It was an awesome day wasn't it! I didn't get a chance to catch up after my interviews so I'm glad yours went well (after I saw you when I was walking back after my first one). Was totally impressed with this school, too bad we have to wait so long to hear back about it.

What really stood out to me was just how relaxed everyone was with us and each other. Beyond that, most friendly school yet!
Hi OldMan -
how long did they say you'd have to wait to hear back?

Did they also mention any advantages to applying earlier? I remember a medical student posting that it made no difference, but I wonder...

They explained the review process to us during orientation, and it's pretty extensive. So for the most part, they said it will be a few months and to expect some news around the holidays in December. It's rough though, would love to hear sooner, but SF is worth the wait. 🙂

I'm sorry to hear that 🙁

Was this pre-secondary or post?

pre-secondary. I am going to appeal.

good luck :luck:

No longer in the running. Post-secondary. This process requires some luck and I'm starting to understand...

I haven't received anything but rejections from the 20 schools I'm complete at, and applied to four more because I was afraid I wouldn't get in anywhere. Then, out of nowhere, status update email from UCSF. FIRST INVITE! Soooo excited!!! November 1 scheduled!

Nice. When were you complete? Mind sharing stats?

Yay!!! Received Secondary! I totally thought I was not going to get one. This has got to be the scariest email in my inbox so far. I thought it was a rejection. All the other schools at least tell you that you have received a secondary but not just like this:

"An update has been made to the status of your UCSF School of Medicine application. Please visit your Application Status page for more information."

This is my dream school! Hopefully they find my profile interesting for an interview.

Any MSTP applicants mind posting their prompts if they're any different?

Cheers.

Here they are:

Research Experience (List the research projects on which you have worked below. If you have answered these questions on the AMCAS application, you MUST also answer them on this application for our records. You may use the same responses for our application.)

Research Description (I think it's a 500-word limit..but not sure since I already completed the secondary)

Publications

Research Training Plans (250 words limit i think)

Thanks a bunch! Is the research projects prompt an applet that allows you to add projects without limit, like Emory's? Or is it just a text box?

I'm OOS, they received my AMCAS on 7/27 and I've heard nada... sure seems like a long time to not receive the secondary

Yeah np. It was just a plain text box. I am not sure whether it had any limit. I used about 1200 chars.

Thanks man. And Good luck!

Does anybody know what's the lowest MCAT UCSF accepted (as in accepted to their medical school) in the past years?

Hey, does anyone know how many interview applicants are accepted to UCSF? I keep getting info of the amount that matriculate, but that's not what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance.

I don't believe that's the correct answer. The shaded bar indicates the 10 - 90% range.

According to USNews, OOS interviewees were accepted at a rate of 56% last year. Unfortunately didn't jot down IS info before the free week ended...

Are you supposed to receive a complete email from UCSF? That last email I had was the "secondary submitted and payment received."

My friend went to UCSF for interview recently, and he (he or she, just using he cuz it's easier) was impressed by the school.

Finally rejected last night after receiving the initial email mid-july. What a great way to start the weekend! let's just say Rebecca Black helped me get through. Good luck to everyone else!

So true, my friend (who is more qualified than me) got rejected here as well. He's in-state, but he also got invites at Harvard, UPenn, and Yale. That was enoguh to convince me that there is a significant luck factor involved.

Just got my secondary invite! That was the most intimidating email ever! (verified: 8/5, application received by UCSF: 8/8)

I feel like another "batch" of II is on it's way?!

...check your statuses! II!! I didn't get a status update email and just checked the website after my sdn post and there it was!

Nervous that this might be my first interview!

App complete 8/18, but my status still remains the same.

Congrats! This is my first interview date too 🙂 Let's hope we're naturals from the get-go!!

II! got an email about status update, expected the worse but they decided to see me! I'm really glad UCSF is giving me a chance. First IS invite 😀. Complete 8/14

I will rephrase my original statement then. Its stupid to apply to UCSF with a 32, let alone a 30.

*It's stupid to apply to UCSF with a 32, let alone a 30.

Unfortunately, even an MCAT score above 32 is no guarantee that an applicant can write a basic sentence using proper grammar.

My friend got invited with a 29.

Is that stupid he applied?

I don't think it's stupid to apply with a 29, if all other credentials are strong. I was criticizing the other poster who insisted that anyone with lower than a 32 MCAT is stupid to apply to UCSF. Someone who worships MCAT scores as the ultimate sign of intelligence should be able to construct a sentence without a fundamental writing error.

Yeah, sorry wasn't criticizing you. Was directing it to the other poster about his logic he formulated in his brain about MCAT scores as well.

Status update Tuesday night. Totally thought it was going to be a rejection, but alas, an interview! Couldn't believe it.

Complete 8/2, so if you feel like you've been waiting forever, don't give up hope! 🙂

EDIT: FYI--the status update came at 10:30PM. From looking through the forum, it looks like it's prob good news if you get an update at this time!

Haha, several months later and we're still collectively shaking our heads at that stat-gunner. Hope this is a good sign of the types of students UCSF attracts... good luck guys! :luck:
