I've already requested off work friday so I'll be drinking Thursday either in celebration or in mourning!

Just got my Regular Pool invite today by phone! Actually missed the call at first and had to call back 😛

Here's my stats:
In State, 3.3GPA, 38Q MCAT

Interviewing on 10/27, super excited!!! Wish me luck!

Just got off the phone with Dr. Tift and I'm in!!!!!😀

I interviewed in Savannah last week for EDP. Still waiting to hear from them.

Got a call from Dr. Tift an hour ago. I'm in 🙂 2 times RD and 1 EDP. It's been a long process but so worth it. Will post stats and details when I'm at my computer. To those waiting to hear don't fret! They make most of their calls tomorrow. Goodluck to everyone!

😀

I interviewed in savannah as well. Who was you interviewer? I had dr berenguer. So do the people that interviewed us on the committee call us? Or is it just anyone calls us?

I had Dr. Yang and a 4th year as my two, don't really want to post her name publicly as she isn't faculty so it may not be appropriate.

I'm trying to remain hopeful... we will have to wait and see. I got accepted at another school for January, although I really want to go to Mercer, as staying and practicing in state is very important for me.

Well I didn't want to be the first and make people freak out, but I also got the call from Dr. Tift at 6:41. Totally unexpected that I would hear this early! Hang in there people, try not to think about it, and it will come when you least expect it. Congrats to all who have gotten in thus far and looking forward to getting started next August!

I don't think anymore calls are going to be made this evening. Hopefully the rest of us will hear something tomorrow......

I don't know if I am going to be able to sleep tonight.... I want this so bad, and its my last chance as well. Does anyone know if they take transfer students from non-US schools?

Interviewed at Savannah with Dr. berenguer..and haven't heard anything..

So am I only going to medical school with 3 other people? Hopefully the rest of the adcom will start churning out some congratulatory phone calls. Hang in there guys. The feeling of relief is well worth the stress...:soexcited:

If you go back to last year's thread you'll see that some folks didn't get a call until late in the afternoon post committee meeting. I'm sure there are still plenty of phone calls to be made. Don't give up hope. :xf:

Got a email this morning at 11 am. Deferred to regular pool. This sucks. Off to the Caribbean for me I guess.

Soooo who is going to make the facebook group for our class of 5 students?

Actually I take that back. I received a call this morning from my interviewer about being accepted, but two hours later got an email saying my application has been deferred to the regular application pool. When I called and asked what happened, they said I received the phone call in error and that my application will be moved to the regular pool...

Speechless...

Gee, that just sucks!😡

I motion to have 4thQTHailMary initiate the official Mercer Class of 2016 Facebook group. All in favor...say I! 👍

Don't give up. If Mercer interviewed you it means they see you as a student there. If you don't get in this year and boost your application for next year you have a very good chance of getting in (especially if you get wait-listed this year).

In regards to your previous question, no, Mercer (or most US Medical Schools) does not accept overseas transfers. I was in the same boat as you and considered going to SGU in Grenada many times but I knew I'd always wish I had stayed and tried again. I applied 3 times (did a Master's and will be doing research for this year) but its worth it. If you know what you want (and if it's Mercer) then you will get it.

To those of us who are in, congratulations! Looking forward to interacting with all of you not on the internet 😎.

I wanted to ask if guys know if we get to choose between Macon or Savannah. Does anyone have an opinion between the two? I think I am going to go tour Savannah (Since I interviewed at Macon all times) and see how I feel.

Congrats everyone who got in... If anyone needs opinions on Savannah, post your questions about the best campus 😉

You get to choose between the two, they'll send you a form ranking your preference (since you're EDP, you'll get your choice...60 Macon, 40 Savannah unless they're upping the number in Sav, which they have plans for)

If you've heard Savannah is in a crap building, that's no longer true. We have a newer building than Macon, and a beach!

Are you sure about the overseas transfer not being possible? I know someone who went to SGU that was considering transferring to Mercer at one point.

I applied last year RD, this year ED, so I am on my second cycle. Mercer is and has always been my first choice, so I will still hold out some hope for RD this year.

I hear you on doing the Masters. I have two bachelors and a minor, and I am finishing my Masters thesis this semester and graduating. I really don't think there is a whole lot to fill the time between now and Fall 2013 academically if I were to go for another EDP chance. Any ideas?

Get in a hospital and work as a Transporter or Technician. You have to be certified to pretty much do anything invasive, however, if you have a good relationship with a hospital or just certain doctors there are ways to get around it. Regardless, you will get great experience, learn a ton (I learned more in the 1.5 years I spent in the OR after undergrad than in college), and rack up some exceptional physician letters of recommendation. While I was solid in terms of stats and activities, I feel my clinical experience was the real strength of my application as I had accumulated thousands of hours working, interning, shadowing, and volunteering in multiple hospitals.

Another route would be research, which is what I'm currently doing. Either way, it's all about how you present it in a way that reflects Mercer's mission during your interview.

I know it's easier said than done, but don't give up. This was my second application cycle, and I too strongly considered DO/Caribbean. It will work out eventually if you continue to do the right things.

