Wow.. and nothing yet.. 😡 oh well.. I guess I will just have to take it easy for the next few weeks...

Maybe we wont get as high as last year? We have already fallen behind where we were last year. By the 31st it was already at 60....

My understanding had always been that unlike most schools, OHSU requires additional courses in genetics and biochemistry in addition to the standard chem/orgo/bio/physics sequence. Definitely best to call and ask though.

My bio sequence satisfied my genetics requirement. Bio 214 was called Biochemistry/ Genetics so it had the potential to count as either but not both. I took
An additional biochem course so 214 counted as genetics. Alternatively I could have taken a genetics course and counted it as my biochem.

Sounds fair enough.
It's also been my experience that once accepted, admissions officers are generally willing to work with you on requirements--they're not looking to axe someone they just made an offer to. Not that you can skip Physics or anything, but if there's an English requirement and you took three Russian literature classes, for example, you'd probably be okay. I also had three different schools say they didn't care about the general Chem lab (not lecture!) requirements and ended up completing only two of three quarters.
Better safe than sorry, though. For any future applicants out there, don't wait 'til it's too late to find out!

Is anyone else on the wait list debating whether to complete a new AMCAS app? I'm less than 10 spots away, but the wait list is moving kind of slow....

I know its still very early to speculate, but we might end up with something like 2006 or 2007 this year, at least I hope it gets that high! Then again, economic conditions are still pretty rough, the higher out of state tuition will be a big deal for many people here..

Not to mention the high in-state tuition...

The lack of movement is worrisome...not sure if I should be making plans to leave the state it not....

seriously, what is going on here! Total movement of 1 spot over the last week.. But hey, even at this rate of 1 per week, it should still move another 9 or 10 spots at least before school starts. and we are still waiting on the cali schools. Lets give it some time, and see what happens. Your pretty close aren't you?

I'm 11 away so gonna need slightly more than 1/week... I feel like OHSU is toying with me...I had virtually given up on them (since my interview >6months ago) till the waitlist came out and then didn't even follow the waitlist till last week when I found out it was at 46....Here's hoping for big movement in June!

Hang in there!

I still think anyone <70 should feel very comfortable. (I know, I know, that's not possible. But logically.) I'm guessing the WL ends up somewhere in the high eighties, although I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 100.

If I had to guess, I'd say that the wait list will max out at ~80. The current rate is a little discouraging and I've heard that USC hasn't started taking people off of their wait list because their class is still full. Dartmouth and Stanford are also not accepting people off of their wait list this year. I guess people just really want to go to medical school.

Anyway, I hope I'm wrong and that a lot more people get off of the wait list. And I hope it happens soon.

Haha very true. The estimated tuition/fee's/insurance for residents for 2011-2012 is $43,132.00 and $57,504.00 for non-residents. I think people would be very happy with paying only 30,000 like the article suggests. Yes tuition for residents without the additional fees is $34,316.00 which is still over 4,000 higher than 30,000 mentioned in the article and would become an additional 20,000 over the 4 years especially with interest. Also, the fees aren't optional. I don't know how much other schools charge in fees but that seems very steep to me. Oh well. People will continue to pay regardless of how expensive it is.

Also, for everyone on the wait list, OHSU has graduation today for the 2012 class so I don't the admissions office is open. Just letting everyone know so they don't have to continuously check the portal and SDN. Fingers crossed for tomorrow!

I just got my acceptance email! Woohoo! Portal says they have accepted through 54.😀

Congratulations! That is very exciting! Any fun plans to celebrate?

Thank you! I'm going out to dinner with my husband and we might even splurge on a bottle of champagne.

Well done!!!! Hope to join you soon!

Your number is coming up! Hopefully the wait list movement will start to pick up soon and you won't have to wait too much longer. Good luck!

Congrats Doctoraku! That sounds like an excellent way to celebrate. 🙂

Im at 68 ! I wonder if it will reach me.. Reapplicant to ohsu and cali resident!

I definitely think you'll get an acceptance, it's just a question of when...

I am guessing we will reach between 85-95... I think you'll get an acceptance.

Can we please start a betting pool? Whoever is closest get's a free cup of coffee! 😛

I think I'll stick to my original guess at 80. But for the sake of some people on this thread, I hope I'm wrong.

A betting pool ay? I'll go with 94!

I would not bet, It may insult other people on the waiting list. Are you sure it's a good idea? I maybe wrong. I assume that both of you very close on the WL.

Good point. I only meant to keep the thread more active, but I understand that it is a sensitive subject, so I sincerely apologize if I offended anybody.

Honestly, the way I see it, we're all in this together. I love coming here and talking to people because no one else understands the OHSU anxiety quite like you all do. I have an immense respect for everybody on this forum because, despite all of our concerns and insecurities, we've managed to develop a very supportive community. I would be honored to be classmates with all of you.

