when did you guys start hearing about interviews?

i submitted my app about a month ago (i know it's late), but i've had a interviews to all my schools i applied already except this and one other. not sure why not about this. well that one part of the secondary that was like describe how you are affiliated with the state of alabama, didn't have much to say there....

maybe that's why?

that'd be my guess. I didn't have any connections either, except that alabama and louisiana both border mississippi...
i got an II like, a month after I got my secondary submitted, think I attended like the second or third interview date though. Got my secondary in really early after I received it.

this is mr. Russ you so smart 😀 congrats

Whoa who is this..? Thank you Thank you.

I heard back from fairly quickly from UASOM, but I am also in-state. That may largely be the reason.

Also, being narcissistic in any way is a huge turnoff. Don't mention how smart you are, or how much more compassionate you are than some of the doctors you have shadowed (I know someone w/great stats who did this and got rejected).

The best piece of advice that I ever got was: don't ever compare yourself in an interview, you never know who you're comparing yourself to.

If your interviewer was a rockstar from John Hopkins or Yale with a 3.9, 42, that read to sick kids on the weekends or a highly renowned researcher (entirely possible at UAB), you just set yourself up for a comparison that most of us are going to fail (and let's be honest, most of would, myself included). So take the safe route, talk about yourself, not other people.

Accepted! :soexcited: :soexcited: :soexcited: :soexcited:
(At least I'm hoping it's not a mistake.)

For reference:
Complete: 8/24; Interview Invite: 10/19; Interview: 10/27; Acceptance: 11/18

i got this update yesterday...Remain Under Consideration for Interview

does that mean I'll be getting a call to schedule my interview soon?

Unfortunately, that's not what it means, although if they review you again soon maybe you will get a call soon.

It means that your application has been reviewed once and the AdCom is not ready to extend an interview right now, but you're not rejected either; it's kind of like a "hold for re-review" status I think.

I've had this status for about a month...

Yes, that's what it means. It generally means they will re-review your file near the end of the application cycle (probably Jan at the earliest, but more likely Feb-March). So go ahead and settle in for a wait.

Wow that was quick! This time last week both of us were moved to "Remain Under Consideration...". I assumed people waited a while to be offered an interview after being moved to that category.

^^^well I go to UAB and majoring in one of their harder major so I hope they like me 🙂. I hope you hear from them soon I was stoked after I got an email after working out.

do people that interview early have a higher chance of getting in? assuming they all submitted at the same time... I got the remain under consideration status which doesnt surprise me, but I received a fast interview invite and I have been wondering if that means anything ever since lol

Are you accepted? I assume that they interview people that may be a good fit for the school first.

Has anyone tried sending an "in the area" letter? If so, did it work for you? Also, for those of you with invites, what are the upcoming dates? Thanks in advance and good luck.

Complete:10/28 Invite: 11/8 Interview 12/1. Accepted 12/2

Has anyone gotten a campus assignment yet? No rush on my end, I was just curious to see whether they did assignments in batches or one-by-one. Happy holidays, everyone!

My application status says this now, too. Not sure when it changed but hopefully I will be receiving an II soon.

Looks like a few on here have heard back about an II fairly quickly. I was complete 11/15.

Yep, me too. Not sure exactly when it changed.. I gave up on checking every day. 😉

Status changed to accepted on 12/2 and still no campus assignment.

For those who already have campus assignments, were you assigned your first choice?

Sorry for the repost, but no one replied. I'll assume this doesn't apply to anyone if no one replies again:

u got accepted the next day? wow... are you OOS also assume your username is FSU

I am an in-state applicant. Current graduate student at FSU.

I was shocked by the next day acceptance as well. We were informed on interview day that the admissions committee meets to discuss your acceptance the same day (as soon as interviews conclude at 11:30).

Wow, UAB is efficient! That's awesome. The interviewers actually remember you since they present you on the same day...I like that.

ms2 here, if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

I didn't get accepted until mid-May (along with most of the rest of my class it seems), so if you haven't even interviewed yet, no worries!

That's interesting. I am currently on "remain under consideration" status a month after I submitted. If you don't mind me asking, did you have this status as well? If so, for how long? Thanks for your availability to answer questions!

Whats a ballpark estimate on when you submitted your materials and interviewed?

Are any of the NBME subject exams used during the first and second years? How much time are y'all going to get for Step 1 study?

Thanks for the insights.

For those of you who have been accepted, do you all mind telling your gpa/mcat, and if you are IS or OOS?

I submitted my applications and stuff basically ASAP. I can't remember the exact month. September maybe?? I interviewed in Febuary.

Are any of the NBME subject exams used during the first and second years? How much time are y'all going to get for Step 1 study? Is UAB really as cut throat of an environment as rumors suggest?

Thanks for the insights.

Not that I know of on your first question. Our exams are modeled after Step 1 questions though (with clinical vignettes, etc). They give us a pretty good amount of time to study for step 1, there is an entire module (6 weeks long if I'm not mistaken) just dedicated to Step 1. I think it's 50% mandatory attendance for that, probably just an hour or two a day.

I had remain under consideration status from like October until February when I received my interview invite.

thanks auburn05 for reassuring late interviews that we still have a chance

No problem, if you're ever really bored you can check out this thread and you can probably follow it back 4-5 years. It should give you a pretty good idea of timelines for acceptances, waitlists, etc.
