woohoo! congrats!

II for me too! So excited, first one 🙂

Complete 7/16
34Q, 4.0/4.0

I'm a little confused--they're letting us pick any day? (Other than the days they're closed). So I can just be like "yo dawg, September 1st is good for me!" and they'll be like "you got it blue bear!"

JFK and Newark, which one is more convenient to travel to Einstein? I am flying from California, pretty sure I will arrive at night.

So, I am a re-applicant and I am answering "Yes" for the question about applying to medical school previously. The prompt states to "list schools and years applied." Do they really want me to list 30+ schools I applied to last year?

I too would like to know this. AZ resident here so it'll be a long flight XD

Newark is an easy commute to 34th then you take the express bus up to Einstein. JFK I think would be farther... just my new york intuition.... JFKs just really much further out than you think it is. But there are usually more flights into JFK? La Guardia is right across the river... I wonder how fast that is by taxi from Einstein. Looks close on a map but it might not be in real life.

Also I just love Newark because its so much more chill than JFK. JFK is stressful.

Yeah my research shows La Guardia is closest. Anybody confirm?

I guess I could always wait for them to email me back with recommendations 😛

I have a family member who lives <10 minutes from Einstein and we always fly into La Guardia to visit her because it is by far the closest airport to her apartment (she always picks us up in her car, so I don't know if other airports are closer with mass transit, but i doubt it). Newark is really far away from where Einstein is; can be more than an hour by car/bus. I'm not as familiar with JFK, but it is in the middle in terms of distance.

La Guardia is your best bet unless you find an incredibly cheap flight into a different NYC airport.

take whatever is cheaper between laguardia and jfk. jetblue has good deals to both

i live at Einstein because my boyfriend is MSIII. a cab from laguardia takes about 15-20 minutes and costs ~$30-35 since you can get a nyc metered cab. it's definitely your best bet. jfk takes way longer via car or transit.

Interview Invite!!! AHHHHH! First one!!! So pumped!

Marked complete 7/23.

Congrats to all who have received interview invites...what are your stats if you don't mind?

3.7, 36. Undergrad WUSTL(don't know if this matters)

Completely ecstatic as I suck at the waiting game. Kinda hoping to get a few more interviews around the new york area so I can save some money.

Hey guys, I am an entering MS1 for Einstein! I was in your exact spots last year, so feel free to ask any questions. I will try my best to answer them. Our orientation starts on Monday, and classes starts on Thursday! :scared:

To answer your question: yes. Last year, I pick three days that were convenient for me and they pick 1 of the 3 dates. I got my second choice in dates, if that matters. You will come to find that most (not all) medical schools allow you to pick a date for interview, just in case that days conflict with your schedule.

Congrats on the interview and best of luck this cycle!

P.S. For flights, LaGuardia (LGA) is the closest, and I found that it has cheaper flights than JFK. Newark is way too far!

Doc Einstein (I see what you did there) can you describe your interview day? Did you stay overnight with a student host?

How was the housing process?

Just got the complete email (they were waiting on my 2nd MCAT score which just came in today).

I was complete 7/10. Many students that were complete on this day have already received invitations for interviews. I haven't received any correspondance from Albert Einstein since the completion email. Do students that are complete on the same day necessarily receive interview invites at the same time? Or is it more spread out than that?

Does Albert Einstein have silent rejections?

Is anybody else a little worried about the travel from the airport to where we're staying? I've never been to a big city and I'm a little intimidated/don't know how it works XD

And there's also the fact that I will likely get mugged and shot the moment I step off the plane. (jk)

You will be fine. Transportation is plentiful, and if you are overwhelmed to use the public transportation, hailing a cab is easy.

NYC also has one of the lowest big city crime rates in the country

Received an II on 8/6 and am interviewing on 9/24! SO EXCITED! I'VE HEARD GREAT THINGS ABOUT EINSTEIN 🙂

AMCAS verified early June, completed Einstein secondary the day I received it and I STILL haven't received a 'completed' email.............😱

You should probably call...this seems odd.

I did and they just told me to wait.....wait I did not!:meanie:

Just called back and apparently they had sent me the 'your file is now complete' email. I checked my inbox and it's not there. Whatever, so long as they say it's complete 😀

Thanks for the reply!

Make sure you download a subway map on your smartphone BEFORE you go down there! It sounds like a no brainer now, but I didn't realize I wouldn't have any reception or internet underground

I can't speak on behalf of other airports, but La Guardia has a subway connection directly at the airport! From there you can probably just pop out underground anywhere in the city since you only pay to go into the subway and you can ride it around all day if you'd like! Someone correct me if I'm wrong though since I've only had a fairly limited NYC experience.

Anyone else interviewing on the 9/14?

