I dunnO if I'm not looking at the details right...but do you know which parts of MS0 weekend we can bring parents/spouse??? Also, around how many percent of people bring parents/spouses?

From what I understood, you can bring them for all the activities. I encourage you to call or email though, if you would like clarity. My emails have mostly been answered within minutes of my sending them and everyone has been very helpful.

Hey all,

I was accepted into the SW class of 2016 recently, and it is definitely looking like this is where I want to be spending my next four years.

My question may come off as sketchy, but I was wondering if they did a drug test before matriculation.

I am definitely not a crackhead, but I have used marijuana recreational from time to time at hangouts with friends, and now I am terrified that this might come back to haunt me.

:troll:

I've seen almost this exact post in other places on the forum by a different account user. Just ignore the second UTSW troll.

Had a dream last night that I was completely rejected here. UTSW had no waitlist, and they posted, on their main website, lists of those who they choose to either accept or reject. Got an email saying a decision had been made for me, and my name was in the rejected column. Glad it isn't really like that haha

For those delusional candidates looking to go to UT Southwestern, here is a scathing safety monitoring report from an independent consultant that Parkland hand-picked as CMS-approved safety monitors about the horrible conditions at UTSW’s main teaching hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital.

Uh oh... Guess I should withdraw before I receive a cruel and unusual education... Thanks for the unbiased, considerate information Calibria.

The worst part -- his/her username seems derived from an awful, awful font.

I'm having a hard time believing this story. UTSW is a great medical school, and for Alvarez & Marsal to condemn UTSW is not the UTSW I know.

Yeah, that guy is the DMN (Dallas Morning News) troll whose posts keep getting deleted and accounts banned. So if you see an account with very few postings and this crap, ignore it. The DMN troll has gotten a little smarter. Before he/she would just post directly on here. Now he/she goes and spams other threads with useless questions to up his/her post count before coming here.

Also, if you edit your post and delete the quote, then their spam won't be on here anymore.

grunigen is also the troll...

That's one smart troll, quoting a troll post and then refuting it without substance so that the troll post stays up. Stroke of genius.

On another note, I hope y'all all have fun at MS0 this weekend! My classmates have worked really hard to put everything together so I hope you enjoy yourselves and get a better idea what being a Southwestern student is all about. Definitely try to come to the Multicultural Show tonight--there's great food and tons and tons of student performances. As always, let me know if you come up with any questions!

I think you guys are getting a little too paranoid for your own good. I'm a junior member, not a new member, like the person trolling. A little more of this paranoia, then I'm sure you're going to accuse each other of being trolls. Then the terrorist will have truly won.

10 posts = junior member, not much different from a new member. I've seen the DMN troll post a bunch of useless questions before to up their post count. For example, the troll put their status at resident or attending, and then posted in 5+ Texas school-specific threads asking how to study for the MCAT (which they wouldn't care about if they were really an attending or resident), before coming here to post about the Dallas Morning News articles.

I agree with grunigen's last post, although my very small post # history is probably going to be used against me as well. Labeling people as trolls, tracking down everything they've written on SDN, and silencing them by deleting their posts seems a bit extreme and turns me off to UTSW more than the DMN articles themselves.

As an applicant, I appreciate some previous posts that say "I don't know about all those news articles, but I like x, y, z about being at UTSW". Also, I asked a pharmacist the other day (about the DMN coverage) who used to work for Parkland and now works at another Dallas area hospital. She said if you look at recent medication errors at her current hospital, multiply them to be equal to # of Parkland's beds, they just about equal what's cited in one of this week's DMN articles. She concluded that the language DMN uses is inflammatory and doesn't bother to mention what an average error rate across several area hospitals is. THAT is helpful.

All I'm saying is, I'm a lot more worried by this name-calling and censorship than the original DMN posts. If you could provide some data or personal experiences proving why I should not believe DMN, I would be more into believing you anyway since I want to believe that UTSW is a great place to be.

The troll is obviously an idiot. The tone of every single one of their posts is the same, which makes them very easy to spot. If you do look at their post history, you can easily see that (if they have any posts) their questions are extremely naive (much beyond what is normal for anyone involved in the application process). This strongly suggests that they are ignorant about the process because they aren't really who they're claiming to be.

Heck, the dallas morning news articles aren't even available online if you don't have a subscription. Reeeeaaaallll informative buddy.

What's the general consensus about sending letters of intent to SW at this point?

I think its totally up to you whether you should do that or not. They specifically asked us to not send in letters so you better have a REALLY convincing argument for your admission in your letter.

