gotcha. I didn't know they were exactly even. I figured since it was a state institution they'd have preference for IS students.

straight from the website:

Are you a state school and, therefore, do you give preference to in-state residents?
The school is supported with about 7 percent of its budget coming from the Commonwealth of Virginia each year. Consequently, we do give preference to in-state residents.

has anyone e-mailed dr. wc and gotten a response and how long did it take you?

Interview Invitation this morning! Anyone knows if its now for a waitlist spot, etc.?

status change email which turned out to be an interview invite 9:15 AM.

Had the May status since 8/25/10 OOS
Scheduled my interview 2/16/11 and there were still feb dates available.

You won't be interviewing for a waitlist spot because they still have yet to send ~1/4 of their acceptances.

yessss 6 months with the "may" status and an interview invite this morning
finally

hey guys,

Anyone know if a group has been created for peeps attending MCV next year?

Anyone have any thoughts on sending a letter of interest/intent? I know it has been said that once we have our score, nothing's going to change it, but med admissions say a lot of things that sometimes aren't completely true.

Interview invite, OOS!

May status since 9/22, sent update letter 11/8. Man it's been a while.

For those who just got interview invites after having the "may" status, would you mind sharing stats?

Thanks and congrats!

I would write one. It won't hurt, but don't get to the point that you pester them. It definitely reiterates your passion for the school.

anyone find it slightly ackward to call for student hosts? i just tried 2 and got hung up on hah are there emails anywhere to contact them instead of calling?

? I'm kind of surprised. MCV students I've met have been really friendly about this kind of thing. I'd try a few more.

Whoa that's pretty messed up. I had to go through a couple before I found one, but they replied in a very friendly manner about how they already are hosting someone or an exam coming up etc. Certainly not just hanging up on you 🙁 I'd just call down the list, unfortunately there are no e-mail addresses on the site.

yeah let me clarify...i called two people and call got disconnected. we were not actively having a conversation and then i got hung up on. sorry, this is not meant to reflect the MCV student body in the least, just got discouraged. thanks for your comments, will keep calling

First one I called responded very nicely, scheduled a stay with her already.

I don't get it. I have a 38R, cum laude BS in chem from William and Mary (2 years early), over a year of lab research, in-state, working since the summer in a clinic as a medical assistant. I've been wait-listed at UVA, U-Mich, and I've been on hold from VCU since October. I was told that if I couldn't get in to a state school, I couldn't get in anywhere, so I didn't over-apply. Now it's looking like I'll have to re-apply next year...

Anyone know if VCU looks favorably on being bothered? Is sending letters of interest, additional recs of any use for this "hold" status? I know UVA still encourages additional material from wait-listed students.

Coming across your post, I couldn't help but to reply as I was in a similar situation four years ago. W&M, chem, research, high mcat, er scribe, but paucity of interviews/acceptances. I was told that I was very competitive and that I should apply to competitive programs, blah blah blah, and thought that in-state places would be "safeties." Didn't realize that there is no such thing as a "safety" when applying to medical school! Just know that not having acceptances is almost certainly not because you don't deserve them, rather simply a reflection of the randomness of the entire process. I ended up getting acceptances at VCU and EVMS. Don't give up on VCU; the training here is fantastic. Maybe I'm biased but I have friends at the other Virginia schools and I have no doubt that I've gotten the best education and clinical experience among us, although UVA does have pretty good pre-clinical training.

Anyway, enough sales-pitch from me. Good luck!! Don't get too discouraged; it's just a stupid more or less random process!! Maybe I'll run into you next year (I'm likely sticking around for internship)

has anyone received an acceptance packet who got accepted on Feb. 1? I just realized i didn't get one yet ..

i think its just like a one page letter since they do everything online basically so dont wait around for a huge packet.

Anyone else feel like March 15th is too far away? Is that the final decision day, like you will for sure find out something by then? I haven't really heard a peep since my interview in November.

ha one month! well yeah i mean that's our last chance for a straight up acceptance. after that we pretty much know that we'll either be waitlisted or rejected.

Does anyone know whether it will be likely that "On Hold" statuses will change anytime soon? I have been on hold since October and my priority number still has not come up. If you do not get an interview in Feb do you just assume that you were rejected since it is to my understanding that VCU only interviews through the month...

i think if you get accepted, theyll let you know on the dates that they have on your status page

has anyone accepted so far been given a scholarships yet? does anyone know when these are given?

Hey guys,

I've gotten accepted to a few medical schools (thankfully!) and I got an interview invitation from VCU. For those of you who have interviewed and/or live in the downtown Richmond area, what are your views on Richmond? Is it a nice city with a lot going on or is it more slow paced? I'm just trying to decipher whether I should spend a couple of hundred dollars to fly out there...Thanks!

I'm from Los Angeles and interviewed at VCU and was actually pretty impressed with Richmond. Its definitely much more slow paced than LA but obviously comparing it to LA probably isn't fair  I liked it a lot though, its slow paced in a good way if that makes sense... you can actually drive without 20 people honking at you while you take a look at something or check if parking is available. From the day and night I spent in Richmond, I think there would definitely be enough to keep you interested for four years 🙂

Withdrew my application today. Good luck to those waiting!

Just canceled my interview for Monday and withdrew my application. I hope there is someone out there who can take the spot!

I was a late applicant, got the further for a while and got an interview invite last week! :soexcited:So, hey keep your hopes up...it's worth it!!

I got a "may" way back in September. Seems like the "further" has a better chance for an interview than us "may" folks. 🙁

Could you share your stats? ... so we can see whether there is still a chance at this late stage? Thanks. 🙂

I got the "may" status in December and got an interview invite a week or two ago, so don't give up!

GPA <3.5, MCAT >30, IS

I called them...they said that this is the last week of interviews, so no more invites will go out.

I interviewed this past Wednesday and got a "status update" email tonight and I swear I was so nervous to open it! After waiting an hour deciding whether or not I should open it, I couldn't even remember my AMCAS ID.... which I've had memorized since June last year... but after looking my number up.... Alas, it was just a post-interview survey. AGH!!!!!!!!!!!

Hoping for good news March 15th I <3 VCU and its by far my #1 choice.

Do you mean no more interview invites will go out after this week? Or invites have already stopped and this is the last week of actual interviewing?

Have been on the further status :bang:

I interviewed feb 16th and our tour guide said that was the last tours they were doing and that there would only be one more week of interviews.

Also for lunch I looked at the menu and ordered the country club. When we were waiting for a red light on the tour I saw a street cart that sold the exact same lunch menu. When I told the tour guide she winked at me. We got lunch from a street cart and it was good.

This detail, coupled with username "Quiznos Oven" really gave me a good laugh

Rejected post interview. Not even waitlist........ T_T
There's always next year..................

I interviewed Feb 16th and yesterday 3/3/11 I got a status update saying they put my app on hold and will make a decision march 16th. Personally I thought my interview went terrible and i would get an outright rejection. My interviewer had his eyes rolling up to his forehead and eyelids starting to close when I was speaking. I kept my answers concise too nothing longer than a minute. Anyways drumroll until march 16th.

@AndyBernard... how did you get a decision today? was this from the 2/1 batch?

You can get rejected at any point. It doesn't have to be on a certain day like it is with acceptances.
