This is the first year that they are doing this, I would recommend emailing them with the problem so that the bugs can be worked out.

BTW, my "confirmation" email's body was this, verbatim:

adsfad

Interview invitation just now via email. Woot!
Hi,

Can you let me know what interview dates are available at this time? I am scheduling my interview with Cornell and am hoping to set the date to be close to Columbia's (in case I also got an II from Columbia).

Thank you.

The days available to me were September 18-21 and September 25-28.

Interview Invite just popped up in my inbox! So excited to visit Columbia 🙂 Secondary submitted 7/26

Interview Invite! 3.4/35

Ok guys I have an important question. Ive been invited to interview and the earliest day available is mid september. However I was really hoping to schedule my interview in early-mid october so that I have a few other interviews before columbia.

Question: Will postponing my interview by about 3 weeks make any sort of difference? Since this school is non-rolling im assuming no, but I want to get some opinions on it.

Thanks and good luck to those waiting!

^ it makes a difference to neurotic SDN pre-meds...but tbh, it would just be fine.

I think that postponing 3 weeks will be fine - I'm doing the same to coordinate this interview with a couple others.

What would be the reason for it making a difference in non-rolling school? Just trying to get some opinions on it. My reasoning is that scheduling it as one of my first interviews and messing up from lack of practice is much worse than postponing it back.

totally fine

word. in fact i just got an ii myself yesterday.

i think they're reducing the interviews down closer to 1k this year?

Last year was between 1100 and 1200, which according to the director of admissions yesterday at the admissions meeting was what they expected to match.

At Columbia it doesn't matter if you interview on the first or last day, as they basically do the final review at the very end of the interview season. Some non-rolling schools make decisions as they go, which potentially could affect one's chances near the end of the admissions cycle even if they release them all in the Spring.

Filling this out now- not sure about the ec question: do they want activities not mentioned in my main application?
EDIT: just realized i can search this thread and get answer I need 🙂

I am not yet AMCAS verified but have received a secondary application. Should I submit my secondary before verification is complete

Just got an interview invite!! Brightened my morning at work 🙂

II today as well! Got it scheduled day after my NYU interview so no two flights!

I was complete early, 7/15

II! I'm pretty surprised since I only submitted my secondary on Monday.

Try doing six interviews and a conference in one flight. Hah, saving money!

Also got an interview invite yesterday, 9/7! Does anyone know what the schedule of the interview day is? The confirmation email says it should be on the website but I can't find any info.

Washington Heights in general is not the safest place, but from what I hear the Columbia campus is in fact safe. The good news is there is a subway stop right on campus so if you need to go somewhere late at night for example, then you won't really have to walk through any bad areas.

Regarding the safety issue, let me just say that I currently live in Washington Heights, and actually work as an AmeriCorps member for the organization that runs the homeless shelter near the med school that someone mentioned. Both are pretty safe places--totally safe both anecdotally and in my experience, and from the statistics I've seen W. Heights is 4th lowest crime area in the city after UWS, UES, and Inwood (north of the medical school). The shelter has 24 hour staff that keep an eye on clients, and can help you out if someone's bugging you, though 99+% of the clients are pretty harmless and just dealing with addiction and psych issues. I actually feel a little safer in other parts of the Heights at night than around the hospital because there are less people there after the work day ends, whereas your average block in the neighborhood will have groups of people hanging out on the stoops of buildings up and down the street. If you're used to suburbia it's definitely quite different, but it's a fantastic community and a really great place to live. All that being said, the hospital is right on the 1, A and C lines so you can live anywhere downtown if you don't mind the expense/commute.

Haven't ever posted before but felt like I had to rep the neighborhood!

So I'm a bit confused - it probably doesn't mean anything, but on my columbia application website under status it has a section that says interview and then to the side it says Not Scheduled Yet. and under in the space where there are green checks it has a little lock. I'm an MSTP applicant and this school would be a dream for me - does everyone who hasn't received an ii have this? Or did I somehow miss an email? I'm probably assuming it's the former and I'm having wishful thinking lol

I don't have an interview and my status page shows the same thing.

everybody's shows up like that...don't read into it.

Does anybody know anything about the structure of the interview day, or at least what time it begins/ends? The confirmation email said to poke around the interview tab for more info, but I can't find anything useful there, and I'm trying to figure out travel plans!

Edit: Ok, I found this online: http://ps.columbia.edu/education/admissions/interview-day but how do we know if we have an AM or PM interview? I don't think we selected that when we scheduled, did we? Will we not find out until the day of? Type A struggles here...

Usually you can call and request if you want AM or PM. You should definitely plan to stay until at least 2:15ish so that you can get the whole deal with Dr. Nicholas, the tour, and the lunch.

To anybody that got the original Columbia confirmation email that only had "asdfasdf" in the email body, did you email the admissions department to have them resend an email? Is there anything important in the confirmation email besides a reminder of what date you will be attending your interview?

Thanks for the info.

Does Columbia do silent rejections? I see a lot of people got interviews already 🙁

My status has been complete for about a month, and I got an email as well saying my app was ready. Now the status shows the red mark and says my app isn't ready again... Anyone else have this / know what's up?

I have the red mark there too... I dont think it was there last week.

+4

Maybe it means they're literally reviewing your application right now?

+5 mine says "NOT ready" too. Last time I checked, which was last week, it still said ready and showed as green... what does this mean ?!

Application Complete

Your application is NOT ready!

Same here... well at least I'm prepared for the rejection now. That softens the blow!
