Relatively quiet on the Utah front . . .

Any recent acceptances off the wait-list from IS or OOS applicants or those individuals with multiple acceptances thinking of foregoing the glorious city-of-salt?

my friend who was waitlisted, in state, got an acceptance call last Wednesday, so I'm happy for her but I still want an acceptance too :xf:

Hi!

I haven't been on the threads recently, but I will be attending Utah! I know that they only give out background checks to students who have been accepted -not like other schools who request the same from alternates. So if you got one, I think some very good news will be coming your way! good luck! :luck: Also, I don't think it's the norm to get a phone call, just a letter so don't fret if no one calls.

Hmm, that is interesting. I think that it is a positive thing then! Perhaps after the May 15th cutoff there will be more movement for OOSers.

ACCEPTED off the wait list!!!! :soexcited: Just got the email today! In State.
What a wonderful day! :luck: to everyone else. The wait list does move (and it's not even May 15th yet)!

CONGRATS!!

Out of curiosity: Was the email just directly sent to your inbox, or was it through a status update on the U website? Seems they can notify you by physical mail, email, status updates, or direct phone calls from the previous posts. Devious admissions committee. 🙂

I actually found out via email sent to my inbox (although they said they sent me a physical letter, which I have yet to receive). When I did log on to the U website it showed that I had been accepted.

I was near the school when I got the acceptance so I stuck around and talked to some of the students about some of the issues that have been discussed in this forum. It seems like a lot of second years aren't too happy with the fact that they are the "trial" class with the new curriculum. But they did seem happy with the direction that it's heading. Most of them said that the curriculum completely changed from their year to the next (due to their recommendations and feedback) and all of the current first years that I spoke with seemed to love the new curriculum, overall. Even they (the first years) are leaving feedback which will improve our class even further.

With that said, it seemed as though many of the first years had their feathers ruffled at the last unit that they just got through. They said that there was a vast amount of data provided in the case studies and (depending on their preceptor) they didn't get concrete answers very often. This was frustrating to a lot of students, though many mentioned that it was beneficial. This is how things will often be in the real world, and it seems as though the U is trying to train doctors rather than just test takers. One guy even told me that the current second years are amazed at how much better the first years know the material of this last unit than they do. I had a class like this at my Undergrad university and I felt like I learned a whole lot more than in the classes where i was just spoon fed the answers.

All this was music to my ears and added to my excitement to go here! Hope this helps!

I released the spirit of my acceptance today. Best of luck everyone - I hope it goes to someone that really wants it.

ooo, i'm hoping it comes my way...are you instate or out of state?:xf:

got this email from the U saying that since i have an acceptance from another school that i should remove myself from the alternate list?? are they automatically assuming that we OOSers would consider UofU as our last resort? kind of confused haha

This is what I got:

The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) has informed us that you have been offered an acceptance to another medical school. If you have chosen to attend another school, please send an email to our office withdrawing your position on the alternate list.

If we have not received a response from you by 05/31/2011 we will assume that you have decided to attend another school and will remove your name from our alternate list.

Hmm that's really weird... I wonder why I didn't get one. Are you going to call them?

My husband was the lucky recipient of your withdrawal on the 23rd! I just wanted you to know how much we appreciate the acceptance and are very excited to attend the University of Utah. Thanks again!

Best Day Ever!

thank you thank you hopefully you'll get in soon too. i got a letter in the mail yesterday dated june 7th and my online status changed.

Received a letter Friday 07/22/11 dated 07/14/11 stating the class of 2015 has been filled and my application is no longer under consideration. My online status has not changed from "complete."

It's been a long journey, and best of luck to the current wait-listers on getting in this cycle.

Sorry to hear that I was there last year. FYI your status wont change unless you reapply next year when it will go back to incomplete.
