From those who have interviewed: My interview is in January. What should I expect?
31M/3.5gpa, bio/chem major w/ research, work experience (pharmaceuticals), lots of shadowing, bio lab teaching, science tutoring, emergency department volunteering. what do you think my chances are if the interview goes well?

Honestly, with UNC it's really hard to predict anything...I know of people with 3.9/35+ and pretty good EC's who haven't heard anything yet, and I also know of people with more average stats that have been accepted...really depends on who you get as your adcom and how much you get them to like you, but I personally didn't feel like the interview was intense compared to others I've had

Good luck today everyone! Hope we all get some good news before the Holidays. This is probably the last week we could hear something before next year.

I think I'm gonna try and nap through this one to bypass the agony

Im going to be honest, I will just be constantly refreshing this page all night.

How should I prepare for the interview? Do I need to know the ins and outs of health care? Are there ethical scenarios, etc. What were yall's hardest questions? What do you think you did well on and where do you think you should have done better?

I was just hopping back on here tonight, thinking that at least you may have heard, RJS. I think I now understand the concept of infinity quite well.

No news is better than bad news...no news is better than bad news...

Good luck on interviews and applications. Remember, the road ahead is long and difficult, so don't give up! 4 years of med school + 3-10 years of residency + fellowships...

Prediction:

Monday night: angst filled waiting messages---> can't believe there are no calls yet messages---->this is ridiculous messages.

Tuesday by 11am: __________: Hey guys I just wanted to let you know I got the call last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

haha yeaaah seems like it's becoming a ritual...according to last year's thread people got accepted later in the week too so who knows, maybe we could still hear something

Nothing for me yet either... It'd be so nice to know something before the holidays!!

YES! I am so happy for you! There must be a German word that means really happy for someone else and a little sad for oneself...

Way to go!!!!! AWESOME!!!!! You can breathe again!

They're probably writing my email right now but it is taking extra time because they want to tell me how awesome I am and, due to the length, delivery will be extra slow due to bandwidth throttling.

HUGE CONGRATS, RJS! Hope still for interview class of 9/20!

haha thanks so much! and yes definitely don't lose hope, the fact that they're still accepting september applicants means a lot. good luck to you and hopefully you'll get some good news soon!

Did anybody from November 16th interview hear back?
I know people who had their interview on Monday (14th) have heard back two weeks ago....

dude congrats seems like its been a long time coming!

you think u could post some stats for those of us waiting?

Congratulations RJS!!!
I'm holding on to the hope we'll be classmates next year!

Does anyone know if UNC favors letters of interest? I would really like to write one but they are never mentioned on the website and in none of the threads.

Any help would be appreciated.

Waiting...

Accepted via snail mail! I interviewed 10/14 and was actually accepted 11/28 but my parents were out of town, so I didn't get the letter until today. Such a relief!
Good luck to everyone waiting to hear!

For those that have received letters (acceptance, wait-list or rejection) how long after the adcom meeting did you get them?

Also, CONGRATULATIONS GPig!

Thanks! The letter was dated 11/29 and post-marked 12/1 so I would guess it got to my house by the Friday after committee meeting. I did not receive a call or email and was convinced I had been passed over, so keep a lookout for mail.
Good luck with this miserable waiting process and I hope you have good news soon!

I haven't heard of anyone being wait-listed - just acceptances and rejections. Have you folks heard of anyone getting wait-list notices?

And congrats GPig! I can't believe you were that patient for them to check your mail!

congrats GPig! I'm still in shock haha

...and for those above who were wondering, I interviewed on 9/20 and my adcom was Dr. Brice (other interviewer was Dr. Roberts), and stats: 3.9/37

Good luck to everyone else, I'm sure there are still plenty of spots left!

Accepted! Got the call yesterday and flipped out!!! OOS, 3.8, 36Q. Good luck everyone, hope to see you here next year, can't wait for August!

Who was your adcom Italk? Interview date?

Congrats, italk.

Now I know what it feels like to be a poor kid looking in the window watching all the other kids enjoying their ice cream cones! There is a plan...there is a plan...

I can learn a lot from analogies - instead of looking in the ice cream parlor sadly, a wise poor kid would quit looking in the window and go for a ride on his bike and enjoy the day, then steal an old lady's purse and get some ice cream.

