Got that same email and it had a link to more info. When I went to the web page it said "coming soon" so I guess we'll have to wait a while longer haha

I think someone mentioned that last year the second look day ended around 3 or 4, so the soon-to-be M1s scheduled more hangout time at a bar near the school or in oak park or something. Anyone else interested in this?

How did you guys go about sending in thank you notes? Did most people just email the admissions office, and say what interviewer you had? Or did a lot of you send in physical notes? Some schools are really weird about what you can do, and I don't recall it being mentioned at my interview. Thanks!

I mailed them:

Interviewer Name
c/o Stritch School of Medicine Admissions Office
2160 S 1st Ave
Maywood, IL

That's just what I did for all except the one interview I had that specifically told us how to send the thank you notes, as far as I know that was fine.

Good luck!

Does everyone plan to bring family if they're coming in from out of state?

I'm planning on bringing my significant other if we can get the flights arranged and timed corrected following the conference he is at that week. I'm excited to go back and visit and hopefully make my decision that weekend! Eek!

Will be accompanied by the p's on 4/12. 🙂

I also mailed the notes, Akeelah.

I emailed PDF letters to both the committee and interviewers. Both my interviewers gave me their cards, so I already had their emails.

And I will likely be going to Second Look with my padre.

Interested as well. I'm really excited for second look and will be bringing the dearest mother.

Been super busy so I haven't posted about looking for a roommate yet but should be doing that on Facebook soonish.... Maybe

I will be applying for Fall 2014.
So, a MS from a different school told me since Loyola Stritch is a Catholic school, they censor the information they teach you that conflicts with their faith. I'm going to be applying there anyway, I just wanted to know if this is true or just a bunch of hooey. What info do you have that contradicts or supports their claim?

Nothing they teach will conflict with science... so do not worry about that.

I asked about this during my interview. The only thing that may vary from other institutions is the topic of abortion since they take a pro-life stance. I cannot remember if my interviewer said that they do not teach you about it at all or cover both sides, but I know you will see no abortion procedures during the in-house clinical rotations. At the same time, he did say you are welcome to do away rotations where you can be exposed to this.

I think that is all correct but I am not 100% certain (interviews are fast and with a small sample of faculty). It would be nice to have an MS3 or 4 come in and confirm.

Good luck with your application cycle, Loyola is an awesome school. :luck:

It's hooey. On the whole, Loyola is actually a pretty liberal school.

Here is an older post from this thread in response to a similar question.

Loyola's Jesuit identity definitely affects the learning environment, but not in a way that limits your education.

First off, as part of our Patient-Centered Medicine course (basically our "how to be a doctor" class), we have a handful of lectures on medical ethics, and the Jesuit viewpoint is always mentioned. We also learn about spirituality as one component of human health. There is a chapel in the school, as well as a ministry office that sponsors myriad volunteer opportunities including international summer service trips. Oftentimes, school-wide functions such as the white coat ceremony will be opened with a brief convocation (prayer). And, of course, there are a lot of professed Catholics about, both among the student body and on the staff/faculty. Judging by the composition of our class, it would seem that people with a Catholic background or who attended Catholic colleges are favored in the admissions process, but this could just be a consequence of some self-selection among applicants. Or perhaps Catholic applicants are more apt to articulate ideas/values in their essays that resonate with the Jesuit mission. Whatever the case, though, there are people from of all faiths (or non-faiths) here, and you are neither required nor expected to embrace the Catholic faith or to attend religious services.

As mentioned, there are probably more Catholics on the faculty than at other schools, but there are also a boat-load of non-Catholics. Let's face it: we are, first and foremost, an institution of higher learning -- proselyting about religion is not on anyone's agenda.

As far procedures go, the only glaring example of a restriction that I can think of is on abortion, and if you're super keen on seeing one done, you are 100% free to rotate or shadow at one of the million other hospitals in the area.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much. Jesuits are about as progressive as a religious order can be, and there are plenty of Catholic-affiliated institutions amongst the nation's top hospitals. I'm the furthest thing from a devout Catholic, and I love it here.

Thank you! That helps a great deal. I attended bot a Jesuit college and grad school and couldn't imagine they censor teachings. I believed this MS because I thought she wanted to help me. Turns out about 75% of her info was false. It's horrible to think someone you look up to would deliberately mislead you...

Not sure who you've been speaking to you, but I saw that you posted something similar in another school-specific thread. Did this person talk to you about a bunch of different schools? Also, they may not have been intentionally misleading you, rather they may have just been uninformed.

Does anyone know if we will know tomorrow if we got accepted or not, for those of us later interviewers? I know they meet tomorrow, but just wondering if they make the phone calls tomorrow as well or not.

I believe you will find out tomorrow night, if it's good news. Good luck.

I'm not sure about stritch, but my other schools informed the next morning

I received my acceptance call at like 8 or 9pm Eastern time that Monday night. I think they do try to call as many as they can after the meeting that night.

They called me around 8pm day of the meeting! Good luck guys!

My call did not come till about 9:30pm on the east coast. So don't worry if you don't hear right away tonight!

Good luck to those awaiting decisions! IrishFootball I'm rooting for ya. 🙂

Got the acceptance call at about 730ish. So excited, Good luck everybody!

Haven't really been nervous all day, but now, after checking in and seeing the calls have started, I AM GETTING VERY ANXIOUS!

congrats lucidity! its always tough when one man's excitement is another man's terror!

Accepted! Just got the call 7pm central! So excited for Second Look day! 😍 good luck everyone still waiting!

8:25 and no call for me. Well, MedPR, wherever you are, looks like I'll most likely be joining you in the "waitlisted by Loyola" club...🙁

Scratching my head, I thought my interviews went so well - much much better than at Indiana (where I got accepted).
