Me too!! Accepted off alternate list at 12:15 pm today! Yay! I'm going to Miami!!
 
Interviewed in the very first group on 9/16, wait-listed since 10/31, had convinced myself I was going to FAU, was walking TO MY GRADUATION AT MIAMI, got the call in the middle of Stanford Drive, a stunned look came over my face, and I shouted with joy as my parents hugged the crap out of me. I am going to be the 4th MD to graduate from UM Miller School of Medicine in my family (and I will be attending the graduation of my older brother from the program today at 4pm). The Universe works in mysterious and beautiful ways.

3.81 Overall, 3.85 Science, 32O MCAT, in state.

CLASS OF 2016 BABY HECK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello Everyone-

Long time lurker. Just wanted to get some advice, as you know today is the last day to hold multiple acceptances. I was planning on attending Miller, but the school has been in the news a lot lately about financial problems, layoffs, and cuts in research. Has anyone else been a little turned off by this?

EDIT: Withdrew. Going to UF Best of Luck to all

It made me a little nervous, however the cuts do not affect the faculty at the school and therefore will not affect the students. UM is still the best in the state, and I can't turn that down.

I just withdrew from my other schools. It's now between Miami and UF. However, I haven't heard a thing back from Miami since I interviewed. What's going on. When I call they tell me you'll hear something next week. It's been a long time and nothing.

I'm in the exact same boat. I just assumed that means a rejection from Miami.
 
For some reason, any time I've had to deal with this admissions office, they have either beaten around the bush or were straight out rude. Does anyone else feel this way? It definitely influenced my decision to give up my spot.

Any wait-list movement for anyone as of May 15?

Yes, Miami is the best school in Florida for sure, but, already, the library is being staffed by volunteers on Sundays....
I think the cuts will have more of an impact on undergraduate (graduate, for sure) medical education than anyone might let on.
 
Until alternative arrangements can be made, the Calder librarian faculty will take turns volunteering on Sundays to open the Library at 1:00 pm and will remain on-site until 8:00 pm, at which time the Library will be closed for the evening. Library services will be limited.

Wow, that is horrible.

...horrible if you live in the library😀 Otherwise, you do what we all do in these hard times...sacrifice and find another study cove!

Sorry, whats the undergraduate medical education (as I went there)? The Coral Gables campus is completely untouched by the budget cuts. As I said, the faculty at the medical school is not being affected by the budget cuts. Yes, future residency positions and jobs are dismal at the moment, but for the medical students, shorter library times is the worst it is going to be.

undergraduate medical education = medical school
graduate medical education = residency

Still waiting. Don't know what else to do. I got into Wake Forest and about to accept my financial aid package but damn dude...I want to be at the U! Been there for the past two summers, but I guess that didn't help so much. Are they still pulling people off the waitlist? Is there anything else I can do but just freakin wait? Good luck to everyone waiting and congrats to the accepted

In the past, people have gotten in as late as the 2nd day of medical school. It is a long summer, and yes they will continue to pull out of the alternate list throughout.

I just checked my house phone messages and Dr. Weissman left me a message on Monday to call him...
ahh i can't call till tomorrow, thursday, because its already too late. im freaking out right now, i so hope i get accepted.

He was calling to tell me that they are getting close to my name on the alternate list, and am I still interested.

I will have a 2 bed 2 bath available at the Wind Condominiums (lease starts July). Roommate would have their own room, and bathroom. Parking space is valet but we can split the cost. Room will be furnished with brand new bed, shelf, custom closet. Mary Brickell Village is walking distance, as is the Metro Mover. Amazing views of downtown and the river. Rent will range from 1100 - 1250 including basic cable and internet. Split utilities. I have already negotiated brand new high capacity washer and drier so we can save on energy, and # of loads. This place is amazing! I'll post officially for a roommate once I have everything firmed up. Male or female is okay but must be clean, organized, and respectful. Non-trads welcome! Parking Availability: Street parking available. Approximately 10 spots open along the fence in front of the house.
Distance from UMMSM: 0.8 miles away
Transportation: Car, bike, or the Metrorail (Culmer Station is walking distance)
Availability: Starting June 1, 2012.
Other perks: This is a large two story house (~2,300 ft2) located in historic Spring Gardens, approximately 2 minutes away (by car) from Jackson. It has a large front, side, and back yard with two mango trees and an avocado tree, amongst others. The house is on a 2.5 lot with almost 17,000 ft2. The first floor has a Florida room (study room), large living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. Upstairs has two larger bedrooms and a bathroom with shower/bath. The floors are all wood or Spanish tile, and the house comes fully furnished with a large couch in the living room, large marble dining room table in the dining room, gas stove in the kitchen, etc. New roommates can decide whether to keep the furniture in the bedrooms or not. It comes with all appliances necessary, including a washing machine/dryer in the backyard cottage, and a washing machine in the kitchen. The roommates can be either male or female, doesn't make a difference to me. My girlfriend stays in my room sometimes, but we're very nice and keep to ourselves. What's most important to me is that the roommate is nice, conscientious, trustworthy, studious, and clean. This is a really special house that I've lived in throughout medical school. Hi All -

I'm subletting one of three bedrooms in an awesome 20th floor ocean-side high rise in downtown Miami - 325 S Biscayne - just a 7 minutes by car and 20 by public transit to school. Awesome big kitchen and beautiful ocean and river views, with some southern views of the city (especially Brickell).

Female roommates are preferred but men will be considered. Rent is only $900/mo + some utilities.
