Does anyone know how responsive/welcome to in the area emails Columbia is? i know they request updates strictly on the online app but has anyone tried?

It is definitely worth a shot.

I attempted an "in the area" email earlier in the season but without success. They replied that I was still under consideration but they did not have any open interview slots on dates I would be in the area. However, I did receive an invitation later so my contact with them didn't hurt me. When I scheduled my interview a few weeks ago, they had a large number of dates open in January and I would expect many of them are still open.

I've been complete since early September and have not heard back. Obviously I didn't expect an interview, but this just adds to the silence from 75 % of the schools I applied to.

do you guys know if columbia just keeps you in the dark until a rejection in march? or will they tell you earlier sighh

From my understanding, decisions are made in Feb. and given out in March.

I got this reply:

Thank you for your email. Should the Admissions Committee decide to grant you an interview, we will try to accommodate the date(s) you have provided. Please note that all updates should be submitted on the Secondary application by using the Communications tab under the Status menu. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any additional questions.

So, don't think it looks like good news for me, but I don't think it hurts to try, either. Good luck!:luck:

Are those post-interview decisions or decisions for all applications?

I know for sure the committee is supposed to get together and go over all of the applicants post-interview in Feb. to make a decision.

I don't know when pre-interview decisions come out. Hopefull mmmcdowe could answer this.

For those who are interested:

I just made a call to Columbia.. I applied for the PhD/MD (shortened 3 yr) program and was hoping I could get some feedback as to whether my application is still under consideration for that or now in the regular MD category.

Although the person on the phone could not give me specifics (and did not look at my file), he did mention that he doesn't think the committee has made any decisions regarding the PhD/MD applicants.

eatsalot: you misunderstood my post. I'm referring to the PhD/MD program. NOT the MD/PhD program. Confusing, i know 🙂 they should really call it something different.

I wonder if a candidate is not selected for interview at the 3-year PhD/MD program, will they transfer the candidate to the regular MD pool?

that was what my understanding is, since usually people would just transfer to the regular pool if they didn't get in to the specialized one... although the website description is somewhat different, making me question this..

Traditionally everyone had to wait until March, but I believe last year they sent out some pre-interview rejections a smidgeon earlier than the post-interview decisions.

Interview invite received today.

Complete 11/15 (very very late applicant)

GL everyone!

GL everyone!

Congrats, man! Pretty quick turn around, good luck to you.

Anyone else get that "We're still considering you" email lately?

Just received an interview invite! Super psyched to check out the facilities and New York.

II! This is making me feel pretty good after a long streak of rejections recently. Complete 9/27.

Interview Invite! I'm shocked. Complete mid-October. After a streak of rejections from less selective schools I had given up hope. I opened the email fully expecting a rejection.

The link to look at the interview calendar is not working. Anybody else having this problem?

Congrats!!!

What's the earliest date available to interview??

Another II here! A nice pick-me-up after a similar series of rejections. So excited!

Hi! I was also really late - 11/6 - but have not heard back. Would you mind sharing your mcat/gpa? I'm trying to see if I have a chance. Thanks!

Hey -

Interviewed on Oct. 9......SO antsy to hear back in March. I heard they used to send out these "holiday greetings" giving an indication of whether or not you're still being considered? Is that true? gahahhah....going crazy

Well, considering that they only review the apps in Feb. I would think that everyone who has interviewed is still being considered..

I've learned the lesson... don't even think about it. The committee doesn't even discuss applicants until February, so you're still being considered. We all are until the Feb meetings. Whether you get this email or not, you're in the same boat as everyone else.

Has anyone who applied for MSTP been offered an MD interview yet?

Good to know. Wow, they don't even reconvene to discuss applicants until Feb? 😱

I guess I'll stop peeing my pants, now.

I was completed pretty early on.. haven't heard back yet :/... they didn't tell me if I've been moved to MD only pool yet..

Also complete MSTP pretty early.. their last interview day is Jan 11 (according to website), so we're running out of time haha 🙁

edit: I should say that that is the last MSTP interview day!

Wow. Once a month? What exactly are you saying in these letters?

Has anybody heard from the Columbia Bassett program? Have they started or already completed their interviews for the program? Anyone go on an interview and want to talk a little about the experience? Thanks and hope everyone is doing well!
