Hey guys - long time lurker, first time poster here.

I was one of the OOSers who got the Jan 30th under active review email (3.7, 37R). Since then, I've heard nothing from the admissions office, but I did receive the following email on Thursday:

Dear (me),

Congratulations once again on your acceptance to UNC School of Medicine!

This is a reminder to request your final official transcript(s)... yadda yadda yadda.

Now, I received neither an email, nor phone call, nor letter saying I was accepted. If I have been, this is the first I've heard of it.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anyone else still waiting on a decision get one of these. Think this was this a fluke or do I have cause to celebrate for the weekend (before calling the office on monday...)?

I would celebrate. 👍 Congrats!

FYI, based on the interview schedules there will have been:
147 out of state interviews
517 in state interviews

My adcom member mentioned that they will be admitting 180 students this year. So if you received and interview, you have about a 1/3 chance of acceptance.

Except for the fact that they only accept about 20 OOS. That means your OOS chances are about 13% chance of admittance 😛

They accept more than 20, but only a portion of them decide to enroll at UNC vs any other school.

I mean its not THAT far off- UNC has such a low amount of attrition. US News says they accepted only 42 OOS for 20 enrolled.

I mean, even in general, UNC only had to accept about 215 for a class of 180....they don't get turned down very often. By comparison, UVA accepted 400+ for 153 seats.

This should be the second to last meeting before its the wait list train. Or maybe the rejection pile? IDK. Having an acceptance I really like; it's not that I WANT a rejection from UNC (save $$$), but a wait list just casts a constant shadow over all of my planning and sense of closure in this long A process. Good luck everyone!

So when you say second look, is it for the people who have heard back from UNC regarding their application, whether it be waitlist or rejection, or any applicant who had interview but have not heard anything back from school.

I'm an IS applicant with 37 MCAT, above 3.75 GPA in both cumulative and sciences, and good extracurricular activities. But I have not heard back from UNC at all since my interview in November.

Should I call and ask them what's up?

Unfortunately second look is only for people who have been accepted. If you click on the second look like on the interview schedule it says that only accepted students can register.

Who knows, maybe the two of us will get in tonight. Here's to hoping!

Just got the call at around 5:30 PM! Interviewed early Dec. IS. Good luck to everyone else still waiting and congratulations to those who have gotten in!

Congrats rpdnathan!!! who was your adcom if you don't mind me asking?

Accepted!! First acceptance of the season plus my top choice! Good luck to everyone still waiting. I have been reading this thread since the beginning. Here is my info for those interested..

the name was misleading. Second look is for the accepted students who wants to take another look at school before matriculating. Oops.

Well, we haven't been rejected yet, so there's hope right? (some adcom calls on tuesdays or wednesdays)

Good luck!

Have they been sending out post-interview rejections throughout the process or are they going to wait until the end to send out all the rejections?

A buddy of mine got a post interview rejection in the 30th of January in stead of a continued review one.

I'm still holding on. This is the first I've heard of anyone getting in with Dr Hoole all season. Doesn't bode well for me since Hoole was my adcom. I guess all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

Has anyone been accepted without receiving the "active review" email?

I'd actually disagree with this. I believe last year there were a few meetings after interviews ended before the waiting list was created.

yes, it wouldn't hurt to check in with them

Second look sign-up is open!
Does anyone know the agenda or when we might be getting it (for second look)? I know that it is March 24 from 8-3pm and that's it.

Also orientation (which I believe is mandatory) starts August 6th and classes start the 13th (thats a guess on the second date!).

When you guys talk about the "active review" email, is this what you're talking about?

Dear Awsome Candidate,

The Admissions Committee is reviewing your application, but no final decision has been made. You will remain under active consideration and will be notified as soon as a decision has been reached. Furthermore, because of rolling admissions, this process may not be completed until the spring.

No further action on your part is required other than to inform us of any changes in your home or email address or your phone number. Thank you for your continued interest in the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.

Sincerely,

Robert A. Bashford, MD
Associate Dean for Admissions

Hey Guys -

I still haven't gotten many questions about UNC. Hopefully this means everything has been answered and you've either made up your mind to attend or you're waiting for a response. If not, I just want to repeat my offer. Please feel free to hit me up either on the forum or by PM about anything...curriculum, housing, residency placement, etc. Best of luck.

RM

Is there anything I can do after my interview. I am waiting for a response from UNC. I have sent an update letter on my recent activities, but I feel there must be something I could be doing.

Is anything going to happen tonight. This thread is not as busy as it used to be. Has anyone got those rejection emails or do they wait and send them out all at once?

I don't think so, since some people got accepted last Monday, and they seem to do that every other Monday.

I think their next meeting is next Monday, after which rejections and waitlists are sent out.

Has anyone who interviewed January 23rd or later heard anything (acceptance/rejection/wait list/active review, etc.)?

Also, do you think they are still giving out any acceptances at this next meeting or is it just rejections/wait-list spots at this point?

They probably have at least 1 (maybe 2) more adcom meetings for acceptances before everyone is a waitlist/rejection.

I've formulated this opinion from looking at past years trends and the # of people accepted from the forums so far this year.

Interviews Feb. 10th, Accepted Feb. 20th.

OOS, 34P, 3.7 cum.

Anyone else get accepted so fast? (Sorry if that sounds pretentious, but I was shocked.)

Congratulations Ginosaur! Out of curiosity, what kind of life experience do you have?

I'd rather not mention whom I interviewed with, for their sake.

Do any of you know if the committee meets over the spring break?

Oh, revenge is sweet. ACC Regular Season Champs!!! What a way to end the reg. GO HEELS!!! (Not so lucky this time, huh Austin?)

UNC-SOM students are on their Spring Break currently. Do you think that the admissions committee will still meet today? Have they met in years past during this week?
