Does everyone's waitlist letters say "very highly ranked", "highly ranked" or something else?

I got a handwritten reply on my alternate list letter today. It said that they are sorry they were unable to grant me seat in their class at the moment but that they were strongly reconsidering me and that they hope I keep them in consideration.

I don't know if this was mentioned before, but do you guys know how much time is spent on lectures, labs, small groups, etc...? I wanted to get a breakdown of the activities. Also, is the curriculum systems-based? I think it is, but I just want to confirm.

Thanks!

System based. Lectures m to f 9-12. Depending on the block you can have a small group from 11-1 a fee times a week. Anatomy lab is 130-530 twice a week. One day in lab one day in small group after a lecture or two each day.

waitlisted! 🙂

no other acceptances. I hope it is true that there are spots for waitlisters with no other acceptances.

mmm and rougeunicorn can you confirm this so I have a little more peace of mind?

They do take no other acceptances in mind, yes.

Thanks for answering my questions mmm.... I was wondering, how is the need based aid at this school?

An envelope has finally made its way up to Canada...and it's a big one! This was my dream school for years so I'll see you all at second look and most likely in the fall!! Ahhhh!!

I have yet to hear back in any form. Is anyone else in this situation?

No way! If I can get into that average I will be ludicrously happy. Is there some sort of bias on this data I should be aware of before getting my hopes up?

The bias for every school's average indebtedness comes from those students on scholarship but primarily from those attending through service grants (navy, army, etc.) that have a post graduate indebtedness of $0. That skews the average a little...

And those whose parents pay the whole thing. I know a couple of those lucky kids 😉

This waiting is killing me...I think Columbia's priority mail plan got stymied by my university's slow-as-balls mail system. Did anyone call the admissions office to hear their decision? I imagine it'd be incredibly awkward to tell someone they got rejected over the phone.

Good call. Still though, I'd be pretty happy with anything in that general vicinity.

If you don't get it by monday it is acceptable to contact them and inform them of this.

Agreed, the actual value when you remove the 0's is closer to $150k.

If one doesn't have any major updates and did not get a personalized note are the chances of getting off a 500+ person wait list slim to none?

Hmm. . . absolutely no letter/packet received. This may be a flaw of my campus mailing system, but should I call tomorrow if there is still nothing in the morning? 😕

Is there anything important that goes on in the FB group? I deleted my account (teach right now and it's not awesome to have students creeping on you) so I can't really join...

You can restrict your privacy settings so that students can't find you...

It isn't a requirement, but you will find it much easier to get yourself organized if you are on the facebook group. Plus it is a major social forum throughout the year.

received a waitlist letter yesterday.
too disappointed.
In the beginning they said "I can assure you that your application will receive
very strong consideration." and also later "I can assure you
that we will keep you strongly in mind" after update letter.
Now on the waitlist letter, it says again "very highly ranked".

I found many people are getting almost same email or letter.
I hope they didn't give us big expectation with such a nice word
unless it is a real likely letter or email.

big congrats to everyone accepted and good luck to waitlisted.

could someone give the link to the facebook group? I'm having a hard time finding it for some reason...

I'm having trouble finding it as well...

I know, but I wasn't a huge FB fan to begin with, them looking me up was just the impetus for me to do what I had been thinking about doing.

Sigh....I guess I'll just create a shell of an account to join the group. Of course, only a month after deleting my account I find a valid excuse to have one.

Waitlisted; the letter finally arrived here in Ontario. I loved this school but will be declining my position on the alternate list. Congrats to everyone who's in, best of luck to everyone still waiting!

ETA: Letter was delivered to my parent's place, had to force my younger brother to open the letter. His glee at my "failure" was quite frightening :scared:

Ah, younger siblings: can't live with them, and it's against the law to kill them. 😉

Soooo... the first year living situation... is anybody else as turned off by it as I am? Columbia is an absolutely amazing school, but the thought of living in Bard Hall (terrible heating, scary shared bathrooms, ONE kitchen for the entire first year class and a measly 3 dinners/week meal plan to compensate) is really putting me off. Do other people just not care about this/somehow have a way to make it less miserable than it seems?

There are other living options. You can live off campus or you can apply for a vacancy in one of the apartments. The housing office has a list of all apartments where vacancies are need to be filled.

Also, the bard hall lease can be cancelled at any time for a refund of all remaining money

ha give me that terrible living situation and the chance to go to Columbia any day.

Aren't off campus apartments much more expensive and harder to find? Also, I heard that first years cannot get into the towers... that a year living in Bard is the entrance fee.

What about the Towers? I'll be living in couples housing, so I get to live there my first year, thank goodness! Can someone tell me about the differences between the three choices: Jr-1 Bedroom Apt, 1 Bedroom Apt, and 154 Haven Ave? Is 154 Haven Ave so cheap because it's small? (The monthly rent is $1,325, and it comes fully furnished, whereas the other ones don't.)

I'll be in couples housing also, so I'm curious about the choices too. Although the furnished ones have carpet apparently, which doesn't sound great.

No offense, but that's such a first-world problem.

Hahahaha. I didn't mean it like that, but it's pretty funny. I just meant in comparison to the other apartments.

To be fair, pretty much anything I can complain about after getting in here boils down to an embarrassment of riches.
