I'm glad I'm not the only one getting stir crazy, here!

I think March 9 was the big day for the last class (if my memory serves correct). So, maybe it will be around the first week? Just hoping/speculating...

I hope you are right. 🙄

Yeah last year's thread had their big day on the 9th.

I just called the admissions office about interviews tomorrow and they are definitely on...regardless of the weather. Safe travels to all!

I hope that everyone interviewing today got to campus safe and sound—it’s pretty bad out there. 🙂

So much snow! I was walking to work, on campus, and saw one of the interviewees slip and fall on the ice! (She was okay.)

Snow Day Lesson #1: Don't walk around in heels, even for an interview.

Do people here know if interview invites are finished now? THanks!

From what I recall, today was supposed to be the final interview date, so I would think so, although I recall someone mentioning they added one extra date. (Even so, I would think they've already made all of their invitations for that date as well.) Sorry, although I could always be wrong!

A student mentioned yesterday that we were the second to last interview date. I think the one after us is on 2/13/12, but I could be wrong.

Hey recent interviewees! Did the admissions staff happen to mention any numbers (accepted, etc.) at your interviews?

Accepted 1.30.12, interview 1.6.12. Complete 10.10.11. So excited!!!!

Any other out of staters accepted? What do ya'll think about the price tag etc? I'm trying to join the fb group but I haven't been accepted...Maybe there's an essay, interview and test involved 😛

UC seems incredible. Thanks for pm'n me bassvp.

Me. The price tag is INSANE. Looking forward to seeing you on the group!

I am an accepted out of stater too. I know, the price is daunting! But, the school is amazing! I was awarded the presidential scholarship and I think they are giving out more of them so that can help reduce cost. In addition, there are scholarships that you can apply for. The link is on the accepted student site I think.

But regardless of price, I think fit is super important. On my interview day, I met some current students who had the choice between their state school and Colorado and chose Colorado despite the oos tuition because it's so awesome so that's gotta tell you something! 🙂

Congrats on the scholarship! Is it merit-based? And did it come with your admissions offer or later?

Thanks! To be honest, I am not completely sure how this scholarship is decided upon. I was very surprised and grateful though. It did not come with my admissions offer. I was accepted on Dec 21 and received the email about the scholarship on Jan 19 so it was almost a month after.

Congrats on your acceptance btw! 🙂

So do we non-interview folks get officially rejected on Friday? Bets on the day, anyone?

Last year the pre-interview rejections went out the day before the last interviews. When's the last interview date?

Just got an interview invite this afternoon! So excited!!! 🙂

Last day of interviews Feb 13th, confirmed by the admissions office.
🙁 for me and :luck: to all interviwees!

Sorry to hear that! I hope one of your other schools turns out. Did you interview anywhere else? CU admissions are kind of a tricky thing, but I'm sorry you weren't even offered an interview. Best of luck elsewhere!

I am appreciative of the CU admissions process, and maybe will apply again depending on things in the future...interviewed at UCF, and loved that school being there felt right. Please, enjoy your studies and things...

So does this mean for sure that if we haven't received an interview invite we are doneskies???

This is a very good questions, what if some people cancel on Feb 13th? Would they open a new interview day? I invite you to email this to the admissions office, and let us know...okay?

Wow man, I checked out your MDApps and that's just harsh. You have a stunning post-bac GPA and an acceptable MCAT for the kinds of schools you applied to. You applied broad. You did everything right, and it's like no love for the Californians. I have no medical schools in my state and I think I have an easier time than you and your California brethren. 🙁

If the UCF thing doesn't work out, keep trying next year. You deserve some interviews at least.

:luck::luck::luck:

How come? I'd be interesting in hearing what you like about it.
CU is a pretty awesome school and they have a super sweet admissions staff. (How many other schools send out their Director of Admissions to regularly talk with students at schools all over the region and have an adcom member that meets with students 1-on-1 all over the state every month to discuss their progress, improvements needed to make their app competitive, etc. and then reports back to the adcom when the time comes to encourage interviews for those students?)

Unfortunately, I kind of doubt it, but ya never know! Hopefully. I'm rootin' for ya!

