You are interviewing on 2/6? They gave me a choice of either 1/27 or 2/3 and I have other interviews on those days so I could not make it. I asked if 2/3 was the last interview date they had and she said yes, now I feel lied to. Oh well, not much I can do now, I already withdrew my application.

Might have even the last date they could offer you. CU is one of those schools that is competitive enough they don't always seem to feel they need to be super accommodating. They are an amazing school with an awesome if overworked admissions team.

I wonder if there is any correlation whatsoever between interview date and probability of being offered an acceptance in March…probably not. Any thoughts?

I can't be entirely sure, but I don't think so. As Lingo Laine said, mass decision emails were sent out on March 9 last year.

Check out the thread here: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=728348&page=9

You'll notice that people were accepted from a whole range of months. One of my friends was interviewed on one of the earliest dates and didn't find out until March. No waitlist or anything. CU definitely has one of the most unpredictable systems. Damn ninja adcoms. 😛

I am out-of-state and have been patiently waiting for news but have still have not heard anything from CU. Does anyone know - is it permissible to call the admissions office to display my continued interest? CU is my dream school, and I'm afraid they don't realize how important their school is to me since I'm OOS.

Anyone have any good ideas to how I can show my sincere interest in this school before they stop interviewing for this cycle? :xf:

MedicalScribe, I sent an update/interest letter a week and a half ago. Today, I got a call inviting me for an interview but she only gave me the interview date of this Friday because they don't have that many slots left. Unfortunately, I can't attend on such short notice...but I would definitely express interest, it may just pay off. I'm out of state too, btw.

I didn't realize updates were accepted- I remember reading something saying that they don't, but I guess that's not true! Which email address did you send this to?

Wow, that's great! I'm sorry you aren't able to attend, but it is really kind of you to share your experience. Maybe if I send them an E-mail (since a letter will take too long to arrive), they might have a chance to squeeze me in! 🙂

Thank you. 🙂

CU expressly states that they do NOT accept pre-interview updates. I imagine your interview invite after the letter was a coincidence. Congrats though! 🙂 It's too bad you can't attend.

Oh woops, I guess it was a coincidence. I sent it by e-mail, and just checked and they never responded to it. My bad!

I had not thought of it that way. Thanks.

Maybe today's interviewees can give the rest of us an update! 🙂

You guys think that those of us w/ out interview invites are out of the running?
GPA=3.7 MCAT=33 IS Non-Trad

You've probably got a week or two tops to keep holding out hope for an interview. Seems like pretty good preliminary stats to not be getting an interview...

I have the same stats and am also an IS non-trad, and I interviewed in December. It's not the numbers, must have been a late app or weak ECs. There's still a bit of time for an invite, though!

I'm pretty sure I'm out of the running for this year. 26P (yup, bad test day in July. Not enough time to retake it for this application cycle), 3.85GPA, but 5 years clinical exp, with 4 years clinical research exp. I just retook the the MCAT today, and am hoping for the best. Feeling like I pulled a 30-32. I just don't want to wait another year as a non-trad.

I submitted my secondary in the last week of september. Do you think that was too late? I have recieved a couple interview invites from private schools and I think my ecs are pretty unique and decent, but who knows? Thanks for the responses.

Hey Makauzi, if you are still following this thread sorry for the confusion. I am actually interviewing on 2/3, not 2/6.

Also would someone who already interview be so kind and share any advice about the 2 one-on-one interviews. In particular what questions to expect. Do they ask the why CU question? And also is the interview open file, closed file, or something in between.

I believe it's closed file and then they see your scores and such at lunch after the interviews. I wouldn't know what to tell you for the interviews, it's always very dependent upon the individual interviewing you. You should always expect the "why CU [or whatever school]?" question whenever you interview...and if it's not asked directly, you still need to make a way to answer that question. My personal experience is that my first interviewer asked me to mostly share my timeline (since I'm a non-trad) and we elaborated things along the way. My second interviewer asked almost all "describe a time when you..." questions. But I imagine that someone else's two interviewers may have had two completely different approaches than mine. My suggestion would be to stop preparing for certain questions or a certain interview style and simply prepare to be yourself as best you can. 😀

For those who have interviewed recently, does Dr. Winn still make an appearance; and if so, does he mention that this is his last year at CU? A few months back there was some talk about him going to Stanford.

