+2 IS, complete mid/late august, 32,3.6c/3.79s, I'm hoping there is a second round of invitations after they begin to accept people on the 15th. I wonder if they have filled most of their interview days for the next couple of months at this point though....

Info session at CU-Denver last night: They have only had 4 out of 15 interview days. Still early in the cycle for them. Not time to panic yet.

Thanks 79! That is definitely some reassuring information.

not sure i'm in state or OOS haha...i recently moved to MN (3 months ago) and technically changed my legal residence from colorado, but since i haven't been here a year i'm not sure where i'm considered IS. so we'll see...i did already get an interview at U of MN but i don't know if they consider me IS or OOS.

Does Colorado send an email saying your file's complete?

This is my status
09/06/2011 We have received your secondary application payment and have begun processing your completed application. The final status for most applicants will not be decided until March 31.

submitted 8/30, got an email 9/1 thanking me for my submission but it was sent from patel dimple to patel dimple with me bcc'ed so i think it might have been a mass email to everyone who was complete at that point in time? your status is the one i had before the "invited for interview" status so i think you're okay. 🙂

Or, that is the status you will have until March when they reject you.

Last year that was my status from the time my secondary was complete until I got my official rejection in late March.

Anyone with < 30 MCAT get interview invite? Just out of curiosity

If you like to play the odds, they do accept more applicants from their earlier interviews than their later interviews. This is an artifact of their rolling admissions process, as well as they flat out admit that they invite their preferred candidates to the earlier interview slots.

An IS applicant invited for an early interview has an extremely high (>70%) chance of acceptance, while those invited for later interviews must have less of a chance in order to balance things out.

That would make for a funny Dr. Winn speech to the Colorado residents at the first few interview sessions... "look to your left. look to your right. two of you... oh hell probably all three of you are gonna get an acceptance. RELAX!!!"

FYI, I don't have the exact numbers, but roughly 1/3 of OOS interviewees also get acceptances each year.

Hey guys, just interviewed here yesterday and signed up to relay some info. Just FYI, there is no "artifact of rolling admission" - Dr. Winn explicitly stated they still do rolling admission. For those of us that interviewed early, that means if they don't accept you right away, they'll keep re-reviewing your app at each adcom meeting til the class is full.

Yesterday was very OOS heavy (I am oos), and I got the impression they tend to have different is vs oos interview dates. Also, there were a lot more non-trads here than most places, so thats good for you older folk. (At first i wondered if there would be enough ppl my age to hang out with, but quickly realized in a class of 160 there's still gonna be well over 100 students in their 20s, lol).

And the earlier admissions numbers were correct, about half of interviewed student are accepted, so if you got an invite, it's a much better sign than most places.

Just to sum up the experience, I loved the school, they really have their stuff together, even though they've been around a long time they still take student feedback very seriously. There will be a new gym built by april or may, in case any one else thought about this. All the students said they loved the MSA, even if they didn't like the idea of it going in. Though they will try not to linger on it too much, they will mention that 2 of their childrens hospital and teaching hospital are now #1 in the country. I also, explored downtown Denver, and it's got some nice nightlife. Just make sure you head up to Market street and 17th - 21st, not hang around the 16th st mall. All in all, loved the place, hope to get in on the next admission cycle in 2-3 weeks.

Congrats on your interview! Did they mention if they're giving October 15th (or 17th?) acceptances? I ask because you say "next" admission cycle is in 2-3 weeks, does that mean they're doing the first one now?

yeah, they're giving out some acceptances this coming week to people from the first interviews, but not necessarily to everyone they will accept from the first group, so even if you interviewed early and don't hear back next week don't sweat it.

Thanks. And yeah, their re-review all season policy is nice.

Anyone heard? The website says they're giving out 25 acceptances sometime soon after the 15th.. Presumably today?

I think they are interviewing today, so I wonder if they will get around to sending out acceptances.

Last year the first acceptances went out on Oct. 19th. Hang in there everyone!

I'm interviewing next monday the 24th, anybody else? And any acceptances yet?

I can't stop checking my email...argh.

Do they email acceptances? I'm pretty sure they call first, but I could be wrong. Either way, my phone is going to be glued to my hand all day... :luck:

I'm at work in the basement of a hospital. If they call they'll receive no answer. 🙂

From what Dr. Winn was saying, I would guess he will try again later. Best of luck. Hopefully, we can all be in class together come September!