I like the feel of the layout - the med ed building promotes collabortaive learning and has lots of common spaces. Also, there is a two reserach institutes that offer laboratory spaces and investigators to work with...This university is still building itself, and so there is a lot of room for students to have large presences, and truly be themselves in taking part in the medical education. The admissions staff is very welcoming and inviting, and seems to be interested in helping students become the physician they want to be, not what UCF wants them to be and I really sense this is a positive influence.

Gotcha. The campus and program are amazing. I didn't know if there were certain aspects of the admissions process you really liked since you said you "appreciated the CU admissions process." Good luck with your other schools, though. Hopefully, you'll get into one that fits you well!

Hope everyone's interviews went well today!
Did the admissions staff happen to drop any hints as to when they would be giving out the final round of post-interview decisions for everyone who is waiting to hear back?

I like that CU looks for the hardships in applicants. Also, they are very conscious of brevity when communicating with email. Just by reading the admissions wording on their website I feel that theirs is a conversational and down-to-earth program - without sacrificing clinical and academic excellence. I would appreciate visiting and absorbing the campus atmosphere too! And you too, I hope a school with your fit accepts you in.

YES! Interviewees: please feel free to drop some statistics if the admissions staff gave them to you today!

According to a contact on the adcom, as of about a month ago, they were right around 15% of the offers given (~50). It sounded like they are still planning to release the other 80-85% after March 1. I would suspect they will fill the class by the end of March, so release approximately 30-35% of their offers (~100) in March and then make the other 50% of the offers (~150) as people turn down CU to go elsewhere. That would likely still put us at 40-50% offers in the TBD pile as of April 1. Just my speculation based on what I am hearing from several people, though. If anyone can confirm or deny any of that, it'd be great to hear!

huh?

Rejected. Closure at last. Good luck to those still waiting and to the apparently lucky few that have been accepted thus far! :luck:

Yup! Valentine's rejection.

Hopefully my latest MCAT results are a little more forgiving this month.

Yeah 🙁 Dr. Winn and Dimple actually both discussed how we were a "special" group and the 16th interview day was added so we could all get a chance to interview at CU... I still don't know if that was a positive thing. We're getting lumped in with the rest of the people who interviewed though: about ~700 altogether. There was only a handful of IS students; pretty much everyone else was from alllllll over the country. No joke, we had every region covered.

I found this on the website: "By mid to late March, the Admissions Committee emails a confirmation to all candidates placed on the waiting list. Our alternate list is not ranked allowing us to continue the holistic review process we are committed to. In other words we review applicants several times in comparison to the applicant pool before making any admissions decisions. On a yearly basis we generally make from 250 to 270 total acceptance offers before classes begin in August. Historically we have accepted 50-60 candidates from this list."

I don't know how likely these numbers are to repeat themselves, but yesterday they were throwing out numbers like 270-300 acceptance offers. I feel like they'll be able to keep it on the lower end if it's as competitive a cycle as everyone's saying. Especially since CU is well, amazing. Also, if last year's last interview date was 2/18 and the big decision day was 3/9, I think that 3/1 is probably a good correlating day. Probably. Really, I have as much clue as the next applicant, which is to say...none.

btw, as a relative latecomer to this thread, I was just skimming and saw the rumblings about Dr. Winn possibly leaving. Some girl asked straight up during the Q&A session yesterday if this was true, and he laughed it off. He admitted when he gets offers from schools he'll take a look to be fair, so he did visit some. But he said it reinforced his decision to stay at CU and he joked that he'd be around until they boot him.

Sounds about right to me, though I think if they accept ~270/700, that puts us below the 40% accepted mark. If that includes people who are waitlisted prior to acceptance, well...those aren't the friendliest odds. Also, they said we should hear back in the next two weeks for straight accepts. No one gets rejected after only one review.

Sorry for the massive post but I hope that helps. Good luck everyone! :luck::xf:

Thanks for all the info! And sorry about the recent rejections. Hang in there and I hope y'all get accepted somewhere else.

IS 3.7 33 non-trad: rejected pre-interview.

Received interviews at a few top private schools. Is there anyone who is very familiar w/ what CU is looking for vs. another school and might be able to discuss these issues w/ me in case I need to reapply next year? Also, anyone know if CU will give personal feedback if you requested?