All that have been accepted truly are superlative candidates. I take some comfort still being in contention with such an amazing pool.

No one seems to believe it but at UNC your adcom doesn't matter nearly as much as it seems: once your subcommittee decides to push your file for admission and gives you to "your" adcom you are pretty much in. It is rare that an adcom's recommended candidate for admission is denied by the final committee after the applicant passes through the subcommittee. If you need to think about anything, it is your subcommittee: most applicants don't make it through that stage. The better question is "what was your subcommittee number?" I am not speculating about this. So, if you have an average MCAT/GPA, you can always take hope that your subcommittee is being strategic of when to push your file, so that you are not presented with 37's and 38's etc. If you have a 37 or 38 and it has been 3 months you may have reason for a little more concern- or they may just be backed up. UNC is slow. So, it seems that both types of applicant should find valid justifications for hope.

Hey everybody! I have been stalking this forum for a little trying to discern when I would hear any news, so I figured I should go ahead and introduce myself (ahem, my stats), especially for those modest candidates. First time applicant, complete early Oct, interview invite 2 days later, interviewed early Nov, IS, 3.4 GPA, 31Q MCAT. You guys are awesome and make waiting a lot easier, haha. I will let you all know when I hear anything...UNC is my top choice!

Thanks for this info, Tarheel2011. If I remember correctly, you tried to make this point before also.

I guess this falls into that curious area of the brain where, like a drowning swimmer grabbing at any and everything, we tend to keep grasping at anything visible in hopes of forcibly creating a logical framework for our situation, even when none exists. In this scenario, I think there is a discernible pattern for part of the process - but no more than what - maybe 50% or so? This human tendency also explains investment behavior pretty well too, I think. Upon deeper reflection, remembering that a drowning swimmer grabs at any and everything, I suggest extreme caution rescuing anyone at a nude beach. (I like "dry" humor because one can concisely be: funny, unfunny, and stupid.)

P.S. Welcome into the light, Panther!

Pre-interview, post-secondary rejection. OOS. Complete in Sept.

OOS interviewed late September and was accepted in October. I am VERY excited! I was curious if anyone knew of any threads or online places where accepted students are starting to try and meet one another. Any help would be great. Thanks and good luck to everyone still waiting and congratulations to those who have heard good news.

I'm coming up on 3 months since my primary was verified and they still haven't screened me in or out for a secondary. I've contacted them three times and received a generic "please be patient, we screen" response each time.

Is anyone else still waiting to be screened in/out for a secondary at this point?😕

At least I haven't been rejected yet!
OOS

I applied in June and I'm in the same boat. 😉

I don't know of any yet but I would love to join one! If we can't find any maybe we should go ahead and make a fb group?

posted as information FYI...rejected OOS w/o interview after secondary...33Q (score arrived late in cycle...took MCAT in Sept.), 3.81 overall @ best technical school in the South (GT... > 3.55 graduates Summa Cum Laude), superior EC's and leadership, decent trailing and hospital volunteering, but almost no research (honestly, too busy), traditional first-time applicant
🙁

Sorry to hear the bad news, folks. Did you receive the news snail mail or email? Better luck elsewhere and/or next year!

Got rejection email on 12/21. OOS non-trad student here.

Good luck to everyone else!

Well, well, well...I hope everyone still in the hunt is hunky dory.

I was just reviewing the thread from last year and, as someone previously posted here, there probably will be a pause for a few weeks. Last year I think those folks expected the adcom to meet on 1/10 but, because of a storm, it was pushed back another 2 weeks. I hope this year's temperate weather continues! Two weeks between meetings is already creating a serious warp in my space-time continuum.

May everyone have a happy new year, and be granted the serenity to accept how things work out.

does anyone know if there is a facebook group yet for those of us who have been accepted?

I'm applying next year and I have a question about LORs. How many total did you send to UNC? Do you have to send some with the primary and then more with the secondary?

Good luck the rest of this cycle everyone!

OOS, pre-secondary rejection.

Primary AMCAS submitted in June. This is the first peep I've heard out of UNC since the confirmation of my application in late-June. My stats were definitely too low for OOS consideration, so no surprises. :luck: to those left.

Same here, rejected via email yesterday after having primary verified 9/16. Oh well, after three months of silence I wasn't expecting anything else. Like you, stats were low for OOS and no ties.

But i got my first acceptance today so it's all good!!!
