hey guys! I emailed Dr. Whitehurst-Cook about my placement on the waitlist (3rd time) and she replied!

"You are in a good place right now."

SO HAPPY!!!

Make sure your email is very brief and concise, my last 2 emails were long love letters about MCV.

Now I just have to wait another month or so. hah pretty much used to waiting, turned in my primary on 6.1.10--a year ago!

Awesome jj! Looking forward to your good news. BTW, how long did it take Dr. Whitehurst-Cook to respond to your 3rd email? And by brief do you mean a short paragraph or 1-2 sentences?

I followed JJ's advice and literally sent Dr. WC a one line email. She replied the same day: "We are getting close to your rank." Hope that helps.

I send Dr. WC an e-mail and also got a quick reply. However, I am IS and got the response "the waitlist is moving a little differently this year and predictions are not reliable"....granted I didn't ask her about my position rather just if they got to my spot last year. I take this as a negative response but it really could go either way....ughhhh

As short as possible 1-2 sentences is suffice! I sent the question in the late pm an received a response in the am

Hey everyone im new to SDN but ive been reading this forum for a while (since im waiting eagerly to get into VCU).

Anyway, I was wondering whether anyone who received the email from Joshua Quinn knows anything about their status on the waitlist. I received one as well. Did everyone receive one? Im wondering whether that email was a good thing or a bad thing in retrospect....hopefully good ? :xf:

That email bears no indication on your waitlist status. It was sent to everybody.

I got sorta the same response, last year the waitlist moved really slow because UVA overdrafted and everyone who had a VCU spot held on to it. Let's see how the IS waitlist goes this year...

I've been trying to do some research about getting a one bedroom apt. in Richmond, I'm female, is Churchill and the Shockoe Bottom/slip areas considered safe? Do a lot of med students live in these areas?
I ask because I'm OOS and the few people I know from Richmond are kind of trying to steer me away from these areas saying they are "rough" areas.

I would probably try to stay a little further west. Maybe the fan or west end.
This helped me narrow the neighborhoods down some. Hope it helps.

Thanks JJ! I got the exact same response of "you're in a good position".

I hope that means they're getting to us soon or have in the past. :xf:

Don't fret jjwoo. You are probably really close. If Dr. WC says you are in a good position, you are in a good position. Hang in there!

+1 for the OOS list as well.

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted so far, I look forward to meeting you all this fall!

Now, for my question. Does anyone have suggestions about choosing the size for a white coat? (Maybe some current students can chime in?) I'm going back and forth between S and XS b/c i never trust sizing charts lol. According to the chart I would be an XS b/c I'm a size 2/4 and an XS says 4-6 but worried it might be too small when wearing winter clothing, like a sweater, underneath. But I do want it to fit as nicely as possible. I called the office and they said last year a lot of girls ordered small and they thought it was too big, but when she asked for my height and weight, said a small should be ok for me so now i'm just confused.

I don't see the white coat form on my page. Does it take a few days to show up after paying the deposit?

Got an acceptance yesterday, but I will be giving up my spot. Vtc for me. Good luck, and I hope a fellow sdner gets my spot. Female in state.

Just curious since everyone is posting gender, is there a separate male and female wait list for IS and OOS?

I don't know if it's been asked before, but do I really need to buy a new laptop? I have a 13-inch Mac Book Pro right now that does not meet the supposed minimum requirements for a recommended laptop.

I have a 4 year old macbook that works just fine, so my plan is to keep it and see how it goes. If I was you, I'd try to see how it goes with your current laptop before purchasing a new one.

I recently got an acceptance. I am an OOS male, 3.7 gpa, 29 MCAT, tons of research and volunteer work.

Hey Everyone,

Congratulations on getting in. I am a 3rd year at MCV and I have a house on the edge of the fan. It is in the best area of Richmond and about 3.5 miles from school (8 min drive time in the mornings), huge fenced-in yard, off street parking, close to Carytown shopping and restaurants, etc. I have one roommate now (she will be in the class of 2015 as well) and I'm looking for a second to share the house with. I'll be practically living at the hospital next year, so it will mostly just be the M1s at home. Rent is 475.00 per month for your room and plenty of study space. Give me a call anytime or email at [email protected] for some pictures!

Thanks,

Morgan

When I went for my interview I asked if we could use macs even though their website has specific requirements and both of the students giving the tour said there are plenty of students that have macs. They said there are usually a few people in the class who are good with computers and can help you format the programs or whatever for your mac.

Hey, I just wanted to lend a supporting word to Morgan and his place. I had contacted Morgan a few weeks ago and was just about set to move in to this place when I found out that I got off the waitlist at my top choice. The house is extremely nice, in the fan district with a huge backyard and big rooms. Morgan himself is a super chill guy and is very easy to get in contact with. He was really understanding when I told him I wouldn't be able to take the room. I honestly had to think twice about turning down my top choice just because this living situation was so good... it really sucks that I have to pass on it. It would have been great to live with a third year who knew the city and could help me with any questions I had about school.

Hopefully somebody else can make good use of it!

When will i be accepted?!! Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

im in the same boat as you jjwoo! just keep your hopes up =]!

Same here bro... Still waiting, even though Dr. WC said they are getting closer to my rank. She even said they got to my position last year, but I guess that doesn't mean anything since the waitlist is not moving the same way it was last year.

Dr. WC said the same to me about getting to my IS ranking last year, so that means good news for us bc the waitlist moved really slowly last year due to UVA's over-acceptance
