Go homeboy! I am happy for ya! What a momentous occasion!

(grumble grumble lucky so and so grumble) 🙂

And of course, I just checked my phone, again, to make sure the battery didn't die or otherwise malfunction!

congrats vickpick, that's awesome!

...I have yet to hear of an acceptance from someone who had Dr. Roberts as their adcom, anybody know of anyone?

Is Dr. Roberts the Hematologist? I haven't been accepted but I had Dr. Roberts and Dr. Hoole and I'm pretty sure that Dr. Hoole was the Adcom between the two of them.
Is it possible that they're both on committee members?

That's the one! I guess that is possible, because my other interviewer was Dr. Brice and she was substituting in for somebody else, pretty sure she's not an adcom. I know of a few others that had Dr. Roberts as well that haven't heard anything, so I'm wondering if he just takes longer than others?

I had Dr. Roberts as well and he flat out told me he was not the adcom.

I also had Dr. Noone (who by process of elimination was the adcom) and I have not heard anything from him. Anecdotal, but I know someone else who interviewed with him and that person has not heard anything either.

It seems like tonight was a slow night! I guess they are all out on the town partying it up?

Franklin st. is a great place to be at on Halloween.

This is true! And you are never too old to party there... not even when you're an octagenarian hematologist. Woo!

Oh and congrats on the acceptance!! You deserve it! 🙂

thanks 🙂. My face hurts cuz I cant stop smiling.

I got the call at 8!!! ACCEPTED!!!!!

Congrats Vickpick!

So incredibly jealous. Were you a reapp? Just curious... submitted my reapp a couple weeks ago and still haven't heard about an interview. Getting awfully nervous.

No, first time app. I wouldnt worry. I wasnt a reapp and it still took me 2-3 weeks to get a secondary... and it was pretty early on in the cycle.

Haha I know what you mean - I screamed so much after my first acceptance that my throat was sore for two days!

I know I'm being paranoid here but how does anybody know how the review process work. If you get deferred (not hearing anything), do they continually review your apps or do they just stick it in some pile that gets reviewed near the end of the cycle. Do you know of anybody who receive acct letter past the 8 weeks mark but like not in March?

OK, so no secondary and no rejection email means they are still screening my app right?

A friend told me that UNC starts reviewing re-applicants later than first time applicants... is this true? Any reapplicants had an II from UNC yet and if so when did you get it?

Thanks!

Alex

The committee began reviewing reapplicants either last week or the week before - can't remember which, but it was recent.

But, Ms. Reid told me that they try to go through as many as they can, so it's likely we will hear something before Thanksgiving.

Maybe the committee has a secret member who trolls the forum, deciding how important admittance is for each applicant, how we handle the stress, if we can work as a team, and they are waiting for each of us to make a statistically significant number of posts.

So I'm dying from the wait, but am staying very calm while I decompose, you "guys" are the best, we can do this together!...hmm...should've split this up into two posts...

OOS here. Secondary has been submitted for over a month. No email confirmation, no ii, no rejection whatsoever. Is this normal?

Dear UNC,

I am in a similar boat as you. I am OOS and have not heard at all from UNC, not even for a secondary. At least you have gotten a secondary, which is something. :luck:

I think it's normal. I'm an OOS and just interviewed on Monday. It took about 2 months between submitting my secondary and getting an II.

UNC was incredible; I got the impression the school listens to its students and is constantly revising the curriculum to improve the student learning and experience. The opportunity to pursue an MPH there along with a MD would be amazing. I hope to be lucky enough to get a phone call in the coming weeks from UNC.

Does anyone else get really nervous every time they go to check their mailbox?

I interviewed on the 27th of September and didn't get the call on Monday.

Im guessing this is going to be the cycle till we hear something:

Monday: Spend all day anxious about getting the call. Total productivity loss from 5:30 till 8:30.
Tuesday: Hold out hope that an Email or a phone call will come. Give up at about 6:00pm.
Wednesday-Saturday: Check mailbox 3x per day for rejection letter.
1 week of relative relaxation.

Repeat.

Same here. Primary verified 9/16 and no contact at all from UNC yet.

OOS Interview invite! I interview November 18th 😀

Any advice as to where is a cheap place to stay? I've been in the area before (I interviewed at Duke) but all I did was fly down early in the morning and fly back afterwards. Don't want to do that again 😛

Congrats! You can try getting a student host. If not, I recommend going on Expedia and checking out the Wingate in Durham. I was able to get a good price on it, and it's a nice hotel. I may have gotten lucky with the price I paid, though.

if it makes you feel any better i got verified around 8/1 and have nothing still

Whoah, what's the deal with UNC? They are slower than all the other schools I applied to.

About how long ago did you submit the secondary and did you ever receive a complete e-mail?

I couch surfed while in Chapel Hill and had an amazing time. I'd highly recommend giving it a try.

Right there with you, partner. Lately minus the relative relaxation though...I have 1 week and 3 days till my 8 weeks are "used up"...not that after that my chances are zero, but certainly they continue to decline.

Got my packet yesterday. Do they usually starts fb page for the accepted students?

Could those of you who have already interviewed expand on how you prepared for the interview itself (the questions) and perhaps give some words on what for future interviewees to expect?

I submitted my secondary on July 31st. I never received a complete email - only on telling me my payment went through. 😛

I also completed my primary app early August and have not heard anything... Still hoping for a secondary invite, but I'm thinking it's a little to late for that.

Anyone know if they are still sending out secondaries?

To those waiting on secondaries or interview invites, I feel your pain.

For those of us hoping for a call today, if I may say:

Dear Heavenly Father, (or if you prefer, Yahweh, Jesus, Allah, Jehovah, Mother, Creator, or Higher Power)

You know our hearts, Lord, and our fervent desire to be blessed with the opportunity to learn about your most amazing creation, and to heal the sick when it is Your will. Help us to remember that Your plan is perfect and align our will with Yours.

Hear our prayer, Lord.

For any titles I missed, I apologize. I apologize for any ignorance, and any missed groups. I don't know which Hindu God to name. If Buddhist you're Buddhist, Buddha is dead. Long live the Buddha. If you're agnostic, atheistic, or pantheistic, I can dig it. If you're a Satanist, your browser may have misdirected you.

So does the committee meet every Monday? I thought that they met every other Monday, aka the next time being on the 14th?

I was ...umm... just making sure you were paying...attention. Good job, good job...

Hey, I was wondering if anyone [particularly IS] recently has gotten an interview invite and when they submitted their secondary...just trying to get an idea on the amount of time I have to sit on pins and needles hoping for an interview invite!!

I (IS) don't remember my exact submission date - I think it was the 1st week of July - and I received an interview invite within a week or 10 days.

I suppose, but don't know, that if you meet some threshold minimum values then the lag would be based on how busy they are right then, maybe?

And if you're a solid or stellar applicant, don't be too concerned yet. I read through last years thread and there were people interviewing AND being accepted within a couple of weeks through February, if I remember right.

And if you're good, but not stellar, you will learn (if you haven't already) that time slows down when travelling at the speed of light and when waiting for any news.
