so i called admissions to ask and unfortunately there was very little information she could give (as much as I pried) pretty much all the letter means is that the waitlist movement has slowed down SIGNIFICANTLY (was the word she chose to use) and they don't foresee enough movement to get to our names. Its not a rejection letter at all just an advisement letter

Did you get the letter today too?

Yeapp got the letter... Honestly i think I died a little. I called admissions and they said everybody on the wait list gets it... Irregardless of position on the list. The admissions officer did state that there is an unusually large number of applicants in the army wait list

I just got the acceptance call about 30min ago. I had almost given up. Don't lose all hope! Army 2016!

Congrats!!!! lol so did you get the "we dont anticipate" letter earlier today, die a little, then get the call, and feel lifted?? that'd be one heck of an emotional roller coaster ride

congrats loveplum.

Did anyone not get the "we don't anticipate letter"?

In relation to the other services?.. That wouldn't make much sense going off of the fact loveplums was no pref and was selected for Army. Wonder what they meant by large number of Army WL'ers- lol did they lose track of how many people they accepted into the WL and overdo it?

I havent seen anyone get rejected post interview (or at least no one posted on here) so it seems that everyone they interview gets either accepted or waitlisted (or alternate status though I havent seen many that post on here either) so if they decided to have an extra interview date that means more people on the WL but thats just from what I have seen and as stated before this years thread hasn't been as active

hey loveplums maybe you can help us clear something up.

Did you receive the dreaded letter at all? If you dont mind me asking.

thanks a bunch and congrats again. I still reallyyy hope to join you

Thanks everyone. It really means a lot.

EARG,
I did not receive the "we do not anticipate" letter.
I really hope that you and all waitlisters get to join me in August!:xf:

I know of another Air Force acceptance. The list is still moving slowly at this point.

Man... I really thought the army list was going to exhaust. Last year I heard it dipped even into the alternates. Quite unfortunate.

So, AMCAS opens tomorrow...is anyone planning to submit immediately, or are you planning to wait a little longer for a USUHS acceptance?

I'm hauling ass trying to get my app ready... but I won't be ready to submit for at least a couple weeks.

Admissions really had me fooled on expecting an acceptance. Every time I called admissions expressing my concerns over a slow waitlist movement, I was told to just be a little bit more patient and that I was fine and in a good position.

That "we don't anticipate" letter hit me like a brick wall. So now I've got at least a couple weeks until my LORs and transcripts are in order.

Needless to say, there is a giant fire lit under my ass right now!

I've been preparing to submit tomorrow, but I'm hesitant to spend so much money applying to a good number of schools with even the slightest possibility of getting in this cycle. I wish they would be more clear about our prospects...

The cost is definitely discouraging but I personally am going to submit once I feel ready to go. Keep in mind you can submit your AMCAS and it will be transmitted w/o your letters- and like most schools nowadays that send secondaries to everyone, you don't necessarily need your letters till them, so keep hauling.

P.S. Keep pushing!!.. just dropped $2800 myself to go back to take some classes at UW 😛 and regardless if by a miracle I get in, I feel like it'll be worth sticking to it and warming the brain back up. Again it's up to every individual to decide if they want to reapply, but keep in mind you got some time since they don't transmit till late June, so another week of contemplating wont hurt, I personally am all for just encouraging everyone to submit when ready since crummy thing to say is... not all of us might make it in this round - so be ready to jump the next bandwagon!

well said. At times its better to be realistic than optimistic. This is one of those times. Good luck to us all

If I was not accepted this year, I was going to wait a year and do more to fill in any rough spots in my application. I personally was going to retake the MCAT and either persue a Masters in Infectious Disease or Public Health, or just join the Air Force and gain experience as an officer.

Many of the people I met while interviewing had Masters and even PhDs already. And 50% of the students accepted to USUHS have military experience, and more than likely, LoR from their superiors.

