Happy Mardi Gras all...

Just wondering if any current UIC OOS students can shed some light as to how they are financing their education... it's so ridiculously expensive. Do you find that the costs are worth the educational experiences there? I got placed at Chicago.

Does anyone know if the February ad com meeting happened last Thursday or is it this Thursday?

I saw people get interview invites last week, so I am guessing it was last Thursday.

Do you guys know when they stop sending interview invites?

I interviewed back in mid-January in Chicago and still have decision pending....does anyone know when the ad com will meet to determine acceptances this month? I thought it was the third Thursday of the month, but I did not see anyone claim to receive an acceptance this month yet.

Yeah I interviewed mid January too. I'm interested in finding out what the deal is with that meeting.

I also interviewed early to mid January. I called at the end of January and they told me that I was not reviewed during the meeting, and that I would be in February. I have not heard anything or had a status change this month either. They might be meeting tomorrow, since they met the last Thursday in January.

My status has been "application in process" ever since the past 6 months! What should I do? Does mean a rejection?

Just changed from Applicant in process to Application is in process. This is a rejection, right?

Application in process can mean that they are looking at your application. You're still in the game until you get the "A Final Decision" status pre-interview. There is a breakdown on the hidden meaning of their cryptic status updates earlier in this thread.

Received this today with no "Additional Correspondence tab." Not a good sign?

A final decision was made on your application on . Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

Start checking your status through Monday.

START

I. Submit Primary.

II. Wait for the email from UIC giving you your login information for the Applicant Status Check site (usually arrives within 2 weeks of submitting your primary): https://mercury.comd.uic.edu/appstat

III. Login, and check your status in the second page. (hit NEXT button)

---

A. "Application Not Complete" = Secondary not yet complete.

B. "Application in Process" = You are complete. --> Goto C.

C. "Applicant in Process" = Your file is being reviewed, 3 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Select Interview Date" = You are good enough for an interview. --> Goto D.
2. "Application in Process" = You are not good enough to grant an interview yet, but might be later on in the cycle. Check back periodically. --> Go back to B.
3. "Final Decision Made ..." = You are not good enough. --> Goto X.
D. "Select Interview Date" (A grid of dates shows up) = Call and schedule an interview date, after which "Interview Scheduled on ... " shows up. After the interview, Goto F.

F. "Decision Pending" = File pending review at the next adcom meeting (every 3rd Thursday of the month). There are 2 options from here, depending on the month:
1. Before May. --> Goto M.
2. On or After May. --> Goto N.
M. Before May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " --> Goto S.
2. "Decision Pending" (No Status Change) + "We'll keep reviewing you" Email (a few days later) = You are a good candidate, but not good enough to grant an acceptance yet. UIC will keep reviewing you at every adcom meeting. --> Go back to F.
N. On or After May, 2 Possible Status Changes:
1. "Final Decision Made ... " You are (very likely) rejected. --> Goto X.
2. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. --> Goto Y.
S. There are 2 additional conditions from here:
1. There is an "Additional Correspondences" Tab in the upper-right corner on your status page AND you get a CBC Email (a few days later) = You are (very likely) accepted. --> Goto Z.
2. There is no "Additional Correspondences" Tab and/or you don't get the CBC Email = Rejection. [Note: This is tricky. The CBC email usually comes a few days after (1-4 is the consensus) the status change. Be patient. Sometimes, the email never comes, which might be because you already had a CBC done due to an acceptance at another school. In some instances, the CBC Email even comes after the snail-mail. If after a week, neither the tab nor the CBC email shows up, it's very likely a rejection. You've probably already received snail-mail by now alerting you to it.] --> Goto X.
X. "Final Decision Made ..." = Rejection ... Wait for a "Thin Letter" via snail-mail.

Y. "Applicant is Waitlisted" = Waitlisted. ... The CBC Email no longer acts as an indicator of an acceptance. If you get accepted off of the waitlist, then Goto Z, else Goto X.

Z. "Final Decision Made ..." + "Additional Correspondences" Tab + CBC Email = (very likely) Acceptance ... Wait for a "Fat Packet" via snail-mail. [Note: Sometimes CBC emails come after the packet. CBC emails also might never arrive if you got an acceptance to another school that also does CBC through AMCAS.]

*** PLEASE BEAR IN MIND that this info came from 2009. Therefore, the whole process may have changed since then, and there is no guarantee to this information. But it worked for me (even though I was given the same warning) and the time line was accurate.

Good look to all of you class of 2016 applicants!!

So far this has held pretty true (as far as I know)

I was accepted, but never received a CBC email.

My status has been "application in process" ever since the past 6 months! What should I do? Does mean a rejection?

I am also "application in process" for 6 full months. I check my status regularly and have seen no status change. 🙁

Just got that status change too. Good luck!

So has anyone received an additional correspondence status post-interview?

I'm confused...people got status updates last Thursday and this Thursday...so will they be meeting more often now until the end? Mine still says applicant in process since December 🙁

Does anyone know when the last interview invites will be out?

"addn'l correspondence (which is not a hyperlink by the way)
decision made 2-23-12"
no CBC email

2016 baybay...

When they say "Additional Correspondence" tab, do they mean another box in the table next to the "Confirm Interview" date?

It's not something that you can click on, right?

If so...a final decision was made...and I'm hoping for the best....

Nope, it's just an additional tab on the right side of the page, next to the "Confirm Interview tab." It shouldn't have any date or etc listed next to it.

It seems that most people find out about the additional correspondence tab on thurs. nights after the ad com meeting. How many of you have not had your status updated until friday or even the monday after?

Oh, Christ, reading these responses brings me back.

UIC has the most satanic notification system. It's designed to ruin weeks of your life with worry.

For those of you who received final decisions post-interview, that's a good sign.

My status changed the Monday after the adcom meeting in January..... I interviewed mid January as well.

Hello VisionaryTics,
I was wondering if you know anything about the PAP program? I interviewed in Jan. but subjected to a further month of decision pending. Do you know if everyone who interviews is offered a position in the program?

If our status doesnt get updated this meeting would that mean for sure that they werent able to make a decision? If so, will we for sure get an email telling us that they will re-review us next month?

They won't send an email. You'll just remain "Decision Pending" until they meet again.

I was not expecting anymore interview invites, but was fortunate to get one from Univ of Illinois. Interview dates available are late March to April.

Really excited and would love to attend this school (at any of the campuses). Any advice on the process would be appreciated!

Good luck to all applying!

Cheers!

How is everybody checking their status? When i go to the supplemental app website it wont let me log in and gives me a message "The supplemental application deadline has passed. The Application is unavailable."

Is anyone getting this message or am I at the wrong site? Can someone link me??

Interviewed late january and I'm getting antsy 🙂

Ah that helps. Thanks!

Still decision pending though.. grr

This page shows all my dates and supplemental details for the cycle to me, no "decision pending" or anything....did I get a silent reejection?

Yea I got my II as of yesterday...As for when they interview there are 3 dates left in late march and April (with an AM session and PM session for each day). When I called a few weeks ago they told me if you don't hear by early April, you're not going to be chosen to interview this cycle. As for the applicant in process thing, that means they are looking at your file at the ad com meeting and depending on your scores it can take a long time to decide (I was applicant in process for 2 months before the II) or it could be 2 weeks (I presume this is the case for kids with impeccable credentials). Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any more questions! But know that a great deal of my info comes from this forum hahah

Is the PAP program the pre-matriculation program?

If so, I'm not sure who gets offered it. Seems like a lot of the URMs/non-trads. Not sure though.

Hey everybody, I just got an update on my applicant status. It now says:

A final decision was made on your application on 02-24-12. Please allow two-weeks to receive the correspondence in the mail. If you do not receive this correspondence in two-weeks, please contact the Admissions Office. No decision will be given over the telephone.

Does this mean I am accepted??

look at reply #1220 above...do you ahve the "additional correspondence" tab on your status page? if yes then i think you are in (everyone else who has gotten this has gotten a fat envelope a few days/week later).

Just thought I'd post a letter distributed to the current students about the tuition raise. Food for thought.

To all current College of Medicine students,

We know that many of you have questions and concerns about the recent tuition increase. We would like to address those directly.

First, we want to emphasize that current students will see an increase in tuition of less than 3% next year. The larger increase, about which you have heard, will affect only incoming students. Tuition for in-state students will increase by $500 per semester, and tuition for out-of-state students will increase by $264 per semester. Further, there will be no increase in the summer tuition rate. This represents less than a 3% increase to the current in-state student tuition rate, and less than a 1% increase to the current out-of-state student tuition rate.

We also want to make clear that while the tuition increase for students entering the College next year is larger than we would have wanted, we are hoping that this tuition rate will be sustainable for all four years of the AY 2012-2013 entering class cohort, and that all of the net increase will be dedicated to improve our academic programs. Concurrent with the higher tuition, we are stepping up our efforts to provide funds for scholarships. We are confident that these higher tuition rates will not affect the tradition of diversity and focus on primary care, for which our College is nationally known.

We also want to assure you that we have heard the concerns raised by student representatives regarding the increase in tuition, especially because the decision was made without student input or consultation. In our attempt to set a sustainable tuition rate, and to do so in time to have it approved by the Board of Trustees so that new students could have ample time to make informed decisions, we neglected to engage in the necessary consultations. This was a mistake. We assure you that this will not happen again and that we will engage the elected student representatives in the process of setting tuition rates in the future.

Together with you, we remain committed to a learner-based educational environment that consistently strives for excellence.
Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have additional questions or concerns.

Greetings from the College of Medicine,

Let me first offer my sincere congratulations on your recent acceptance to join the University of Illinois College of Medicine as a member of the class of 2016. Our experienced faculty and student members on the Admissions Committee selected you from among a pool of nearly 7,500 applicants. Choosing a medical school is an important decision. As Dean of the College of Medicine, I share with you that we are committed to medical education as our top priority.

You have worked hard to earn a spot at the University of Illinois, College of Medicine. We are dedicated to educating the thought leaders of tomorrow in the fields of biomedical science and medicine to make the world a better place through life-enhancing medical breakthroughs and clinical care. As such, we are enhancing the curriculum to reflect active learner-based instruction and modernizing our educational spaces. These are among the several exciting initiatives underway to significantly enhance the educational experience for students.

Our community is steeped in a rich tradition of excellence across the state. This history includes the founding of the most prestigious medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha, at our Chicago campus in 1902 by then medical student, William Webster Root. This history continues today with such exceptional NIH funded faculty members as Edwin Cook, MD who translates his research in autism directly to clinical care. Dr. Cook is just one example of our world-class faculty members, who have contributed to our noted ranking as 47th among the nation's top NIH funded medical schools. A leader in technology, the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center in Peoria will offer innovative simulation training aimed at improving patient outcomes and lowering health care costs. Rockford's RMED program complements our MD program as part of the National Center for Rural Health Professions. The Medical Scholars Program in Urbana trains MD/PhDs to lead the nation with NIH Fellowship Awards including 18 fellowship awardees and 24 fellowship graduates in 2010.

Of course, high NIH funding rankings, facility renovations and a history of leadership at the College of Medicine are not the only considerations one makes as you select a medical school. It is our responsibility to ensure that our students are able to engage in appropriate financial planning. The University of Illinois Board of Trustees has now set tuition rates for students entering in the fall of 2012. More detailed information about tuition, fees, and financial aid can be found on the College's website at www.medicine.uic.edu/finaid. I am pleased to inform you that, we intend to keep the tuition rate sustainable for all for the AY 2012-2013 entering class cohort.
M1 tuition (Fall 2012/Spring 2013): $40,000
M2 tuition (Fall 2013/Spring 2014): $40,000
M2 Summer tuition (Summer 2014): $11,000
M3 tuition (Fall 2014/Spring 2015): $40,000
M3 Summer tuition (Summer 2015): $11,000
M4 tuition (Fall 2015/Spring 2016): $40,000
The University reserves the right to adjust the mandatory fees and assessments each year, but the College will do its part to provide as much certainty as possible in planning your financial future during your medical education. This flat tuition rate protects students from additional increases, which is an assurance that many of our peer institutions are unable to provide. If you have any questions about financial aid, please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid Services at (312) 413-0127 or [email protected].

In summary, I encourage you to further consider the University of Illinois, College of Medicine as the leading choice for your medical education and invite you to return for our Second Look Day. The Office of Admissions will be contacting you about this event. I look forward to hearing that you have decided to join our community of excellence at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Respectfully,

Dimitri T. Azar, MD, MBA
Dean of the College of Medicine
