I interviewed yesterday, 1 Dec, and was admitted today, 2 Dec. I'm very excited. I liked a lot of my fellow candidates yesterday, so I hope some of you are in the same boat as me.

Anyone here scheduled for January 5th?

That's awesome news! I was there in November and it was a great time. I really like the curriculum format.

I was really impressed. As things are winding down, it looks like 2 interviews in TX for me, and one prematch so far. Good luck to you all, and I hope we get a chance to meet in el paso!

I'll be there the 5th! Just so happens I'm back in town for the holidays. Worked out well. So excited!

I received an offer from my dream school out of state today. Therefore, while I adore this school, I will have to reject the pre-match. I hope it goes to one of you guys, good luck!

You da shiz! Thank you and good work.

Has anyone who interviewed on January 5th looked to see if PLFSOM has shown up on their TMDSAS rank list? It has not shown up on mine yet.

Wow, with how bad BYU lost to Utah I'm really surprised they are still offering positions to you guys.

Yeah, that was pretty embarrassing. I'm just glad they didn't hold my team's incompetence against me. 🙂

I prematched here and ranked PLF #1 on my match. I'll see y'all in the summer!

It's been very quiet here. I can feel the tension in the room. Is anyone out there? 😉

Pre matched here and ranked it first as well. Congrats to everyone who matched today! See yall in July .

BTW is there a facebook group for the new class?

My match confirmation e-mail says " Please notify us within two weeks from the date of this letter about your decision regarding this position. If we do not hear from you by then, we will need to proceed with offering your place in the class to another deserving applicant."

Do I just reply to the e-mail saying I accept?

Thanks!

Ya know, I had the same confusion about this sentence, but...

Before that, the email states that they expect the returned acceptance form, background check consent form, and curriculum completion form by Feb 17th. So the end of this work week is Friday, Feb 3, and in two weeks its feb 17th. Its just reiterating, get those forms back to us within 2 weeks (feb 17th)

or so i understood after reading it over and over and over

although.. it says 2 weeks from the "date of this letter" . probably a quick "yes please" can't hurt right?

I replied to the e-mail, and also logged in on the Merlin, where you can accept your spot.
What about the background check? Has anyone clicked on the link? Do we have to pay the $40 for it?

Yeah, I faxed in the Disclosure form as well as filled out the online form and payed the $40 for the background check.

I've matched here and accepted, but is anyone else worried about national recognition issues with getting into residency programs?

Well, considering it hasn't had a graduating class yet, I'm concerned about how competitive the students will be in their residency matches. I'm sure they'll do fine, but its not like you can see a track record like you can at every other med school.

I talked a little about this with my interviewer (I have also accepted my match position here). She mentioned that it is kind of a risk, and not one that some students are willing to take. But, honestly, I do not think it is a concern at all. When I emailed my former boss to let him know I got in, he had only good things to say about the school and that he was co-PI on a project with the director of research. I think El Paso is a flourishing program that has a good future.

PLFSOM is going to carry the Texas Tech name. Check out Texas Tech Lubbock match list if you want to see what PLFSOM will look like. You have to remember that Tech-El Paso isn't something totally new. It's been around for a while for the 3rd and 4th years of Tech-Lubbock. The only thing that has changed is the establishment of a 1st and 2nd year, which is judged by your Step I score. You are at no disadvantage what so ever.

Is anyone considering the MPH option? I emailed the contact about applying but she has yet to get back to me.

You have a long way to go till you hit that process. Rock Step 1, as well as your rotations, and you'll be just as competitive as any other candidate. The current third years average step was around 225, a tad above the national average, we also had as high as in the 260s. So the prerogative is with you regarding how far you go, where you go, etc. Step 1 is the equalizing factor. If you used your logic, people from Caribbean schools wouldn't match ROADS, and the Caribbean schools have established track records...

I am pretty sure today's rejection e-mail didn't surprise anyone, but I think it is hilarious that they sent it on valentine's day.

I'm a current third year doing the MD/MPH program. PM me if you have specific questions about the program. Also tell me who it was you contacted and I'll see if I can't track them down and help motivate them. Glad to have you guys on board!!! Welcome to PLFSOM everyone.

Ladies and gentlemen, I just informed Mr. Snelling that I will not be attending PLFSOM this summer. It was a very difficult choice. PLFSOM is an amazing school, and were it not for some family factors I'd be there with you. Best of luck to you all!