If you think you didn't get in because you applied too late in the cycle, definitely apply again. But if you are not sure, and your application hasn't changed in some big way, you might want to work on it, or just make sure to apply to an entirely new set of schools.

Good luck everyone. :xf::luck:

This was one of the hardest decisions of my life, but I have withdrawn from a spot with the Navy and I hope it will open up a spot to make someone's dream come true.

Maybe the Navy or AF will exhaust and us army folk will have a shot at those spots?

negative side. All my coworkers just saw me cry like a baby.

Plus side. Acceptance to ARMY!!!!!!!!

Wow. Congrats! Looks like it's still moving. I guess I can have hope again since you got the letter too. This is really messing with my head... 😱

👍👍👍👍👍 Way to hang in there!! Congrats!!

lol ya I definitely agree jvqd this messes with my head too! - I'm still dropping $$$$ to take classes and submit my app once I'm ready. (anyone who is a yelp.com user might feel my pain as to not one $ but four....) 😛

I don't know about this year, but I got rejected last year after interviewing- no WL, no AL, no nothing. I got in this year off of the wait list. I wanted to be able to take the first available seat in class, regardless of service, so I chose to not have a preference. I was later informed that the list does not work that way. I got on the Army WL and got the acceptance call about 3 weeks ago.

I decided to check up on everyone tonight. Congratulations. I am so happy to see another SDN blogger earn an acceptance.

Good luck, see you in August.

Thanks all! I seriously wish you guys the best of luck!! Hope to see all you guys in August/July!

Hey guys,

I am looking for a roommate to share an apartment with next year. I am going to the MOST training on July 30th so I will need to find a place before then. I have been looking at places to live and would ideally like to be withing walking distance of the school or the metro. I am a non-prior going into the army after finishing a year of graduate school. I like hiking, biking, running, swimming, and am pretty pumped to go explore everything DC has to offer (after studying of course). I'm really excited about meeting everyone. PM me for more details about rooming.

What is the MOST training?

The acronym stands for Military Officer Survival Training. It's the class that anyone who missed the BOLC-B class (OBLC) will attend at USUHS before the start of school. It's training on everything we need to know to navigate the Army regulations, standards, and the chain of command.

I figured it was something like that... I guess that is one good thing about AF COT being so late in the summer. Good look with that and with finding a roomate!

This is interesting. Every time I call Raven Smith to ask about when our make up officer training is, I am told that they still have not figured out a date.

I got the call from Dr. Calloway about half an hour ago! I had almost completely given up! I am totally daunted by moving and meeting everyone, but I am super excited!

Hey side note - do we have a housing forum for USU going on anywhere?

I am 0% up on the neighborhoods/geography over there and don't know how to start choosing an apartment. Any suggestions?

I don't believe there is a housing forum. The Class of 2016 Facebook group has some current USUHS med students trying to lease their places, but not entirely useful. To start my search I used the search nearby feature on Google Maps and looked for nearby apartments. I also used Craigslist (you need to go to the DC city site then click on the Maryland subsection) and militarybyowner.com to find nearby listings. Military by owner sorts the houses by proximity to nearby bases.

You can take a bus or a metro rail pretty much anywhere. http://www.wmata.com/ has information on all the bus and rail schedules. The school is closest to the Medical Center station.

As far as price goes, I expect to pay over $2000 a month for a 2bd apt. It's pretty expensive. Just be wary of any deals that you may find. If the price is exceptionally good either the apartment is bad or the neighborhood in which the apartment is bad in most cases.

Hope this helps.

Hey everyone, try ahrn.com. The site has a lot of information on places to rent and buy and only military people can use it.

Also, I have heard these areas are nice to live in... Silver Spring, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown, and Bethesda. I was told by a student when I lived there to stay East of the 270 if buying a house, but I haven't checked up on it.

Anyone know the turnaround from getting accepted to hearing back about OBC or MOST from the army?