I'm definitely going to have to visit the Savannah campus before I make a decision. I have friends at both that love it so it's tough to make an objective decision based upon their input. My only concern with Savannah, and maybe you can address this, is that it seems like a logistical nightmare being isolated on the coast and 4+ hours from my hometown and Atlanta. Other than that, Savannah is obviously a more desirable city to spend the next 4 years in.

I've an odd situation: I have gotten no calls and no emails from Mercer telling me either yay or nay; however, I just now got an email from Certiphi telling me I've been either waitlisted or conditionally accepted. 😕

I was waitlisted RD last year, and I don't recall getting a background check request at all. Did any of you fine ppl waitlisted get this? I'm a little reluctant to get my hopes up, and I don't want to be the annoying person who can't wait to be called and jumps at the slightest breeze my way. Any advice?

I was waitlisted last year and I did not get it. However, I was accepted this year and I just got that email. Call them to be sure! Looks like things are getting hectic in the Mercer admissions office...

Figures! No one is at their desks when I'm languishing in limbo 😛 Alas, I'm not about to get my hopes up at all.

I too was accepted and have filled out the Certiphi background request. Hate to get your hopes up but that may be a very good sign. If you read last year's thread calls were all over the place and some people who were accepted didn't get a call at all.

Hey guys,

Sorry I've been too scared/excited to post recently. I also was accepted yesterday and I interviewed in Savannah. I also got the certiphi email today and just submitted it and I can't wait for it to go through!

Ps, I was also waitlisted last year after interviewing in November, but this time accepted. Don't give up because waiting for a US MD is so worth it!

Can't wait to meet everyone else accepted and I'm going to be choosing Macon in case anyone else is going to as well. Good luck to everyone else!

Finally going to be a doctor! AHHH 😀

BlakeGriffinFan,

Congrats! In fact, congratulations to everyone who is officially in. Those us in limbo, well, let's keep hoping; and for those who got deferred, hang in there!

Just for the sake of cat-killing curiousity. Did any of you with Certiphi emails receive any sort of cover letter with a fax # for the hard copy of the release form? I'm either blind, or there is no fax# anywhere in the documents I got.

I second this. I had pretty decent stats but was not even offered an interview last year. Working as an IM medical assistant over the past year I believe pushed me over the edge. Clinical experience like this helps immensely, especially at Mercer, it seems. They want to see that you have seen the real side of medicine and are still committed to it.

Honestly, the only time you'll have to go home/Atlanta is the weekend right after a test, which is about every 6 weeks. Even if you're thinking you'll drive from Macon to Atlanta every other weekend or something, which is only an hour or so away, you'll be wishing you were studying that whole hour and then when you get there to do whatever you're doing, you'll wish you were studying instead. It's so easy to get behind. There's really no time off, at least not at first while you're acclimating and figuring out how much non-studying you can get away with. So if you don't mind the longer drive home every once in a while, Savannah's fine. It might be even beneficial so you're not tempted to take time off from studying to visit family

Also, being in Savannah is not a big deal at all as far as the learning process goes. Some of the professors (phase leaders and tutors at Mercer) are in Macon, some are in Savannah. So no matter which campus you go to, at some point you'll have to video-conference for resources (kind of like a lecture, maybe have 1 a week, not required to attend, recorded). But it seems like (at least in Savannah) all the tutors know everything about everything, ha, so I haven't had to reach out to anyone in Macon at all yet. Savannah seems successfully stand-alone so far.

Hmm...just some other Macon/Savannah differences...
Macon's obviously on Mercer's campus and the hospital is down the road. Savannah is on the hospital's campus, right next to the ER and helipad (guilty pleasure of mine). Memorial's also a level 1 trauma center like Macon, so that's cool. You get a hospital badge day 1 and can go pretty much anywhere in the hospital, you'd be surprised where your badge will take you . The hospital has a nice gym and it's free to us. Volunteering opportunities are good. Parking's free.
That said, in Macon you get the campus and the benefits that go with that, i.e., intramural sports are big in Macon. In Savannah, we have rec league sports teams, which you have to pay for, but still does the job. A lot of people go to the beach, kayaking, camping.

Ultimately, my advice would be to pick which city you'd be happiest in, and leave all other factors out...Because med school is so stressful and it consumes most of your time and will be the exact same in both locations, you don't need more stress from not enjoying where you live. Maybe you'd be happier in Macon closer to home and family for a quick afternoon trip, or maybe you'd be happier in Savannah where you like to beach with friends on random Tuesdays...I can't decide that for you, but I definitely encourage everyone to visit both campuses before deciding.

Well, it's official! 😱

I have two sources (three if I count an email) assuring me that I've been accepted. :xf:

Still feels rather unreal! Now, I think I'm gonna go and catch up on all the sleep I've missed since Wednesday. 😴

Good luck:luck: to everyone else who is still waiting, and to those in RD pool.

I'm in too! 🙂 Good luck to those who are still waiting to hear from admissions!

Hey is anybody planning on starting a Facebook page for Class of 2016. I'd like to meet some of my future classmates!