I was deciding between two acceptances and received an email from OHSU asking me to choose one within 10 days. I chose OHSU, but if they are starting to track down others like me, it could be a good sign for waitlist movement soon.

Hope you're right for the waitlisters out there but don't forget that the list moves throughout the entire summer. There are people who were getting ready to start at another school when their number came up and they moved back.

The way I see it is If people get offended by betting on wait list movement then they either aren't being realistic or they simply are too touchy. Should they also get offended by mentioning how far the previous years' movement went since it might make them feel like they won't get in?

Put me down for 77.

oh boy...

At least we are having some discussion here though!

I think the important thing here is that we are talking about the numbers themselves, and not the people who are behind the numbers. As most of us (being pre-med) are at least slightly OCD, I think there is a natural inclination to try to extrapolate where from we stand at the moment. I don't think any of us here feel that because we are closer to the acceptance than others, that we are in anyway better than them. In fact, when I applied here, I thought I was wasting my money and had no chance of acceptance. I say this because I know just how qualified we all are to be physicians.

I'm sorry if I offended anybody, maybe we approached this without tact, but I don't think it is necessary to detract my guesstimation. Again, we are not betting that some individuals are better then others, its about numbers, we are just looking at previous trends and trying to see how well we can project the trends.

If I am seeing this wrong, I would love to hear it from another side, it might make me change my mind...

Agreed. It's not about so and so getting in. The betting is looking at past numbers and speculation on WL movement and saying what number you think will happen. The fact is that they will only take up to a certain number, what that number is is what we're betting on.

dunno if you're trolling but... the fact is, doctors should be sensitive to people of all thoughts, whether you deem it to be logical or illogical. While I personally don't care that you have a betting game, I'm sure some people do and you should be sensitive to those people's feeling

looking at last year's numbers and betting is way different. betting implies that you hope it falls on the number you guess on. In a way, you are hoping some people get in and some people don't.

I don't think anyone here is hoping that any particular person will not get in. It's impossible to avoid acknowledging that some will get in and some won't, and the factors that influence this feel as random as the roll of a dice.

Betting/speculating on exactly what number will be the one is a way of feeling like we have the tiniest scrap of control over a helpless situation.

Relax man.
If you talk about him needing to be understanding of others' feelings, then put yourself in his shoes as well. You just accused him of hoping that some people don't get in, when really, he was just predicting the number.

You're right, in an extreme situation, a betting game of numbers seems rude. If during the next major hurricane, we begin betting on the number of people who are going to survive/die, that would be horrible.
But then again, if we were to bet on how many people would get A's or C's in an orgo test, it doesn't seem as bad right?

Waitlist is a reality. The fact that he said 77 was a joke/prediction, and I hope everyone takes it as such. Let's not make mountains out of mole hills... although I just made the mole hill a little bigger to try and stop the inevitable argument that could ensue.

its more the fact that he calls out people who cares about a betting game as being unrealistic and too touchy. i understand why theres a betting game, but theres no reason to start attacking people who might care.

I don't know man. We're all in the same boat..
Enjoy your weekend 🙂

I feel the need to point out one little pedantic detail:

The one poster so far who has expressed offense is a very new SDN member with two posts. That doesn't mean they don't have the right to their own opinions and feelings. That does mean that we have basically no point of reference to frame where they're coming from.

In contrast, I think I do have a pretty good sense of the overall good intentions and kindhearted motivations of people who have shared quite a lot of themselves through this journey in dozens or even hundreds of posts in this app cycle thread, and maybe last year's, and maybe even the year before that.

When someone's sole contribution to a conversation that's been going on for a year is to snipe about something, I'm more likely to wonder if they're the troll.

also like to point out the fact that the person who guessed 77 and said people are too touchy and unrealistic is going to duke and has no intention on going to ohsu.

Seriously... I dont know how long it took you to research that, but good for him or her. I don't exactly see why that's relevant here, and I also dont see how you know for sure which place he/she is going, this person is on the waitlist here for a reason...

The other thing here is that regardless of where this person is going, they have a spot on the waitlist here BUT this in no way affects the relative placement of anybody else. Additionally, if this person is going somewhere else, this is potentially good news for somebody else further down.

Frankly, I congratulate him/her on the acceptance to duke, and I hope they are a good fit where ever they choose to go.

This is a forum here... Everybody has a right to complain about what ever they want, but really, there is a right and wrong way to approach it. Maybe we can take things down a notch?

You know he is going to Duke because he has an MD Profile set up. And he isn't on the wait list at OHSU, he was accepted to OHSU and already turned down his spot. Regardless I agree that we should take things down a notch. Lets stay positive and encouraging on this thread.
