I actually tried just typing all of the characters that appeared in my essay by themselves, one by one, in the essay box and attempting to save. I thought the semicolon was causing me issues, but I was able to submit my application with the semicolons in (and the app saved with nothing but a semicolon in the essay box). Who knows.

Nice work! Who knows is right - getting that application to save was a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma.

Hey guys, does Tucson accepts more applicants than Phoenix? I know that Phoenix is newer, but will ppl apply more here b/c its a larger city?

Phoenix resident. Just got the secondary. One of my last ones to come in!

For the question, "Given your path to medicine, how do you plan to contribute to the Phoenix community?", did you answer how you would contribute to the class? Or how you would serve the literal community of Phoenix as a physician? Not sure how I want to approach this one, just wanted to hear how you guys read it.

Ya, this is the hard question. I saw this question in Cooper, Commonwealth, and somewhere else, and I just tackled it by talking about the community and the problems there, how I'll be able to help out as a MD student, not as a physician. I mean, who knows whether you'll still be in Phoenix or New Jersey or Scranton after you start residency? That's why I didn't focus on as a physician part, but on the as a medical student part.

When you received the secondary, where do you get the Signature Verification Form that needs to be mailed in?

Nevermind. I read the instructions again...

Once you submit the secondary, the signature page will load for you to print and it will be emailed to you in case of Tucson.

PHX requires you send in a signature page tooo? with another check or can we pay online?

Just like Tucson (which I mailed yesterday), Phoenix requires you to get a signature page, check/money order (no online payment), and a passport size photo mailed in to their office. Nothing online!!!

AGGGGG fer serious?

How much is the secondary fee?

How many of you were tempted to say about Tree Fiddy?

I didn't have any issues when I tried to submit the application, but now that it's done, all of my apostrophes turned into weird characters, and the last word of one of my essays was cut off (word count was fine in Word but the app boxes don't calculate it correctly). Anyway, should I email admissions to tell them what the last word is supposed to be? Or just forget about it? I'm sure lots of people will turn in their essays with this kind of stuff since the system is so funky.

Anyone get a complete notification yet? I sent my signature page and such last week and haven't heard anything yet!

Admissions said they are processing the payments this week, so complete e-mails will start coming in the next few days.

No. They said it's happening to a lot of students and not to worry.

Oops. I replied before reading your entire post. Considering you missed a word, it can't hurt to forward the info.

Haven't received a secondary yet (they received my primary July 22nd). I am in-state. But, supposedly another batch of secondaries are coming out at the end of the week.

So I just F$%^ed up right now and deleted my secondary invitation from UA PHX.😱 I dont want to seem like a fool but how should I go about getting the URL from them. Should I call the Admissions office or what? I dont want to seem like a complete idiot. Anyone got a suggestion?

Nevermind I found it. Thank goodness my email server saves all my messages.

I seriously want to know who designed that secondary website...

Same, I heard back from Tucson today after sending them on Monday, but nothing from Phoenix. I tried calling but they aren't answering the phone 😕

Awesome. I think we should start hearing something soon though. Last year interview invites started about now

I sent in all of my stuff this past Monday and got an email this afternoon from the Phoenix campus saying they received everything.

Got the 'complete' email this afternoon

secondary submitted, now have to mail the signature form and check :xf:

I've got a good feeling about this upcoming week - c'mon interview invites!

Does anyone know if the educational programs (BIG, or CUP) are offered on both campuses?

I was screened in for the secondary yesterday. I got the AMCAS received email from them on July 25.

Good luck to all those still waiting for the secondary!

Awesome - welcome aboard!

I was so excited this morning because I had an email from UA-Phx, but it was just a reply from them telling me they added the last word to one of my essays that got cut off on the webpage.

Oh well, at least the last sentence of my essay makes sense now. 🙂

Pretty fast turn around time. Are you in-state?

Does anyone know if one needs to have the LORs uploaded in order to receive a secondary? I wondering if I should submit now or wait until my LORs are uploaded.

Best of luck with the season, dudes and dudettes. Feel free to hit me, any of the other second years, or the newly minted first years up with any questions or comments. We're looking forward to seeing you around school!

I called today to ask them about this, but the person I spoke to did not give me a definitive answer one way or another. He said medical students serve underprivileged Hispanic, Native American, and rural populations in Arizona, but he also seemed completely clueless about the page on their website (Tucson + Phoenix) that lists those programs like BIG and CUP, or what those programs were.

If anyone else has a better answer for this, I would appreciate it as well.

Hey guys,

Yes, both schools certainly have several CUP programs in place. I'm not sure about BIG - this is certainly a Tucson thing and is probably offered at Phoenix as well, but I haven't participated in it personally and it may be more a part of the MPH program (many students do a combined degree, and most still do it in only four years).

CUP is awesome. I'm not actually sure how many programs are now in place at Phoenix, but it seems like new ones are popping up all the time. We have many that are ongoing, such as the most-popular Wesley Center (student-run clinic), as well as Planned Parenthood, TarWars (anti-tobacco education), a program tutoring middle school students, another teaching health and nutrition to high school students, a health-mobile health-on-wheels program, a teen pregnancy center program, CPR training and teaching, etc. (sorry, I participate heavily in a few and don't even know the names of others!) - these are only the ones I can remember off the top of my head but there are others. There are also many CUP opportunities that pop up during the year and take place once or twice annually, including kids health fairs, special events through Wesley Center, and some other random ones (like this past year we participated in the "Ask a Med Student" event at Body Worlds in the AZ Science Center, which was a ton of fun). Additionally, if you think of a good way to serve the community that isn't currently being done, you can always start a CUP program yourself! CUP is great because it allows you to practice the skills you are learning in school (especially Doctoring and LCE) while also volunteering and giving back to the community (and add to your CV!). You can also build up enough CUP credit to receive one or two weeks elective credit in MS4 year and possibly graduate with a Distinction in Community Service.

I hope this helps!

received the secondary today...OOS...but never got the AMCAS received email though..did that happen to anyone else?

Certainly does. Do you thing it would be foolish to list your interest in B.I.G. in the PHX secondary?

Hey, all.

I'm a current MS2 at UACOM-P. I haven't been around these parts that much lately, but I'll try to be around more often. Also, if you have any q's, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to get back to ya.

Good luck! :luck:

Does UA Phoenix have a rural health professions program or a rural health track like UA Tucson does?

Does anyone know if there are programs here that deal with med students getting involved/active in legislature to build more clinics or help with health care access in some of the underserved Phoenix areas?

Hey all. I was hoping someone could help me out with the about you section. I am a reapplicant but this is my first time applying to UA-PHX. I was wondering if I should fill out the section that asks what I have done since the last cycle to improve my application. I would call the office, but its too late now and it is also the weekend but I want to submit the application and mail the other materials tomorrow.

Thanks

I don't know the answer to this question but I wanted to praise you on your goals. It's amazing how varied medical paths can be, and your post reminded me that we can really aim to help people and make potentially make a real difference 🙂 Good luck on the cycle!!
