I haven't received an interview invite and I'm wondering if there could of been a problem. I've interviewed at all the other Texas schools and pre-matched at 4. I sent in my TMDSAS early and sent in the secondary app early as well. Do you guys think this is normal or should I be worried? I emailed them a while ago asking about the status of my app but did not get any response.

you might try calling to see if they have it, they actually lost my friend's application. tmdsas and secondary.

This is ridiculous, I've received both the acceptance packet and the alumni reception letter from UTMB but nothing from UTSW yet and I live in Dallas. I'm guessing they haven't mailed them yet.

What is the rush? It took a couple weeks for me to receive accepatance letters. You are in! Enjoy the holidays.

Got my acceptance packet in today. Call me neurotic, but I mailing it back certified so I know it got there.

I just knew this was going to happen...just left Abilene to go to Dallas for thanksgiving! Looks like I won't be getting my letter til Saturday. Shoot! Haha. Good idea mailing it certified. Will probably do the same

Too bad it says that it has to be back by Friday or you forfeit your spot.

Just kidding.
It's Dec 6

Do scholarship offerings go out with this letter or is that later in the process (after FAFSA)?

In the past the scholarships have been with the acceptance letter but if you don't get money now, don't fret! They also give out grant money (which is basically a scholarship bc you don't have to pay it back) with the FAFSA. The amount you get is based on need and changes each year (they try to give you the most your first year and then less after that so you end up taking more loans later and paying less interest overall). You are still eligible for grant money if you get a merit scholarship and it seems to me there is a good bit of grant money to go around.

Has anyone gotten a letter with scholarship information?

Congrats to everyone accepted! And good luck to everyone yet to interview. I really wish that I could get the opportunity to interview here. UTSW was tied with UTH for me when I first started the application process...I think my scores/grades/etc are good enough to interview(33/3.7 in engineering, shrug). My TMDSAS was submitted mid June, but my secondary wasn't submitted until late September (family illness stuff caused me to shift priorities for a bit).

Since I've seen some people receiving IIs for January dates, have I missed out on my chance? I'll be pretty bummed if I shot myself in the foot and never even get to interview. Of course, I'm thrilled that I prematched to UTH...just wish I could show UTSW what I'm made of! Ha.

hey josh-try e-mailing utsw? explain what happened with family?

on another note, is it still possible to prematch at this fine institution?

UTSW is one school where secondary submission date doesn't matter. I received my interview before submitting the secondary, ended up submitting it a day or two before my interview.

I'd do anything to be in your shoes right now. I'm a 3.97/36 dual major (Biochemistry/Neuroscience) from UT Austin. I have 3 named scholarships/Phi Beta Kappa/Phi Kappa Phi (I figure most applicants have PBK/PKP; it's a necessary but insufficient condition to get into medical school), and the usual research/shadowing/clinical experience (I do not have any publications, however) and I have zero pre-match offers and have interviewed at UTSW only so far.

No II from UTH, Texas A&M, TTHSC, Foster SOM, UTHSCSA.

These last few months have probably been among the most stressful in my life. I can't tell you how disconcerting and disappointing it is to see my peers sitting with multiple acceptances from Texas schools (I'm happy for them, though!) while I'm twiddling my thumbs wondering where I went wrong. There are two things that hurt me. First, I think what hurt me the most is the fact that my MCAT scores are somewhat asymmetrical (14 PS, 13 BS, 9 VR, 36R). Second, I applied really late in the cycle. I've been toying with the notion of getting an M.S. in Physiology from UMich if I don't get accepted this cycle, but unfortunately this would ruin my residency status for Texas and would probably make it even harder to get accepted into a Texas school for the next cycle. Anybody know of any M.S. programs that are specifically tailored for individuals trying to get into medical school? Are there any in Texas (so I can keep my residency status?)

The only saving grace here is that UTSW is far and away my top choice, but to be forced to have my entire future come down to the results of a single interview at a single school is phenomenally stressful.

Congratulations again for your pre-match offer of acceptance to UTH (and, actually, congrats to everyone in this thread who have pre-matched somewhere). I'm sure it makes it a hell of a lot easier to enjoy the holidays 🙂

And by the way, UTSW gives every person a nifty packet of GPA/MCAT distributions for the prior year's incoming class. Your 3.7/33 is more than sufficient to get an interview at UTSW (if interview invites aare determined by numbers alone). There are people with 26-27 MCAT scores who get into UTSW. The student profile for the incoming class of 2011 follows a fairly normal distribution around a mean of about 34, with about 40% of students having an MCAT score of 26-32. The mean GPA is about 3.8.

Based on the limited knowledge that I have of your application, I would say the only thing holding you back right now is the fact that you applied late. Texas schools have a fairly aggressive rolling admissions policy, so late applications really hurt.

Your ECs seems fine, and your numbers are great. I think a med school specific MS program (i.e. SMPs) is completely unnecessary for you, given the strength of your GPA and MCAT. There is another poster in this thread who prematched into UTSW with an unbalanced MCAT score, so I doubt the distribution of your scores is hurting you, especially with the high aggregate score. If you want to do a masters program to do a masters program, far be it for me to stop you, but UTSW tends to have a lot of movement in the spring, so there's still a lot of hope for you.

Moral of the story. Apply early. Multiple pre-meds at my school are over-qualified and have 0 interview invites because they applied late. On the contrary, I know several with low numbers and weak ECs who had multiple interviews and some pre-matches. I really do think that applying early is one of the most important things, literally. Good luck to you, you obviously deserve to go to medical school and adcom people will eventually see that.

