What's happening, yaykittens? Mmm, yeah, I already interviewed for the non-traditional spot, so I'm going to have to go ahead and ask you to just email them and withdraw your application, mmmkay? So if you could just go ahead and take care of that for me, that'd be great.

And for you "youngins" still waiting to be accepted, can I offer some sage advice? Try not to think about the fact that the entire outcome of your life is out of your control, ya know? Just go for a walk, and forget that this may be your only opportunity to make a difference in the world. Carpe diem, right? And before you say it, you don't need to thank me for sharing my wisdom. Just doing the right thing is all the thanks I need. If you feel compelled to thank me though, go ahead.

What an asinine thing to say. Yes, this is a tremendously stressful process, especially when most of us are at the point in the application process (post interview) when there is nothing we can do to improve our chances but there's no reason to belittle another person. After all, 50% of all applicants receive an acceptance. Speaking of which, where is it that you were accepted?
 
No offense intended. I beg your pardon. I should remember you can't see my facial expressions, etc. I have been accepted at exactly zero schools. I was trying to provide levity, expressing some of the feelings I have been feeling. It was all in jest. Certainly we have worth regardless of the outcome, and I need to believe there is a plan for things. Please don't take me seriously and I truly am sorry for offending you. BTW, this is my second attempt. First one was in 1993. This truly means the world to me.

No sorry needed. Glad you pointed it out in case someone else took it seriously. Fwiw, there are rarely any hahas at the end of any of my jokes in real life either.

Hey guys, I just got accepted via snail mail! The packet came this afternoon, but it was sent only yesterday. I have been checking my phone, email, spam, etc. with ritualistic zeal, but I never got a phone call.

This was totally unexpected; I thought that it was over since my 8 wks had expired. Now I have to re-realign my plans for next year! Good luck to everyone else, and keep your chin up!

Also, does anyone know if we get to keep our current ONYEN, or do we get a new one?
 
Congratulations!! Hope springs eternal! Now you'll have to sell that van you bought to live down by the river. Big congratulations!

Definitely, I think I'm going to withdraw from everywhere else now; I just handed in the acceptance form today.

I don't know how I'd react if I did get the call / email / snail mail / CB radio shoutout (that's the only contact method yet unused)...

I'm pretty sure I would be quiet as a church mouse, partially from disbelief, and partially in deep reverence of the life altering news. I don't think I would jump up and down or anything extravagant. Oh please, please, please...

Looking at last year's thread, there was 1 posted acceptance on 11/29 and 1 the morning of the 30th (may have been others, but I stopped there).

Anyone know when they stop interviewing?

I submitted my secondary on 10/8, but still no word about an interview.
Nontraditional reapplicant - 3.7GPA / 33 MCAT

I think UNC tries to finish their interviews by the end of January. However, I have heard of multiple people having interviews as late as March.

I also don't know if the reapplicant committee has started meeting yet. . . If they have, they have only met once - twice at the most.

I was unaware that the re-applicant committee was a separate committee than the standard adcom. I am a re-applicant that interviewed the first week of November. Are you referring to the committee for selecting candidates for an interview, or the committee that decides whether to accept you post-interview?
 
Sent an in-the-area email this morning (Duke), Joni got back to me SUPER quick. I really hope I get an interview... OOS though :-\
 
I am in Durham for a few days, and I think it would be super-cool to get some UNC love while I'm in NC, but I somehow doubt it will happen.

It may not be a different group, but when I called a few weeks ago, I was told that the reapplicant committee likes to move quickly, and that they hadn't met yet. I interpreted that as they had not met ever, but clearly that is not the case.

Sorry for the misinformation - I'm in the reapplicant waiting boat myself, and the silence will affect your sanity if you let it.

Lots of quiet out there this time of year.

Yup. Gulp. For a couple of minutes I fell into the fun house of mirrors, i.e. reevaluating my interviewer's comments. What then seemed to be very positive comments are now starting to look more like gentle pacification. Very rarely do people leave interviews knowing they don't have a snow ball's chance in hell, right? It'd be rougher initially, but instead of months of hopeful waiting, maybe they could say: "Well 'name', you are dumb as a box of rocks, although I congratulate you on not yet suffocating on your own saliva.", or "Name, I am honestly shocked that someone thought you were worthy of an interview. Somebody's gonna get canned over this one.", or "Am I getting punked right now? Ok, who's messing with me? Where are the cameras hidden? Oh...Harris is gonna pay for this one."
 
My worst interview was my first acceptance. My two best interviews were my second acceptance. Total ****-shoot. Still hopeful for some in-state love.

So...I submitted my primary to UNC on 9/16 and haven't received any contact at all from them. Is it time to call (again)?
 
I wonder if the committee even met this week.

my thoughts exactly...I would think at least ONE person would post an acceptance yesterday or today, but then again they don't really have a reason for not meeting. Unless they pushed the meeting to today?
 
good question nado11. Im OOS, received and completed their secondary early on...end of July I think. haven't heard a peep since. and am I wrong when I say there's no way to check status updates with UNC? Just waiting on an email, correct? the online application page says nothing about status updates online...

No word here. I interviewed in October and haven't heard a word since. I'd love to hear something from UNC, as it's my favorite school. I had an amazing time there, and got a great impression of the program and people. I really appreciate that the school's mission is first and foremost to improve the health of North Carolinians and others whom they serve, and it really came across in my interview, especially with a story one of my interviewers told me. It's nice to see an amazing program dedicated to serving their community and directly improving health versus simply seeking more funding and prestige.

9/27 here and still nothing. Two weeks ago the folks that were accepted interviewed in the first week of September. They may have simply not made it to our applications yet.

I know of a few people who interviewed in September that have been accepted but it may be that they're going back through all the apps now? I interviewed 9/20 and am waiting as well :shrug:
 
Submitted 8/11. Rejected 1 hour ago. 🙁

EDIT: OOS. They mentioned that in the email.

Depends mostly on who you interviewed with.

i got the call last night - interviewed mid september. i think it really depends on whether your ad comm interviewer is able to make it to the meetings. i was past the 8 week mark and still got good news, so dont give up!
 
congrats ellie! would you mind sharing stats and who your adcom was?