Waaaaaiting is the hardest part,

Yeah waaaaaiting is the haaarrrr deeeesssstttt part.

for those of you that interviewed already, did youguys stay with the student host??

i requested for student host, but i don't know if they will have enough med student host to accomodate me. i have to buy the air plane tickets but i need to know whether i need to book a hotel or not before i buy the air plane ticket, so i need to know fast...

should i call the school and ask??

also, to notify the acceptance, someone actually call and let you know??
what if you didn't get in? that would be one intense moment!!

No, that would be horrible! They'd call for acceptance only, rejection and waitlist they notify you by e-mail.

Congrats on your acceptance! Was it to Colorado?!?

Thanks! Nope, I haven't interviewed at CU yet - had to reschedule my original date. As far as I know Colorado hasn't notified anyone of acceptances yet, but I bet they will soon. Best of luck to everyone waiting!

Anybody care to offer their insights into how the interview process was?

The day:
The day was really well organized, and most of the presentations were helpful. Some of them were like... why are you telling me this? But the financial aid presentation and Dr. Winn's presentation were very informative. Dr. Winn was totally awesome and hilarious.
Lunch was pretty standard, but they do a kind of student panel during lunch, where students from each track talk about the track programs. If you want to hear about this, sit near the panel! It was impossible to hear them from the other side of the room.
The tour was great, they broke us up into groups of ~5 and each group was led by 1-2 students, which was a very neat way to do it. The facilities are awesome and they take you inside their amazing, gazillion dollar sim lab, the gorgeous Children's Hospital, building 500, and the library.

The interviews:
It appeared that they tried to match interviewers up with applicants based on shared interests. The two interviews were each around half an hour, and mine both asked pretty standard questions. One of my interviewers was really nice, and the other was clearly trying to get a rise out of me. I thought it was nice that they did the interviews early in the day, before lunch.

Definitely come prepared with questions about the school, good reasons for wanting to go to Colorado, and having recently read your AMCAS app and secondary app over; both of my interviewers asked me about pretty minute things on those apps.
:luck:

I think we should hear back about the initial 25 acceptances before November:

Does University of Colorado School of Medicine have rolling admissions?
Yes. Normally 25 offers are made initially after Oct. 15, and a comparable number in November, December and January. Our process is completed early March, and by the end of March all candidates who have been interviewed will receive notification as to whether they are accepted, on the alternate list or not accepted.

Anyone know if CU has sent out any interview invites recently? For instate in particular. Based on SDN, CU seems pretty quiet. Maybe they have already filled the interviews for the next couple of months???

This is why some of us are having a difficult time waiting. I'm thinking of calling them tomorrow just to make sure they haven't sent anything out an none of us on SDN happened to be in that first bunch.

I wouldn't go by the exact dates they give online, it's always a little variable. The majority of us won't find out our status until March, and March is a looong way away.

I've been waiting for the first round of acceptances too...with less and less patience (even though I know this is a bit silly, since a lot of people won't hear til March). I'd be curious to know too if the first round has gone out.

Don't worry, I'm with you on this one--I've been checking my phone far too often since Monday morning. I know that I need to chill out and just feel fortunate that I can hear back this early on, but I think in reality it might actually be more agonizing not knowing when things are supposed to be sent out rather than whether or not I'd be receiving an acceptance this round.

Personally, I'd be sincerely surprised if they've sent something out and none of the acceptances were for people who--even if they just lurk--frequent SDN. They're probably just a bit bogged down at the moment--they did mention that they're expecting a significant increase in the number of applications.

:xf: Hope that we hear before the end of this week though!

Yeah, I meant that it is hard because of knowing the date. It's like the day your MCAT scores were released....all day...every day this week.

If somebody wants to take one for the team and give them a call, my phone and I would be indebted to you.

Finally received secondary this morning, IS. It is killing me that I am at work now because I saved my essay on my computer at home and have been more anxious to get my application in here than anywhere else.

Folks,

just got an email saying they are really interested in my secondary app. Please fill it in and all.

Am I the only one? or do they just want the money at this point?

Good luck to you all.
