To follow up on the MD/PhD not getting an MD waitlist number, I called the office today and they told me my MD-only waitlist number in case anyone is in a similar situation. They also said that the top 25 remaining applicants are put on the MD/PhD alternate list but you don't get a specific number.

Does that mean all 25 of those people are also on the alternate list for the MD only program?

On my portal the decision was changed from "On Hold" to "Alternate". I would call to double check your status though.

That's weird. I just called Johanna, the MD/PhD admin (as per your advice), and she said that being "on hold" is the same as being on the "alternate list" for the md/phd program. Maybe someone is manually entering our statuses and just arbitrarily deciding whether to say "on hold" or "alternate," lol.

Does anybody know when the last day to withdraw an acceptance from other MD schools are? DO you have to be out before oreintation etc? And is tuition refunded?

just so ya'all know...about 7 (or 8) people in the FB group are current M1s. I probably won't be letting any more m1s into the group so ya'all have a more accurate representation of how many c/o 2016 acceptees have joined the group.
Is there any chance you could remove the current M1s from the class of 2016 FB group? It's confusing for people who are waiting to get in AND for people who have already been accepted because it's hard to figure out who is in the class and who isn't. I don't see why people from other classes should be in the 2016 group--we aren't in theirs. If people want to friend the M1s or M2s individually to get advice or something, then they can do that on their own. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just think it would clarify things a bit for everyone. Thanks!

Enh... it's a facebook page. I'm not sure how much useful information you can really get from that.
By the time you actually need to know who is in your class and who isn't (ie, after orientation) that should be plenty clear. But I don't know if kicking out several of the friendlier members of the class of 2015 will do much to help anybody.

I totally agree! The MS1's have offered a lot of great advice so far. 🙂

It's helpful to get info about the school, advice, etc. Since the alternate list movement will be updated daily on the portal, we should have a good idea of where we stand anyway. If there are 2015ers who want to help us newbies, I welcome that 👍

Also, you know there are about 7 in group so you can just subtract that number from the total to determine how many are incoming students. Keep in mind not everyone has a facebook so not every student who is accepted will be in the group. Some people could also be waiting to join until school starts once they know they are for sure going there and won't get pulled off a wait list for another school.

I actually made a point to not join the Class of 2016 group (as a Class of 2015 student) because I think it's important for every class to have a place to communicate with each other in a more private manner. Eventually they'll give you a talk about professionalism on the internet and you'll start to get a little wary about who is reading what everyone is writing etc.

Anyway now there's a group for all four years to join. That way you guys can get advice from upperclass students without having a deluge of them on your private group.

It's called OHSU School of Medicine Students and the link is:

Since the May 15th deadline has passed, does anyone have any information about the final number of acceptances that went out?

Waitlisters,

The alternate list is apparently on the move! I just received an acceptance letter (was at waitlist #2). Good luck to everyone!

Holy crap! Congratulations!

(Just checked the portal and it doesn't look like there's any info on current waitlist #s -- anyone else get an email?)

edited to add: I guess I shouldn't be too surprised if they start the beginning of the list this early--as long as, say, #s 1-10 all wanted to remain on the alternate list, there's no reason not to accept them if the spots are there.

Waitlisted at #4 and just got the acceptance email!!! 😱🙂😍

Just got my acceptance too. #8. Does anyone know how long we have to decide?

Congratulations!

The last couple of years I don't believe there's been any deadline to respond on OHSU's part. If you're currently sitting on another acceptance that school will be notified and might want a decision in some time frame--I'd check with them in that case. You need time to get OHSU's loan package, at least.
Which way are you leaning?

Also, anyone in the teens heard anything yet?

According to AMCAS traffic rules (just looked this up) you have 2 weeks to decide on an acceptance if you have already have one. And it doesn't look like OHSU has a deadline so I'd go with the AMCAS two weeks thing.

Just when I thought I could temporarily stop obsessively checking this thread for a week, this news breaks. Hopefully this is a good sign and there will be a lot of alternate list movement this year.

I know, right? I'd been telling everybody how nice it was to take a breather this week, and now here I am trying to do breathing exercises!

At least they're about a quarter of the way to your number now. Not a bad start, eh? Good luck!

Ah, I'm not counting on anything yet. Last year they got to #38 on the first day of WL movement and were at 60 in 8 days. (5/31/11)
But here's hoping! :xf: And good luck to you too!

The day is still young... ;-)

True but the waitlist didn't start moving till the 23rd last year so a whole week later. The deadline for alternate list people to respond hasn't even hit yet. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Just checked the 2009-2010 thread (the year the alternate list movement stopped at 32). It took them almost exactly a month to get to number 18 on the alternate list. So it's looking like this year's movement might be more like the movement from last year. :xf:

Thank you! I hope this is the year for you NW!

Got the email! Accepted! See you guys in August!

(And for folks on the low end of the waitlist, this puts the WL movement *at least* at par with last year's. :luck::luck::luck:)

Solid work 🙂

Looks like your year is shaping up to be a high waitlist year too. Good news for a lot of people.

I hope so... frankly, I was probably the longest shot applicant around. Ill share my stats if I get an acceptance!

Logged on today to make a little comment, and saw that the waitlist is moving. Congratulations Northwesterly, and to everyone else who's been accepted!

...

Now for my comment. I just thought I'd add a note about the presence of current MS-1's on the incoming class's facebook page, speaking as one of those current students. Last year's class had a few people who were part of our group, and they really did offer some great advice.

Maybe think of us as some macrophages infiltrating your connective tissue... yes, we might cause some destruction in the process of migration as we digest the matrix that has been built up there, but we're only there to help!

Can someone tell me what the "second look" thing is all about?

Can someone tell me what the "second look" thing is all about?

Essentially the goal of 2nd look is to invite accepted students back to campus to see and learn more about the SOM without being under any of the pressure/anxiety/emotions/etc associated with interview day. 2nd looks are really great for people who are torn between which of their med school acceptances to choose.

I personally attended 2nd look earlier this month and I was able to attend a lecture, meet with some current students (M1s), get a better tour of campus than on interview day, learn more about the curriculum setup, and learn about a couple of the department/centers (e.g. global health center) on campus. If you are in the area, I would say go to it!!! You definitely will see the school in a new light.

On a side note, are there more 2nd looks scheduled? I thought the last one was like on May 11th. But then again it makes sense to have another one since there was so much waitlist movement today.

AND CONGRATS TO EVERYONE WHO GOT THEIR ACCEPTANCE TODAY 😀

If there aren't any more scheduled I'm sure any accepted student could still have a look around and probably even snag an MS1 to answer questions. Just ask the admissions department and they'll probably arrange something. If not anyone can just PM me and I'll put you in contact with the admission's liaison in our class and she can set something up.

I hope so... Im at 59, and frankly, I was probably the longest shot applicant around. Ill share my stats if I get an acceptance!

FYI: Last year, the waitlist reached #38 the first day, ending up somewhere around 120.
Two years ago it reached #3 the first day (and #10 by June 4th) before ending up at 32.
Three years ago it ended the first day at #5 on its way to #16 on June 18th and ended at 36.

You do the math. 🙂

Good luck, folks!