Doc Einstein (I see what you did there) can you describe your interview day? Did you stay overnight with a student host?

How was the housing process?

At Einstein, there is a early interview group and an afternoon interview group with lunch in between. I was in the early group, so I had lunch after my interview and tour. My interview was at Montefiore Hospital. Usually, I hate interviewing outside the campus because I would miss events that other interviewees go to. But, at Einstein, they let you leave early so that you can go to interview events that others go to. I am really glad that I had my interview at Montefiore because I saw how beautiful the hospital was! It was all glass, free wifi, and it looked really nice. For those that had interviews later, they just sat in the couch and chatted with other interviewees. After the interview, there is a student led tour (by this time, the second/afternoon interviewees should have arrived). We tour the academic building, apartment, gym, and clinical skills lab. We didn't tour the anatomy lab (on the 6th floor fyi). In the packet, there is a self-guided tour if you were interested. After the tour, we had lunch at the cafeteria and everyone just talked. Afterwards, the morning interview group leaves, and the second interview groups start their interview.

Some might say that Einstein's interview is not structure, since we don't get a lecture from anyone, and we pretty much just sit on the couch until our interview. But I think we get to see everything that we needed to see and had information on the school in our packets.

Housing. Unlike other schools where you have to look for housing, Einstein has apartment style housing available to students only. This is very convenient since it takes me literally 5-10 minutes to walk to class. I am actually taking the Biochem course, so I have been here for a week and a half now. Since I was not from the city, the places that I have live are relatively cheap and nice. When I saw Einstein's housing, I was a bit disappointed in that the apartments are relatively old. Though, they are really big! The feel that I get from other New Yorker is that the apartment is really nice compared to other NY apartments. It is very spacious and cheap! We are looking at about 400 dollars a month and that includes electricity, gas, internet, etc.

Student Host: I did stay with a student host. Though, I didn't think he/she was as welcoming as the other student host that I have been at. But, it was good in the way that I got a feeling of how relax the atmosphere at Einstein was. At another one of my interview, I was interviewing at an exam week, and my host stayed up all night studying and was really stress. I was also interviewing at Einstein during exam week, and my host was really relax. He/She had time to make a nice dinner, hang out with significant other, and chit chat. This was one of the reasons I picked Einstein!

I think it is more spread out. I would say don't worry too much about when you interview, since the earliest you hear back from Einstein is 1/15. We are non rolling. Though, last year, I along with others, heard back around Christmas. After, 1/15, I might worry a little bit on interviews, since acceptances have been given out already and there are less spots. Though, Einstein is unique in that we give out interviews until April (which is considerately later than most schools). There was a student that just got accepted to Einstein last week! So.. no worries.

Since I am not from the city, I can understand your feelings. I would say "DO NOT WORRY!". Just don't come to the bronx at night. If you come in the morning/afternoon it should be fine. If you come from LaGuardia, there are taxis right outside the airport that can take you to Einstein.

CONGRATSSS!!! Hope you like it!

How long after submission did it take you guys to receive a secondary? Just wondering I was verified last Friday evening (8/3/12), and I have received secondaries from all ten other schools I've applied to except Albert Einstein and Wake Forest.

I am an Einstein re-applicant; last year I interviewed at Einstein and everything Doc Einstein said is true! 🙂 Also, the people I interviewed with all had positive, "laid back" experiences, myself included.

Interview scheduled on 9/28, also sent email trying to find a host. So excited!!

Does anyone know if Einstein sends out rolling rejection letters or does silent rejections/ waits till the end of the cycle to send rejections?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but...

If we get this email:

Thank you for your application to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

AMCAS has just forwarded your materials to us and we would like to get you started on completing your application. Please keep in mind that you have until February 15, 2013 to get all of your documentation to us, but please don't wait that long!

Please visit our admissions website for specific instructions on getting started:
https://www.einstein.yu.edu/education/md-program/admissions/secondary-application/login.asp

We look forward to working with you. Thank you and good luck!

Dean Kerrigan

We are allowed to complete the secondary right? Just making sure I don't want them to pull the plug on my app! 😱

For this question on the secondary

"I have not completed the pre-medical requirements
(Please indicate what courses you are missing, and when and where you plan to complete them.)"

I graduated this may and have completed all the requirement. I sent out my transcript in may with the second semester of english requirement as in progress. on the amcas application, it is also listed as in progress but in reality i have already completed all the requirement. is this essay topic still relevant to me?

thanks

Awesome....thanks so much for the reply gonna do it now. Yeah if that's it I can't believe some people actually jumped the gun on it ha.

Yeah I don't blame you for being cautious, the whole thing is very strange. But to confirm what the above poster stated, you're good to go 🙂