Always know the "why this school" question! If you don't know the answer to this question, do a little research before your interview day. The interviewers have access to your PS,secondary essays, and your activities. No grades or scores. That being said, if there is something surprising in your grades or scores and needs to be mentioned, bring it up in your interview. In terms of what questions, everyone's interviews will be different. I will say that my interviews were both really laid back. My interviewers were genuinely interested in getting to know me. I also found that I could kind of direct what direction my interview was going. For instance, I have had a lot of research experience and when my interviewer asked me to tell her about myself I talked a lot about that aspect of my life and so a lot of her questions were geared toward research, why i liked, why i didn't etc.

Focus on being natural and stay true to who you are and you will do just fine. Good luck!!

It is an OPEN file interview. Not sure if they see your scores though. My interviewer had gone though my application very thorougly and written down a page full notes that he wanted to discuss with me.

They don't see your grades or your MCAT

Before they meet with you, the interviewers have access to your personal statement, Colorado essay, and your list of extracurriculars. My interviewers were very familiar with my file -- one of them told me that he had spent the weekend poring over my application.

Immediately after they meet with you, the interviewers rate you on six different criteria (i.e. maturity, familiarity with the practice of medicine, etc.), which generates a score. Only after that score is assigned, are they allowed to see your MCAT scores, grades, letters of recommendation, etc., and they then rate you again on a bunch of additional criteria (quality of your essays, your coursework load, science background, letters of recommendation, etc.). Based on those criteria, they assign you a second score.

When the committee meets (usually later that same day), one of your interviewers presents you to the committee and the other contributes his/her own information and impressions. I don't know how the scores they've assigned you factor in during that process, but somehow the entire committee then assesses you and you end up ranked in relation to other applicants.

After each adcom meeting, they've offered admission to just a few candidates. I can only assume these were somehow the top-ranking candidates they were confident would end up in the "admit" pile even after all candidates have been reviewed. CU emphasizes that they look at your application MANY times, so I believe each adcom meeting somehow reanalyzes these rankings in relation to the most recently interviewed candidates. Once all interviews have been conducted, they finalize their rankings and offer admission to a certain number of applicants, and waitlists or rejections to the remainder.

There's a pretty thorough description of the whole process on their web site: http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/c...cation/Admissions/apply/Pages/Interviews.aspx

Thanks all: Kumabear, haloscheif, linglain, Balck Knight and bassvp. Wouldn't mind being in the same incoming class with you all. I appreciate your consideration and support.

The one thing I will say is even though they aren't really supposed to, both my interviewers asked me my gpa, mcat etc. But both also clearly had read my file extensively and my interviews went well.

Side note: I interviewed with you lingolane and wanted to congratulate you! You were super nice and really deserve it 🙂!

That is unusual. I think the question most people get is, "Will there be any surprises when I see your GPA and MCAT?" So equalizer, be prepared to answer that question.

Equalizer-- I had no questions about my GPA/MCAT, but did have one ethical question about a high-cost medicine. There are about a million different interviewers, all with different styles, so I would just make sure you know your application well and prep for a wide range of questions.

Nope! Guess they added another day after 2/3...was lucky enough to get the II recently. I was pleasantly shocked 🙂 OOS.

Hi all -- just letting you know that I was offered an interview this morning for Feb. 13th...so that must be the extra date they added!

Good luck!

Anyone think some acceptances will go out this Friday for the January interviews?

Can any current students (or in-the-know applicants) discuss opportunities in global and public health? Are there ways to get involved beyond CU's 'tracks'? Is there an option for an MD/MPH? Will CU allow you to obtain your MPH at another institution (Harvard, Hopkins, Columbia, etc.)?

I just called the admissions office about interviews tomorrow and they are definitely on...regardless of the weather. Safe travels to all!

do you know when is the big day tho? is it march 31st?
