Just so you all know, they have a bunch of people on the curriculum committee. I graduated last year and my curriculum was totally different than it is now, but when I was a first year, it was the second year of a new curriculum and as I posted earlier, my class rocked step I. I'm sure the new curriculum is even better...and I know they developed it with the forward thinking that the USMLE is changing.

Ps. I'm in a residency pretty far North of C'ville and I'm missing me some C'ville warmth.:scared: heheh.

Technically, they developed it to make the transition to wards easier. They've made frequent comments that they are not teaching towards step 1, and in a few of our classes, individuals have actually studied for exams using step 2 prep books.

We'll see how well we feel they prepared us for step 1 in a few months.

Technically transitioning to wards should be the main objective, but doing well on steps isn't a bad thing...not that it's a main concern for a premed deciding where they should matriculate. 😉

Either way, win-win.

It snowed here last night. I mistakenly wore shorts earlier in the day, I'm just not ready for winter. 🙁

Been complete since 8/14 and still haven't heard anything. That goes for a lot of schools that I was complete at around that time

Join the club my friend. Definitely frustrating. Crossing my fingers I hear something back soon, be it rejection or interview invite. At this point, I'm ok with either! Just want some news! Patience, patience...

interviewed here today, this school is incredible! everyone seems really happy to be there and the faculty are very supportive. they also probably have the fastest notification time i've seen yet (you find out pretty much the next week!)

Anyone in the Philly/NY/NJ area going to Uva late Nov? Since flights are super expensive (>500 for the times I'm looking at), would anyone want to split a rental car and gas and drive there together? Please pm if interested. Thanks!

If you don't want to drive or fly, you could always take the train, although that's probably the slower option.

Dude, last year I got an II in January. No word from them this year yet. 38R, IS, 3.6, lots o' clinical experience. Dunno what's up... at least I have an acceptance this year, so I'm not flipping out.

Invited for interview at all my state schools except UVA- not a peep one way or the other from them. Was complete on Sept. 26. Did I get passed over?

Wow. Yeah, at this point, I've accepted the fact that I might not hear back from most schools until after christmas, or later. Kind of depressing. I have an acceptance as well, and just completed an interview at another school, so in reality, this frustration I feel is purely petty in nature. I will be a great physician, whether I graduate from UVa or not! haha. good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back.

Are there any international applicants who have received interview invites so far?

I've been complete since 7/25. Rejected pre-interview via snail mail.
30 3.92/3.86 OOS(MD)

36R/3.91s,3.94c. from PA. Was complete oct 6th. Can't wait to head down there, will interview on dec 6th, and dec 8th was the latest spot they offered me, so I assume theres plenty of spots left in dec, jan, feb, and march.

*DOH* we're MCAT score twins, but your GPA blows mine outta the water. Good luck...

anybody here get rejected/waitlisted post interview. seems like most people got in after the interview.

I saw several who got waitlisted. Also, it seems that most get in because most DO get in after interview; about 2/3 based on admissions data I've seen.

From what I've heard, some insane number of people (around 85%, I think) who interview early in the season get in... because most don't end up attending. I think I'm the earliest interview in my class, and I've met very few people in my class who interviewed before October 15th. It's later in the season that more people end up on the waitlist, because they have to wait until people drop out to go to other schools.

I believe the biggest "hump" by far for this school is reaching the interview level.

Not really. I was waitlisted. 🙁

Once you get an interview, your chances of getting in jump to around 50%. If you're still in the regular pool, your chances of admission are more like 5-10% [note that these numbers are based on past experience, and I have no idea how accurate they actually are specifically for UVA].

Thus, getting to the interview level is the hardest part. You're competing against thousands of applications instead of just hundreds.

Also note that beyond the anomaly that was my class, people do get in off the waitlist every year, so the waitlist is not a death sentence. Heck, the first year president came off the waitlist in like June.

Yayayay interview invite here!!! But it won't be until January, but still! So excited. 🙂

congrats on the interviews guys. i'm a uva med school alum (SMD'08) and can tell you it's a great place to learn medicine. unless they've changed their admission process greatly since i left, about half of people that interview will be accepted. good luck!

Does UVA accept update letters/in area emails? Thanks y'all.

Unless you interviewed on the first day, I know some people in our class who interviewed earlier. For what it's worth, I interviewed in mid-September and there were a few students from my day at second look and one of them is in our class. I think that there is probably some correlation between when you interview and your likelihood of being accepted, although we're just speculating. I would be cautious about concluding too much from old admissions data as it is my understanding that they have changed some of their policies since accidentally over-enrolling our class two years ago.

Good luck to everyone waiting for an interview invite or a decision from the admissions committee! I know that the most stressful part of the process is the waiting.

2011 grad, would have been 2010 but took the year to do an MPH. I interviewed early in Dec when it snowed for some reason. I was in DC so I just drove...only one other person was at the interview because he was in the area visiting friends a few days earlier (airport basically closed)...showed up first day of orientation in Aug and there was the dude I interviewed with that day. haha. So as far as I know they accept 100%. :meanie:

Any advice for the waitlisted?

🙁 rackin up the waitlist/holds/whatevertheyares here...

interview invite today. i was complete 11/4. Applied really late. I was complete early Oct at other schools and have only heard from 3 others. Just shows how variable this can be...

How are the interviews set up? Are they open or closed file? What information do the interviewers have access to?

I've read that UVa has given out some pre-interview rejections via mail...but I haven't heard anything yet, secondary complete in early July. Any idea when UVa starts sending out mass/real rejection notifications? Still hoping for that II but would like to hear anything at this point. Oh, and I've been trying to look up this info from the 2010 thread, but it's perpetually down???

The interviewers will know your entire application. And I mean, they will know. The Dean who talks to you at the beginning of the day will even have a little tidbit about your file memorized to tell everyone.

So... be sure you know what's in your application.

I'm interviewing on tuesday. Approx how long after can we expect to hear back?

They'll make the decision on Friday, and should send out the letters either on Friday afternoon or Monday morning. So you should hear back before Christmas.

No phone call huh?

Wow it's that quick? That's great.

I'm guessing that you have an astronomical mcat score?
Yeah, it's pretty high. But it hasn't been enough to speed up my other applications.

Wow. That is fast. Where did you find this out at? Do you also know how many acceptances they have given out vs. total acceptances?
