i was interviewed 11/18 and accepted 12/14. there were 10 or so other interviewees, overall a pretty laid back group and great interview experience. i thought i remember reading the matriculation vs interviewed stats, but i can't seem to find that info anywhere. they definitely did not disclose those stats at the interview day.

anyway, best of luck! if you have anymore questions just ask.

Did your status on Toledo's website change from "complete awaiting decision" after you got your invite? And has anyone gotten a snail mail invite (I got the impression that there were snail and email invites)? Or am I wrong?

email first followed by snail mail a few days later. i didn't wait for the snail mail to call and schedule my interview date, though.

Interview invite 1/7, scheduled for 3/21 (they told me I would get snail mail as well)...way later than I had wanted to interview, especially considering I am holding an acceptance to a ranked school. Anyone have any idea of what kind of aid/scholarships UTCOM gives?

UTCOM awards quite a few scholarship to BOTH incoming AND returning students. The most comprehensive list that I can find is here:

http://www.utoledo.edu/med/md/scholarships.html

I believe but all but one of these, namely the Ryerson scholarship which admitted students can apply for in the late spring/early summer, is handed out by the scholarship committee.

Also, as an Ohio school, if you're an out of state student, you can receive in-state tuition after 1 academic year.

I think each interview session is anywhere from ~ 10-15 students. When I interviewed, I believe there were 11 or 12 of us. I'm not sure about the # of students interviewed/matriculants, but if you can find a copy of the MSAR the #s should be there. Keep in mind that as a general rule of thumb medical schools give acceptance offers for ~ 2x the spots available.

Interview 11/29, ACCEPTED 1/12!

Not sure if I'll hold onto this acceptance or not, I figure I should for now but I'm also in at OSU and I think I'd prefer to go there.

Congrats. I interviewed on December 2nd and got accepted 1/12 🙂
I also have an acceptance at university of louisville and i'm trying to figure out which one to choose. I would prefer OSU but haven't heard anything back from them yet 🙁

Congrats to you too! Best of luck with OSU too, are you waitlisted or waiting to hear about an interview?

I'm still waiting for an interview. Haven't heard a peep out of them. My hopes are quickly dwindling.

yeah, that was me. congrats on the acceptance! does it look like you will end up in toledo?

Anyone know how many interview spots are left / how far out they're scheduling them?

Toledo why don't you love meeee

Hey everyone, I know this sounds like a silly question, but when you log in to the application status portal, does it say "Complete" for application status for all of you? Mine still says "Incomplete."

I am utterly frustrated with UToledo so far. I sent in my secondary back in the beginning of August. When I called in October about the status of my application, they found out they had my file mixed up with another applicant with the same name who had not yet completed the secondary. I called again in November, due to still not being considered complete, and they said I was but I have heard nothing yet and my status on the website still said "Incomplete."

Anyone else have similar issues?

mine still says complete awaiting decision, even though i have been accepted. i would suspect that the online status page does not get updated too frequently, if at all. if you called and someone told you that you were indeed complete i would believe they had updated your files on their end. you could always follow up by emailing or calling sandy again.

best of luck!!!

I got an email and called to schedule my interview about a week ago...first available date was 3/17. ugh.

This may seem like a late date but I definitely have several classmates who interviewed this late in the season and were obviously accepted. If you live within a reasonable driving distance you might also call and ask to see if you can be put on a list to be contacted in the case that someone cancels their interview (I'm not even sure if the admissions office maintains such a list - but it is routinely done at other schools, so it's worth a shot).

Sounds like something is not quite right, I'd definitely call the office (probably closed today, we don't have class) and hopefully they can resolve it.

Last year the interviews stretched all the way through the middle of April. If you've made any significant changes in your application over the past few months you might try sending an update letter.

Congratulations to all of those accepted thus far, hopefully we'll see you in the fall.

I just got my first interview offer!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
Im so excited!!!!!

Any one know what to expect?
Iv read that generally there will be 10-12 people,
but what kind of questions do they ask, and how long does it last for?
Thanks!

Congratulations!