MS-0 weekend was pretty awesome.

That is all.

good point! I will have to put more thought into this...

Just received a match withdrawal email thanking me for considering them and wishing me the best of luck in medical school.

Very classy.

did anyone else get an email today saying our application was received?

Hi everyone,

I'm a longtime lurker who finally decided to set up an account.

It has been fairly quiet, both on my end and in this thread, since match day. Based upon my understanding, UT Southwestern is a strong proponent of the rolling admissions process, and therefore does not utilize match day to the extent that other schools do. On interview day, we were told the school would extend an additional 75-100 offers following match day. Has anyone who interviewed, but didn't receive a pre-match offer, heard anything (acceptance, update, anticipated timeframe etc..) from the admissions office other than the wait list email that was sent earlier this month?

Also, at what point do you expect there to be the most wait list movement?

I ask this because, due to the late date on which I interviewed, I didn't have a chance to receive a pre-match offer before the December deadline. I did, however, feel that my interviews went very well, and I have been very excited about the prospect of attending UT Southwestern ever since. I guess I'm just anxious to hear back so I can start making plans for the coming year. I'm sure there are many others who share this sentiment.

I think it'll probably start to happen in late March or April as non-rolling AMCAS schools begin to accept people from UTSW. Please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Correct...the main stimulus for the waitlist movement is students withdrawing when non-rolling out of state schools start extending offers. So... March-April.

Good luck!

Yeah, essentially everyone that interviewed on Jan 7th interviewed for an automatic waitlist position since pre-match offers were finished and they didn't match anyone... Plus, I'm sure they had good candidates who didn't get pre-match offers who interviewed before Dec 31st.... so there's no predicting who will get off this waitlist imo.

I interviewed on December 10th, and to my knowledge, no one from that group received a pre-match offer. I've seen a few people who were given pre-match offers following the December 3rd interview, but I think the Christmas holiday may have shut down the process a bit prematurely for those who visited the next week. Maybe not? Anyways, it's likely that there were quite a few good/great (based upon app + interview) applicants from the last two interview dates that would get preference over those who interviewed at earlier dates and didn't receive a pre-match offer. And by preference, I just mean in terms of consideration, since these two pools of applicants never had a chance of avoiding the wait list. Any differing opinions?

for financial aid, all we had to do was fill out the fafsa? dont need to mail them any forms?

anyone have UTSW's 2012 match list yet?

I copied this from the 2012 Match Lists thread. There is still nothing posted officially on the UT Southwestern website, so I can't verify the accuracy of this list.

thanks JABWS! despite what people say about match lists not be a big deal and shouldn't matter to us...i still think it's fun to see them 😉

Agreed! It probably shouldn't have much bearing on our decision making process, but it's very interesting to see which specialties predominate, and where the current medical students have chosen to continue their training. As someone who is interested in internal medicine, I'm encouraged by the fact that many students have elected to stay in Dallas.

does anyone here know the detailed breakdown for 3rd year clinical grading? ie what percentage shelf exam, what percentage subjective eval? and whether or not there are quotas for how many receive honors and high pass?

I believe this is another game by the DMN troll...They only came on here to post that so we would go to the website, scroll down, and read all the comments

Well played DMN troll, well played

 i most definitely didn't notice the posts below, all i need to know is UTSW is ranked top in TX

Now the troll is calling himself a troll....priceless

The sad thing is that Baylor has done a better job of brand-naming itself. Outside of TX, I know people who recognize Baylor's name but give me a blank stare at UT Southwestern. :/ Maybe it's because there are 4 UT med schools (UT-Houston, UTMB, UTHSCSA, UTSW)?

yep, i live on the west coast and when i tell people i'm going to southwestern i have to A) tell them it is in dallas B) convince them it is not a DO school C) explain why i am going there "of all places"

That may be true, but how many of those people know that BCM is not affiliated with Baylor University? Nothing against BCM, but in my circle of friends/acquaintances, I can definitely see how the medical school has benefited considerably from the university.

In keeping with this discussion, name recognition seems always to be influenced, in large part, by the reputation of the undergraduate institution, not necessarily that of the graduate school in question (among those outside the profession). Fortunately, this is not the case within a given profession, such as medicine, where physicians are generally knowledgable about certain programs that have managed to fly beneath the layman's radar.

I am curious if anyone has gotten in yet post match? I have been checking this site for two weeks waiting to see if they have started yet, with nothing coming through.
