interview well into the year - for example last year I think they interviewed into mid-April. I also recall that last year, around December, they sent out an e-mail stating that a 1 page update to the application would be accepted (i.e. grades, new ECs, new research, or perhaps a letter of interest) so perhaps they'll do something similar this year.

Random unexpected interview invite today. Complete months ago.

I haven't looked through this thread but anyone know if we HAVE to call for a date or they send us one in the mail?

In the past you could do either. I do recall it taking at least several days before I got the actual letter concerning the invite though - so it's probably advantageous to you to call.

Thanks! Do you or does anyone know how Toledo stands in terms of rankings (they have no rank on US NEWS)? I only ask because I am interested in research so NIH funding does play a role, and rankings do have some use in comparing such things (of course they are not the end all be all).

Thanks in advance.

Quick Question: Where do med students usually live while attending Toledo?

For anyone that has interviewed in the past, I am interviewing on Monday and am really interested in the meet and greet coffee thing the night before, but am curious as to what people wear to that? Do the interviewees typically dress up (like suit, or maybe just a button up for guys at least?) or is it a pretty casual thing? Thanks!

Also, for anyone who is asking, I was invited to interview through e-mail and then called in to schedule my interview the next morning (they sent the e-mail out really late the day before so I couldn't call in that day) and got an e-mail about an hour later confirming so I didn't have to wait on a letter or anything to confirm a date.

And in addition to this question (bump), can we obtain in-state tuition after the first year?

And in addition to this question (bump), can we obtain in-state tuition after the first year?

You can obtain in-state tuition after 1 year. You can obtain it earlier if you're married and your spouse gets a job in Ohio. There are some basic requirements you need to meet including stuff like
-getting an Ohio driver's license
-registering to vote in Ohio
-Borrow lots of money in loans (no problem there)
-Live in Ohio for 12 months

There might be some other requirements - but it's really NOT that big of a hassle. Ohio is one of the VERY FEW states where you can obtain in-state tuition after 1 year.

I highly recommend the coffee talk the night before - I did it when I interviewed and I thought it was really good. There are usually a few med students and usually only a couple of interviewees come - so you'll have a chance to get any of the questions you want answered. As for the environment it's totally casual - I think I may have wore khakis and a sweater or something and I think the med students were dressed similarly or maybe even more casually (i.e. jeans)

Quick Question: Where do med students usually live while attending Toledo?

One of the BIG advantages of Toledo is that the cost of living is CHEAP. Most medical students don't live in Toledo proper because to be completely honest, some of the apartments aren't the nicest and some of the areas have a reputation for being less safe (though I feel safe on the campus itself). A good 1BR apartment outside of Toledo proper (600-700 sq ft) will probably cost you between $600-$700/mo depending on where you live. You can get a 2BR apartment (1000 sq ft, 2 bath) for $750-$850. The cost, however, is significantly lower if you live in Toledo. As for where people live - most medical students live at one of the following locations:

Fox Chase Apartments, located in Holland, OH - about 10-15 mins from school. Older (built in the late 80s) but well kept, safe, competetively priced. This is where I live - If any of you look this apartment complex up and decide you're interested - send me a message/PM - I can give you more information and split the referral bonus with you if you decide to move here!

Quail Hollow at the Lakes also in Holland, OH - actually it's about 2 minutes from Fox Chase. It's similar in many ways to Fox Chase.

Chelsea Place - this is a newer complex (built in the last 5-10 years), much more expensive ($1000+ for 2BR), a little farther (15-20 mins), but has some nice features

If anyone has any questions about any of these complexes, but especially Fox Chase (since I live here and know the most about it) send me a message - I spent a lot of time researching apartments last year so I know at least a little bit about most of them.

Toledo, along with a large number of other schools, is not ranked by US News - US News only ranks a certain top number of schools (I'm not exactly sure how many). I do think we're really going in the right direction though - the Dean here, Dr. Jeff Gold is very student centered and quite accomplished/networked physician. I'm not personally interested in research but I do know there is a fairly good amount of research going on here (albeit, it's not as research centered as Case Western, for example) - they have PhD programs and labs working in a full array of biological science + a fair number of the 1st year med students spend the summer between their 1st/2nd year doing research here. I'm not familiar with the amount of NIH funding that we receive for research, but I think the data is available at http://report.nih.gov/ (funded organizations --> University of Toledo Health Science Campus = Med school)

Waitlisted... Boo. So it appears they are sending out rejections/waitlists via snail mail only. I'm very disappointed at this because one of my interviewers told me that I was a stellar applicant for Toledo, on paper. I think he didn't like my answers to all of those cheating/integrity questions.

Anyone know how much movement there is off the waitlist?

It's always tough to predict waitlist movement - just like every other school there is a lot of year to year variance. You might get some idea by checking last year's thread for Toledo. I do know that they prioritize the waitlist - but you probably won't find out where you stand on the waitlist until May/June. Best of luck with the rest of the application cycle.
