seems like today's the official first review day eh? got an email about my secondary as well.

I haven't heard anything from other schools except for receipt of my secondary....

secondary app question..

do they mean 500 words or 500 characters?

So can I only complete the secondary after my primary app has been transmitted? I signed up to that gateway site but it gives me an authentication error when I try to select "EDIT".

you can do it before your primary is submitted. You should get two emails from SW. One that they got your secondary and one that they got your primary

Thank you! Problem is, like I said before, I keep getting an "authentication error".

can you detail your steps from loggin to error?

So you hit the edit which is in the blue box that has your application data? Maybe its your browser or an issue with your cookies? It might be wise to contact them

Ah, I was indeed a browser thing. Switched to firefox and did not come across the same issue. Thanks!

Quick Q: On the list your particular experiences for your main interest (say, research) did you guys include dates, PI names? Just curious as to what would be the more appropriate way to list them.

Nah, just say what you have done and why it has made you interested in research, teaching, etc. You don't have to list specifics.

Glad it worked!

Just list. They really want a list.

i dont think they even want you to say why. i thought it was just a simple listing

The app said be concise and list so i followed

Neither do I. Its more for their records i think. TMDAS does the speaking

I thought it was free? TAMU's, TTU, Baylor are the Texas Schools with fees i think

Instead of making I thread I suppose I can ask you guys: how necessary, if at all, is sending an additional letter other than the committee one? My extra LOR writer is taking a long time to send his letter to interfolio, so I have been considering asking TMDSAS to delete that LOR entry before the app is verified.

Thoughts?

Depends. When the Texas Adcoms were asked about how many letters of rec they all wanted 3. No more no less. So a 4th one isnt really needed unless its really really strong and covers a base not covered in your application or previous letter. Contact TMDSAS and tell them you dont need that entry anymore.

has anyone else received an email saying UTSW received your secondary, but has not received an email saying they received your primary? my primary was only transmitted on the 24th so maybe they have not started downloading the recent transmissions...

Thanks

there was like a week lag between when my app was transmitted and when they emailed me about primary

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I'm not sure if I should call and see what's going on or just wait. My primary was submitted June 6.

Does anyone know when they historically start notifying people about interviews?? I am anxiously waiting 🙂!!

Hey guys,

Does anyone here know how to find the tentative interview schedules for all the schools? My brother just had a baby and I wanted to go visit in September when I had a free week but I can't seem to find any interview dates at any of the Texas websites. Thanks! Good luck to us all.

Hey BMEN,

Thanks, I actually found the schedules for three schools, UTMB, UTSW, and UTH. The rest seem to all have tentative schedules but nothing definitive like these other three schools. Appreciate your help though.

Gotcha. UTHSCSA seems to start Aug 9th i think and does interviews every-week?

best place to check schedule is last years texas schools threads to see how interviews were spread out

lol yeah, I went through some of them trying to find anybody who would comment on their interview questions and all that stuff but not a lot of people spoke about it. I'll do some more digging later, if I'm walking into a fire I want to know which way the wind is blowing

My TMDSAS was transmitted on 6/10 and I have yet to receive an email from Southwestern saying they got my primary. I completed the secondary and got the email receipt for that though.

You should prob check with UTSW, mine was transmitted on 6/27, and they send me an email yesterday confirming reception.

Yeah, I sent the admissions office an email today. If I don't hear back by the end of the week I'll call next week. I just don't want to seem "pushy" or anything, especially if for some weird reason they did send it and I didnt receive the email or it was accidently deleted.

Hey guys I have a quick MCAT question about UT-SW.

I am a Texas resident and I am really interested in UT-SW. I have a 3.8 gpa from a Top 20 university. What kind of mcat score do I need to be competitive for UT-SW number wise?

Thanks for the help, and GL on the application process.🙂

MSAR...get one.

Someone at UTSW told me that a 33 is highly skewed by URM data. Anyone know if there is any validity to this statement? Would a 33 be considered competitive for UTSW for a non-urm?

I have the MSAR and can give you the data for people accepted to UTSW.

Total Score:
10th percentile - 29
Median - 35
90th percentile - 38

Writing:
10th percentile - N
Median - Q
90th percentile - S

Verbal:
10th percentile - 9
Median - 11
90th percentile - 13

PS:
10th percentile - 10
Median - 12
90th percentile - 14

BS:
10th percentile - 10
Median - 12
90th percentile - 14

Note that the data from UTSW's website only accounts for people who ended up matriculating, whereas the MSAR accounts for everyone who got accepted regardless of where they ended up for med school. Hope that helps.