I submitted my application late july and I have interviewed at 5 tx schools. 35, 3.8 and no prematch offers. I interviewed at the first date at utsw and I thought my interviews went stellar. i applied to several *reach* out of state schools as well. i wonder if the tx schools dont want to prematch me based on that. also, i have taken a little bit longer than usual to graduate because of a changed major. hhmmmmmumphhhhh.

i got my official acceptance letter in the mail today, (bursting at the seams) i got a hefty scholarship too 🙂

Good luck to everyone else waiting:luck:

I am not sure doing an out of state masters will ruin your residency since you are continuing your education. I went to school out of state for 4 years then did a 1 year fellowship at NIH and was still in-state because leaving the state for education doesn't count. There is still A LOT of time for an acceptance though so, while I know you are stressed, please just know that southwestern accepts kids throughout the spring. If you have to apply again, apply as early as possible. Sorry this cycle is not going like you hoped--you sound like an amazing applicant who is getting the short end of the stick.

I doubt that OOS applications are hurting you. I applied to a bunch of OOS schools as well (didn't even finish the application for a lot of them :lame:).

There doesn't seem to be a lot of rhyme or reason to prematch, just based on what I've seen. With your numbers + your 5 interviews, you'll get in somewhere for sure.

dang that means i didn't get a scholarship, unless my mom cant read.

I agree with Whatyousay, it might be because you applied late. I would suggest sending out update letters to all TX schools. I did that for a couple out-of-state schools (WashU, Northwestern) and got IIs within a few days. I think some applications may get lost/overlooked in the shuffle. It helps to remind them of who you are and that you'd like a shot, i think.

My acceptance letter only had 3 pages in it. Were your extra pages for your scholarship?

I only have 3 pages like you too, 1st page from the admissions committee welcoming me to C '2016 (the second paragraph of this page states the scholarship offer for the 4 years), 2nd page to accept/decline the offer and 3rd page with info about the essential functions required of med students

Hey Laplace, did you only receive interview invites to UTSW and UTMB (for TMDSAS)? It seems like you applied relatively early (well, relative to me anyways), and yet despite this fact you were invited (and ultimately accepted - congrats by the way!) to UTSW/UTMB while Texas Tech/UTH/UTHSCSA did not bother to interview you.

Your stats seem to be similar to mine and well within the range for Tech/UTH/UTHSCSA as well.

I'm wondering if maybe it's a good thing that only UTSW has interviewed me thus far (for TMDSAS) while the remaining schools have not. Perhaps it's a roundabout way for schools like Tech/A&M/etc. to say "this candidate will probably end up going to UTSW so we're not going to bother interviewing him."

Any thoughts?

Oh sorry, I should probably update my mdapps profile to be more accurate. I never did the secondary for A&M or Tech because I knew I didn't want to go there.

As far as UTHSCSA, they sent me an interview invite the day after I got into UTSW and UTMB so I probably won't be going there.

For UTH, I still have yet to hear any word, and I most likely won't. Other people on this forum have pointed out that it may be because I listed all these out-of-state schools that I was applying to and it may have turned them off. It could also be the fact that I didn't do any TMDSAS optional essays. I guess we'll never know.

For your case, UTSW is the quickest in terms of interview invite turn-around time if your numbers are good so I think that bodes well for you. All the other Texas school pretty much seem to do this "first come first serve" business (UTMB may also be an exception but I'm not too sure about them) which explains why you haven't received invites from too many other Texas schools. I think you'll be fine though, good luck :luck:

Hey man,

Sorry bout all the stress! I'd feel the same if I were in your shoes. I wouldn't start worrying too much about finding an MS program, there is still a LOT of time, and you have a very strong application.

There is an MS program at TCOM that, according to my friend, seems to have a pretty good success rate with getting kids into med school.

Good luck to you! To be honest, with your stats, you could just reapply next year just make sure to turn it in EARLY (like, early June). Make sure to do something productive during your year off =)

mrfuumanchu i think i know who you are and i think you should know who i am :LOL

btw congratulations class of '16. enjoy not being in medical school yet.

Got a pre-match offer this evening. Interviewed 11/12.

Congrats! What's your #1 at this point?

Thanks. Not sure. My plan is to accept all and contemplate. I only applied to Texas schools and have the problem of having really liked all the schools at which I interviewed, except UTH. And seems like UTH didn't like me either.🙂

What's wrong with Houston?

Pre-matched here on Nov15 and still waiting for the offer letter. Everyone here got the letters in the mail?

You guys need to chill out about the stupid official letters. They aren't hoarding them, I promise.

Congrats on the acceptances yall!

Still got my fingers crossed for southwestern :xf:
Wonder if any more prematches will go out, and if they'll go for earlier interview dates...
Have any rejections gone out? Where does that fall in the whole match schedule?

They don't reject anyone they interviewed, it's either acceptance pre-match/match or alternate list after the match.

Has anyone heard anything about any OOS acceptances? It seems that everyone who posted an acceptance so far is a Texas resident, but I'm just wondering if OOS acceptances follow a different timeline. I am an OOS applicant and interviewed on October 15 and still have heard nothing at this point and am wondering whether or not this is a bad sign. The admissions staff at UTSW seemed pretty vague on interview day about when they'd release OOS decisions...

I know someone who is OOS and got admitted on Nov 15th. Though she is a gunner and pretty intense about life. I don't know her numbers but I wouldn't be surprised if she had a 4.0 and some 38+ *humph*
