Hello Current students (Snake Oil or LimeTime??):
Could you talk about the anatomy instruction at Tucson and how long you work on cadaver or spend on basic anatomy? Is it integrated throughout the blocks or only part of the foundations block? Some schools seem to rush it in at the beginning and others seem to spread it out through a semester or longer.
Thanks!

Excuse my horrid typing - just had major shoulder surgery this week. Anatomy is integrated into each block. Ex - basic overview and skin in foundations, brain/head/spine in neuro, the bulk of dissect time in musculoskeletal (muscles, nerves, blood vessels in extremities), heart, lungs, kidneys in cardio/pulm/renal. Personally, I think this works well. You have 24 hour access to the lab, so you can spend as much time as you want for review. The guided dissections in class sessions are usually long enough to get through what you need to. There are plenty of teachers around to help during class. Let mw know if you have more ?s.

thanks for all your help limetime! get well soon 🙂

Thanks Limetime: I hope your surgery went well and that your recovery goes even better!

I am relieved to hear this. I prefer the integrated approach, plus I really like anatomy and dissections. . . very glad it is not treated like "something to get out of the way"

Can't wait for Second Look day.

Hey so has anyone heard anything about the new website? The deadline is tomorrow (or at least thats what I was told in an email), but I was curious if anyone knew differently.

Oh man nothing?? Wow I was completely wrong...I wonder how they will stack two dates in what's left of March??

Here is an update for everyone:

I just called the admissions office. Although there was no hint on when they will be sending out emails, they said to keep an eye out for the next few weeks bc there will still be 2 more rounds of acceptances. Also, the waitlist/reject list will be coming out in April. I know this doesn't really help to alleviate everyone's anxiety :/

Thanks so much for calling! I hate how vague they are...there are only two more weeks left in March! AHHH

In as well! Maybe this round is an OOS round because everyone including myself that has posted is OOS....found out about an hour ago 😀

well theres the "not selected this round" email... Hope I still have a shot in the final round!

+1

Congratulations to those who received a "you're in" email!

Did anyone from in state get accepted??

Congrats to all those who were accepted today! For those of you who did, did your email say anything about when the new student website would be available? Thanks!

anyone know how typical/atypical it is to be not selected in previous rounds only to be selected in a later round? i know it happens.. just wondering how common it is. in other words, looking for any glimmer of hope still! been through multiple acceptance rounds without an offer and it's truly disheartening

My friend got in today and we applied around the same time last year. So there is still hope but I am already studying for the MCATS again just in case.

When did you guys interview?

Interviewed in late January.

Congrats to all those who were accepted today! For those of you who did, did your email say anything about when the new student website would be available? Thanks!

It actually gave today's date but there's no link or anything on the e-mail. I'm guessing that there will be a follow up e-mail about this?

Does anyone have an estimation of how many people they have accepted so far?

Got accepted to U of A tucson today

IS
Interviewed at the end of January
PM session

they said the student website will be up 3/19 and second look will be 4/13

Just a heads up, the curriculum committee is planning on changing this in the near future by integrating all of the gross anatomy into one block in the fall semester of 1st year. This is how it is in the Phx campus. The main reason for this is to cut costs and the cadavers tends to smell towards the end of the year. This might not affect the class of 2016, but might affect future classes.

So it looks like they have accepted people from nearly every interview date...maybe now they will go back and look again for the final round?

wishful thinking :xf:

Still hopeful for a WL as well...from what I understand they have pretty good movement?

Congrats to all who got accepted! In the still under review emails they also talk about rejections being sent the end of March so does that mean they may still reject those who interviewed?

have they rejected anyone post interview so far? I get the impression they wait til the end of march to reject post interview.

I'm wondering if it will still be the end of March or if it will be early April for waitlist/rejections since it's basically end of March now...and there's still one more regular round of acceptances right? *sigh*

I called yesterday and I was informed that the WL/rejections will be sent in April.

Hey guys one of my friends who is Class of 2012 matched and he sent me this google maps link of all the people that matched for class of 2012.

Class of 2012: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=203728074421805969392.0004bba3b773c29bbfda5&msa=0

According to him approximately 105 people from class of 2012 participated in the match, ~95 out of 105 matched last monday with ~10 people were unmatched in the first round. They don't do scramble anymore but rather have a new system which is similar but have multiple rounds are all automated online. Out of the 10, 7 were able to match by match day on Friday last week, with 3 students currently unmatched. So that is a 97% match rate. Considering a 100+ student medical school, U of A had a really good match this year. According to my friend this year had the highest number of unmatched after 1st round (~10%), since usually its around 5% which is close to the national average, the main reason for this was the new match process this year and a lot of specialities like Emergency Med were 100% filled and Peds had the highest fill rate this year compared to previous years. Even with that this year U of A had a really good match with a lot of people getting into very good places for their respective specialties.

Not that I know but it makes sense for the WL/rejections to be after the last round. Hope to get some good news :xf:

Is anyone else having trouble logging on to the new student website?

They left a message on the facebook group last night saying that they had to sync something with their internal servers before anybody can log in, which hopefully will happen today.

Good to know.

Despite recieving email acceptance, paper acceptance, 3-5 emails with updates on upcoming website and 2nd look day, plus invitation to sign on to website with instructions. . . When I could not sign on to website I "concluded" that, yes, my acceptance was in fact an error and was meant to go to the other applicant on my same day with the same first name. Hubby affirms that this is a false conclusion, I agree, but secretly the fear still sits there.

This process = anxiety + doubt. Sigh.

Still can't believe it is happening and hope that the wait-listers get good news soon!!!

did you call admissions and confirm that it was an error?

The quotes around the word concluded were to indicate that it was, in fact, an imaginary conclusion. There was no error. The only error is in my imagination which is clouded with doubt and anxiety.

Can someone send me the link to the facebook site? Thanks!

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! For those of you who are planning on going to the college pretty much for sure should join the Facebook group I linked to below. I am currently a first year and I would be happy to answer any questions you have. (Please post on the facebook page since a lot of us hardly come on here)

Yay! I have been able to enter the class website. This event has once again convinced me that I was admitted and that it wasn't a mistake! 🙂 Shoo, Anxiety, shoo shoo away.

I'm on the FB group as an admitted 2016. . . (but under hubbies profile since I couldn't bring myself to start a facebook when myspace outdated about the day after I had finished finding all my old friends and uploading pictures there)

Anyone know how many ppl in the FB group are newly accepted applicants (and not current medical school students)?

anyone talk to admissions recently that can confirm another acceptance release this week? And hopefully WL will be next week?
