Holy eff, UCLA! Has anyone seen the "disadvantaged information"--which is longer than the secondary? Also, see language:

"You must be able to provide, on request, sufficient documentation to verify all information. If after you review the questions on the form and decide that you do not qualify for disadvantaged consideration, you may withdraw your request for disadvantaged consideration by following the instructions at the bottom of the form."

Honestly, I can't dig back as far as they want me to. I don't care about being considered disadvantaged by UCLA, but as far as they've stated, my withdrawal of that status would indicate that I'd "decided I do not qualify." It's not that I don't think I qualify; I just don't mind being considered nondisadvantaged ("advantaged"?) in lieu of not having to submit all that info. I think this is a matter of pride and rhetoric.

On another note, I haven't really fulfilled their requirements either (even with APs), but I figured what the hell. I didn't fulfill the requirements for some of the schools I've gotten interviews at, and they've all just kinda been like "whatever." Not that there aren't non-science majors who don't fulfill the most rigid of requirements, but still...

Anyhow, debating what to do. Right now, my options are: 1) submit really incomplete info that doesn't even fit into some of their criteria (there are no free text fields for explanation), 2) withdraw the disadvantaged status from UCLA (which might indicate that I believed I didn't qualify), or 3) withdraw my app from UCLA altogether.

Where did you see the disadvantaged information? Is it in the secondary?? I can't find anything about disadvantaged status... Anyone?

Never mind, I found it. Wow, they want me to tell them how much my parents made throughout my life?? 😱

Hey everyone,

What are you guys/gals using for the most important non-academic activity?
I want to use teaching/tutoring because I have about 5 years of employment in it, but would it fall under academic? It's academic for my students, but not for me haha... Should I call just to make sure? Thanks.

Tutoring seems academic to me. I will probably use distance running (hobby)

About the 'most important honor' question...does it have to be scholastic? If so, I've got dean's list and...uh, that's it.

I wonder if I could be creative with this question... "I have had the honor of doing [blah, blah, blah] "

seems like it could be anything, i'm gonna write about community service awards i got from my undergrad institution

if there's anything else you can put, sports/hobbies/clubs/etc...

Keep in mind the instructions
Please only provide information you believe is important. It is not necessary or required to supply information in all sections.

Actually, I didn't realize that it was under the "Scholastic Activities" category. But the question itself didn't mention what type of honor it has to be other than "most important". Does anyone have an opinion on that? My award in community service was given by my undergrad, and it's definitely more important to me than my dean's list awards. I really do want to use it, anyone have a strong opinion for or against it?

Sounds great man, go for it!

May all neurotic premeds be rejected with the swiftness of Usain Bolt. Thats all I have to say for now.

Yeah I'm sure you're not neurotic at all 🙂

:meanie: much love😍

Lol not nearly as neurotic as the nutcases on this board. Usually people lacking in intellect compensate with competitiveness and neuroticism. In other words, i dont have to be neurotic to be academically successful, unlike many premeds on sdn.

Hilarious, what makes you so sure you've got the intellect you claim?

Do you have any idea how competitive and neurotic you sound?

I said this to you in some other thread, but best of luck, man. I honestly hope you do well, for your confidence's sake.

Haha i seem to have struck a nerve. Guilty conscience?

We're all guilty of neuroticism guys, let's try and chill 😛 :luck:

So if we put "no" saying that we haven't completed one of the pre-reqs they assume we'll complete it before matriculating right? Don't really see what the point of that section is.

Here's a protip: On your interview day, you'll get a piece of paper instructing you to indicate any pre-req deficiencies you plan on taking throughout the upcoming year... So no, you definitely don't have to be finished before applying.

I have to agree with this one. Not only do SDNers give me diarrhea, but they also make me worry about the future of medicine. I can't believe these annoyingly neurotic weirdos are gonna be physicians in the future. robosapiens.

so this might be a dumb question but is the UCLA/Drew 5 year program an entirely seperate application than applying to UCLA Geffen or does the UCLA secondary ask if you are interested in the UCLA/Drew program?

Thank you in advance!

I believe it's an entirely separate program, though the CDU students do their preclinical classes at UCLA. You'll have to designate UCLA/Drew on your AMCAS application. Also, it's a 4-year program. Are you thinking about UCLA-PRIME? That's a 5-year program but I think you also have to apply separately (please correct me if I'm wrong, it's been awhile since I've looked at AMCAS!) Good luck. :luck:

Thank you for the info! yes I was thinking of the PRIME program...i assume these programs are that much more competitive? I am not a cali resident 🙁

This link may be helpful. The admissions for UCLA and UCLA-PRIME are entirely separate, so it's only a question of whether you'd like to apply. I'm not sure if it's necessarily more competitive per se, but the class size is very small and they clearly are looking for people with a commitment to serving the under-served. Good luck!

Thank you sharpie! All that info was great! I wish you the best of luck also 🙂

Submitted the secondary today :luck:

"Has there been a gap greater than one year between achieving your baccalaureate degree, and/or consecutive degrees before applying to medical school? (yes or no). If yes, please explain."

I graduated the summer of 2010 and am applying for medical school now, do I answer this question or not? I will have had 2 years off after college if I start med school next year...

I'm in the same position. If I follow the prompt to the letter, then yes, it would be approximately 1 year and 6 days from graduation to AMCAS submission. 😎

Technically I am under a year after graduation, but I don't know if they just want to know what I've been doing since graduation, or ONLY if I've taken 1+years off...kind of a weird question. Any other opinions?

verified on the 5th, received all UCs except UCLA. AGH

Could someone actually post the questions. I'm surprised it hasn't been done already. Thanks!!!!

You have to become a donor to SDN in order to delete posts, so you can just edit a post to say "deleted" or whatever if you change your mind about posting.

Welcome, and good luck to you too!

I got a secondary last year. I wonder why this is taking so long...

For those working on the secondary, do you feel that it would be appropriate to discuss a completely non-medical hobby for the first question - "Describe involvement in the ONE most important non-academic activity that has been important in your life"

I feel like having to pick the single most important activity outside of academics is a lot of pressure! Would they be unimpressed by listing a hobby?

Actually, I ended up picking the ONE activity I couldn't write specifically about anywhere else on their application. And I don't see why a hobby couldn't make the cut...

The "problem" question has me stumped at the moment. It's so open-ended it feels awkward.

Just got the secondary about a minute ago. But it's soooo longgggg

I also just got the secondary, but it ended up in my Junk Mail for some reason

anyway someone could put a date verfiied/date recieved combo for the secondary?
