I don't think anyone has really talked about those in this thread, but it seems like OHSU would only be receptive if you are in a mission group. It doesn't hurt to send one, but I'm not really sure they even check their email. It may be better to call -the number is in this thread somewhere.

Is OHSU at all receptive to in the area emails?

The staff are extremely helpful so I would say yes, depending on your circumstances. I sent one, anticipating that I would be in town, and got an ii on an ideal day.

Thanks for the advice...did you send it via email or did you call?

I did both, but I recommend calling. I initially left a message on the machine, but assumed I would never hear back (the invoice blackhole). However, someone called me a few hours later! The staff are amazing.

Good luck!

Also, the only thing keeping me out of the OOS mission group is a disastrous freshman year from the first time I went to college ... almost 10 years ago. Both my sGPA and cGPA are 3.8+ without that first year, but when you factor that back in via AMCAS they fall to 3.5-3.7 and 3.3-3.5, respectively.
Although I'm an IS applicant, my gpa is similarly maimed. Thanks to a messy withdrawal-turned-to-Fs of a whole semester of science classes in *cough* 1996 *cough* my GPA just squeaked in at slightly over 3.0 sGPA/3.3 cGPA. I've done the what-if math and could add about .5 to each GPA without that boat anchor.

Both times I've been rejected to OHSU, I got a feedback interview and they were very clear to reassure me that they factored those old bad grades out when doing their calculation of my academic subscore.

Of course, this kind of holistic review takes human time and is just another reason why OHSU is so infamously slow.

Very helpful, thank you! And good luck!

I'm in a mission group, since I grew up in Portland and my family lives there. I'm not sure what you mean by my status before the invite, if you clarify I'd be glad to tell you what I know. I believe my file just said "under review" for a few months.

You answered perfectly! And when is your interview if you don't mid sharing that and your stats?

Has anybody been rejected by OHSU? From the thread it seems like they only send out an acceptance or hold post-interview.

Mind posting some stats, and you are an Idaho applicant right?

Yeah, Idaho applicant, though I have lived 4 years in Portland. I have completely average stats with a 3.7 GPA and 30 MCAT. I am very lucky in the extracurricular area, and have a strong app in that regard.

Thanks for the advice they were extremely kind. I left a voice message and they responded right away!
Quick question now broadly did anyone get an invite for a Feb interview yet or are they not inviting that far out?

Received invitation to interview Jan. 11.
Hopefully interviewing 2/8.
Complete 10/1.
3.85, 41R.
OOS.

Dear Oregon,

Thinking of you. Will today be the magical day that you think of me too?

Love,
MB

Seems to be random I heard Wednesdays, you and your friend Tuesday's and lately a lot of Fridays.

Interviewed 12/12/12, Accepted (via e-mail) today.

In-state. 35 MCAT. GPA ~3.8.

Unless there are some seriously life-altering events b/t now and August, I'm going to OHSU!

Congratulations!!

When accepted do you have to accept now or wait till May? If you do need to accept - do you need to put down a deposit?

you need to say yes now. They send an acceptance packet with papers to return within two weeks. No deposit needed. 🙂

No new IIs today?

Interviewed last week of November. Accepted today via email.

Today was a good day.

I could be wrong but I don't think anyone has gotten accepted off of hold yet. At least on SDN...

I wish there would be some movement in the hold pool, but I have a feeling it's all going to happen come May 15. They probably figured out the cut-offs they need to get a full class last year (the first year of the MMI) w/o over accepting so even if they are off by a few, they probably won’t be accepting those till May 15, the day the AAMC says they should have made enough acceptance offers to fill their class. After that it will be all wait-list movement, which was pretty good last year. Started out with 38 acceptances on the first day and went all the way up to 68 on August 1st.

Here is to hope :xf:

+1 I wish we had an idea of where we stood in the hold pool with the notice of they still have interviews and that we could go down in number just so we had some idea of where we stood.

I know. Like saying you are in the top 25% or 25-50% or lower 50% out of 150 people currently in the hold pool. And then update it every time they have a committee meeting. It would make planning so much easier. Even that gives them great flexibility in the ultimate waitlist order.

I called the admissions office and got a call back today (I submitted my secondary almost 20 weeks ago & I was getting impatient). I was told pretty clearly that I had been selected for an interview by the MD folks, but since I applied MD/MPH they are still waiting for a response from the MPH folks about whether I will be interviewing for them as well.

OMG!!! THANK YOU! I'm going to call right now! Which number did you use? And did you leave a msg and get a return call or did you actually reach someone off the bat?

Dude! I got a live PERSON! I couldn't believe it! I think I might be the only one that has ever been connected to a live person when calling rather than receiving a return call: (1) I'm still in screening, (2) A decision should be made within 2 weeks, and (3) They did indeed receive my updates. w00t. Jesus I hope I don't get rejected. :xf:

Thank goodness for SDN!

Feel like you can breathe again? Being in limbo has been the hardest part of this whole process for me.

😱This is the first I've ever heard of a cold call going straight through to a warm body. Meaning, not calling directly to an admissions officer whose number you have been given, but actually calling the main line.

Fingers crossed for you both! :xf:

I'm totally envisioning a scenario where some SDNer calls OHSU's main admissions office number, chewing some giant mouthful of food because they were absolutely not expecting a Real Live Human to pick up. :meanie:
