same situation
well like i posted earlier I submitted my secondary 7/7 (im not sure when the letter writer person finished my letters) and im not sure when I went from "application in process" to "applicant in process" as I wasn't checking everyday. i remember being "applicant in process" for at least the last 2 weeks now thats for sure i wouldnt worry too much, they haven't started giving out interviews and its too early in the cycle to get too worked up now if ur in the situation come January u might wanna start getting a bit more worried just take a big breath grab a cold beer and relax

How long does it take to get the UIC secondary? Because was I screened out??

hmm..i dont know. I got email that u r under consideration on July 14th and then was sent link to secondary on the 15th..maybe they are a little lagging behind? you may want to call the admission's office!

i've been complete since 7/23 but still have a "application is in process" status. did anybody submit around then but get a "applicant in process" status?

i think there were several people on here who have an applicant in process status right now. I am guessing that interview invites will be coming pretty soon. 🙂

Does anyone know if they are strict on the 3 letters from professors? I have 2 letters from professors and 1 letter from the physician I shadowed.

I think you are allowed to have about 5-6 letters of rec or 1 committee letter with 2-3 extra letters. It seems to be sufficient, but I would give the office a call tomorrow just to be sure.

Is the estimated cost of attendance for OOS really $92,000 a year? That seems a little ridiculous.

Anyone know if they grant in-state after the first year?

idk the exact number, but that's not far off. It's extremely expensive for OOSers.

And I don't believe you can get in-state after a year. If I remember correctly, you have to have worked and lived here for a year, and not been here for school or something that would make getting IS status very unlikely.

illinois is rather tough to gain residency so don't count on it

Boo, ok thanks. It seemed like a good school for me to apply to, except the OOS aspect. And the ridiculous price tag.

Where does it say your status? All mine says is

"Your Application has been successfully submitted. Your IPAY Transaction ID is: xxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Although you may still view your application, no further changes will be allowed."

I talked to an admissions director in person today. This is what she said:

1. The committee has not even met yet.
2. The committee will not even start meeting until the very end of august/beginning of september
3. The first interview invitations are for EDP students and just a "handful of regular applicants"
4. Don't expect anything to change until mid-to-late september if you applied earlier, it may be later if you applied a little later.
5. They have received 3000 applications so far and are expecting to get between 3-5k more.
6. About 75% of people who are interviewed are offered admission to the school (she said for 850 students interviewed last year, a little over 600 were offered admisstion)

This is helpful. Thanks for the information. I guess I can stop checking my application status everyday!

I'd just contact UIC and ask. If it were for school I think you'd be fine, but I don't know about work.

There's a form you have to fill out if questions arise about your residency, mainly
- state of driver's license (generally needs to be issued in IL >12 months before you APPLY)
- voter registration
- where you paid taxes
- where you own property
- where your car is registered, insurance
- which state you claimed on AMCAS

If you went to high school and your parents still live in IL, there's generally not too much of an issue (unless you own a house someplace else). If you've just been working out of state temporarily, make sure you file IL taxes and keep your driver's license in IL. It's pretty much impossible to gain IL residency after you apply.

Yes, this was very helpful! So it does seem that UIC have an EDP program (some applicants were uncertain about this). Does anyone know if UIC screens applicants for interviews? I know there is a screen for secondaries, but I wanted to know if UIC has a screen for interviews based on MCAT/GPA..

I know nothing about EDP interviews, but there is no auto-interview for good stats for regular decision that I know of.

She also said that even the first interviews that have both EDP applicants and a handful of regular applicants are not based off of applicants with amazing scores. So people with the 35+ MCATs and 4.0 gpa's can rest easy for a while. She said that if they think you are qualified/good fit and you applied early then you could be put in those interviews with the EDP applicants.

I would like to figure this out too if anybody could answer this question. Also, did anybody receive an email saying that their application was complete?

I submitted my secondary on the 8/21. Does anyone know how long it takes for them to update my status. My status is "__recommendation received. awaiting admissions review." They also haven't update my LOR info on the top of the webpage.

Checked status this morning and changed to "Applicant in process" from "Application in process"
Last year invites came out this week, so here we goooo :luck:

I also changed to "Applicant in Process". They recorded that I had everything turned in on 8/1 for anyone who might be interested.

How long did it take for them to change your status from "awaiting review" to "applicant in progress"? I submitted my secondary on 8/21

i still have "application in progress"

submitted 7/21/11
last LOR 8/15/11

Hey, how long did it take for them to change your status from "awaiting review" to "applicant in progress"? I submitted my secondary on 8/21 and it says "awaiting review." And they received my LORs.

reposting this because more posts have asked:

I think I submitted mine early to mid July (I received the secondary invitation 7/7) and had it just changed this week, so like 6 weeks?

And somebody plz tell me my info is wrong. In my nice excel spreadsheet where I have organized all the info regarding secondaries and interview invites, I have Illinois giving out secondaries to 33% of applicants. I forget if I got this info from a book or their site or somewhere, but wow, they screen in only 1/3 of initial AMCAS applicants? That can't be right

I feel you buddy. Their webiste states that they are only sending out secondarys to applciants whom they are really considering. Yet, it seems like everyone on SDN has gotten a secondary. I guess we are just exceptional people on SDN.😍

Nice, so my sources might be correct after all. Good to hear that we all did receive secondaries

Are you sure this isn't SIU??? I know SIU only sends secondaries out to 1/3 of applicants all IS besides MD/JD applicants. I didn't think that U of I screened at all, but I could be wrong.

It is of no use to check the MSAR (2010-2011). I think they filled out where the secondaries are sent to instead of to whom they are sent to, and I did not see screening information on their website, so it is anybody's guess. If you are right, I would be extremely pleased for all of us, but I think you accidentally looked at the information for Southern Illinois University rather than the University of Illinois. That being said, I'm sure we are all good enough to get interview invites anyway 🙂 Best of luck to all of you!

i still have "application in progress"

submitted 7/21/11
last LOR 8/15/11

I submitted 8/5, and they got my letter packet on 8/11

My status changed to "applicant in progress" just this afternoon, so it'll be your turn soon 🙂

not yet...

:corny:

maybe its because I turned in so many letters... 😛

70% get secondaries and 33% get interviews according to a medical student at U of I.

Does everyone eventually receive the "applicant in process" status, because I'm at "application in process" and submitted 8/1.

Not possible. According to the ADMISSIONS DIRECTOR, they interview around 800 applicants and if that was 30 percent then they would only receive around 2700 applications which is WAY lower than what they really receive. They receive around 8k app's and therefore they interview about 10% of applicants.

~33% interviewed is totally correct, but only for in state.

Correct. The screen is pretty minimal for a secondary, and 1/3 of IS applicants are interviewed.

I submitted my primary AMCAS August 6th and still didnt receive any confirmation or secondary or email🙁

Was I the dumb person screened out:/

Or is it because my AMCAS is still "Ready for Review" and not verified???

I'm so sad reading all these posts...:*(

Interestingly, I have been in Applicant in Porcess status since 9th August, the day I submitted my secondary. Weird.

Do you guys see the status below before you went to applicant/application in review?

Current Status
- - Recommendation(s): 3 received from AMCAS, expecting a total of 3, awaiting Admissions Officer letter review-

~33% interviewed is totally correct, but only for in state.

Thank you for the clarification. I think people originally thought that only 33% received secondaries, but 33% of IS interviewed does make sense, and I think that is what I calculated from the MSAR a while back.