My interviews were quite conversational - it was quite apparent from the start that my interviewers simply wanted to get to know me a little better and understand my reasoning for going into medicine and wanting to come to UTCOM. I never really got pressed on anything or asked really awful ethical questions - though you should expect to get some questions on medical ethics. I forget how long they're supposed to last, but I think both of mine were somewhere in the ballpark of 30-45 minutes. You'll typically be interviewed by 2 faculty members. Good luck!

congrats! one of mine was about 20 minutes and the other was 45 minutes. in addition to preparing for ethical questions also, give some thought towards the future of medicine. both of my interviewers asked questions about my feelings regarding future changes in healthcare.

Just got home and checked my email and I have an interview invite...so excited! Complete 12/30 and I'm OOS (but from MI). Congrats IRpremed!

Both of my interviews were a little over an hour.

Called and scheduled. Earliest available date was 3/31, but I had them put me on a list in case an earlier spot came up.

Congratulations! I had one interview that lasted for an hour, where I was kind of grilled on a few things. I didn't think it was too bad, but I had heard bad things about interviewing with that person. I had to say I didn't know for several answers with this person, but ended up getting in so it couldn't have been too bad! My other interview was 45 minutes, and very friendly and conversational. Both interviewers seemed like they did want to impress me with the school. I heard that there was one other interviewer that is also pretty intense, but that's it. So worst case scenario you might have one slightly higher stress interview, I'm thinking they wouldn't give you both of them. I had a pretty good number of ethical questions, so definitely know where you stand on that, and I would also recommend looking at the health care system, so basic interview prep. Just stay confident in yourself and your answers, without discounting feedback that the interviewer gives you. Good luck!

Hey,

I was accepted today. All the years of work, and to finally know that I have a place in the medical field is overwhelming but thrilling. So excited about the school too. I interviewed the Monday before Thanksgiving FYI.

Hope others get good news too!

Congratulations. If you have any questions about UTCOM feel free to post them on here or send me a message, I'll do my best to answer them for you.

I got my first interview!!! I will be interviewing on 3/31st. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I hope all goes well. I am OOS from GA. I don't know how much that will factor in. Yikes.

I interviewed on 12/13 and haven't heard anything yet... Anybody from my interview group with news (good or bad)?

I was there on 12/13 and haven't heard anything yet. Judging by what they told us during the day and what I've seen on here, tomorrow might be the day.

What are the chances of getting off the alternate list?

I have no idea. Like every school will tell you - it varies (sometimes significantly) from year to year. Some people will suggest looking @ last year's SDN thread to gauge the waitlist movement, but this is also probably a poor indicator. In the past, I believe they've contacted applicants on the wait-list in June-ish and have informed them of where they stand on the list.

Your chances are dependent on many factors, so it is really hard to say.

I can't say too much because it varies each year. But I do know (via a reliable source) that there will not likely be any major movement until after the spring semester is over in May.

My theory/prediction based on what I know and observation is that the bulk of the movement will happen between late May and early July. I know that is a long time to wait, but UTCOM seems to fill their slots slowly.

I think that they also offer some sort of Master's program for those that don't get in with the potential for admission the following year. I don't know much about it or how it works.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us then! :xf:

I saw that UTCOM has not accepted anyone from Georgia into their c/o 2014. What are the likelihood of UTCOM accepting OOS students???

For the class of 2013 (the most recent data I have available from the MSAR), they matriculated 60 students from OOS for a class of 175, meaning that approximately 35% were out of state. Keep in mind that this is the number that matriculated, and the actual number of acceptances sent to out of state students must have been higher.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for both of us then! :xf:

Thanks! I'll keep mine crossed as well-maybe it'll work better if we both do it?

I was invited to interview here on the 18th, but still didn't receive the package with all the interview info in the mail....
anyone know how long it takes to get that package?
I live in michigan btw
Thanks!!

I'm in the same boat (live in MI too), and I called on 1/19 to schedule and confirm my interview and I still haven't received the letter I was supposed to get via snail mail. Looks like I'll be calling again tomorrow.

The 18th is still quite a bit away and you should receive the info. It took me over a week to receive mine after I scheduled the interview. If the time gets closer to the interview the admissions office can email you the documents.
