The post-hold refusal tidbit scared me. Checked my status on the portal and am happily still on hold 🙂

For those curious on numbers... second look day (apr 19) we were told ~120 accepted and two more adcom meetings before the waitlist rankings and such.

If I don't hear back tomorrow I'm going to be....mildly irked.

I'm hoping that means that 120 acceptances were sent out and in reality maybe 50% of people have chosen OHSU as their school so about 60 people are actually taking seats, leaving ~80 seats? 🙁

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but it's important to me (and should be for everyone else) to remain realistic. But hopeful? :scared: *nervously twitches* The days have been getting long....😡

I seem to require please in every post so...pleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease just accept alllll of us D:

I love how enthusiastic you all are. It's obvious that you'd all be very happy if given the chance to matriculate, which bodes well for a happy class of 2017! I can't wait for this horrendous wait to end for all of you. I've been there myself and know all too well the toll it can take on you. Hang in there. Perhaps some weekend drinks are in order? :=|:-):

For anyone else wondering aside from PKAguy, the Berkley extension genetics course does fulfill the OHSU requirement (just confirmed with Ms. Zook). It also requires an in-person final exam. I'm about to call to see if you can complete it in one month rather than 3. I'm also about to call and ask if you can count 6 credit hours toward loan deferment. More info to come!

Guero if you don't mind sending me a PM with your cell number I have a few questions if love to text you!

Yea just checked too, that was a little nerve racking, do they not send emails when they reject you before may 15th?
The only emails they send are for interview invites and acceptances, and maybe(?) for the alternate list rank number.

Rejections and holds are never sent via email, but instead lie in wait in the Portal for you to come find on your own.

That's so crazy, it would be a pretty easy task to set up a daily job to check if the status for someone had changed and send an email to that person

Could probably set this up with automator on Mac or a similar program on Windows... But who needs that when everyone compulsively checks the portal anyways :meanie:

Ha true. Would save me the time of checking daily though. We only have two days left I be reviewed right 27/29 plus the stragglers who interviewers might not have made a meeting

Does anyone know the most common way to get a genetics requirement fulfilled online?

just distract yourself with the beautiful portland weather this weekend (if that's where you are) and you'll here back Monday!

Just received my financial aid information with Cost of Attendance today. I attached a copy for those who are interested. Seems inline with previous years.

Thanks! I was looking for something like this on their web page and couldn't find it for the life of me. Probably cause it doesn't exist.

Oh, it's absolutely trivial from a technical perspective. I've always felt that it was a purely philosophical reason on their part. If you don't care badly enough to check your portal, then you don't deserve to know. :meanie:

Probably dealing with making the class demographics in lieu of the LCME probation (for the second time) will make it even more stressful for them.

Anyone know if you can take Oregon State online classes if you didn't attend OSU, or if you are not a current student. They offer an online genetics class I graduated from UW I am curious, can't get anyone from their ecampus on the phone.

Hey Guero, your support has been much appreciated as well 🙂 These adcoms should just accept me already because I'm awesome and such. But seriously, that'd be great.

@Botan: ditto -- pleasepleasepleasepleaspleaseplaseeplleasepleaseeeee 😍

You can apply as a non-degree student and then you will get an OSU ID you can register with.

Yep, this. I never attended OSU but I'm taking an ecampus course right now and registration was actually a very fast process. I had an OSU ID and an ONID email address within a day of when I submitted my non-degree application.

Yeah, I think PKAguy and I are too late for online courses via OSU. They'd end during med school. I've been trying to get ahold of someone from Berkley's extension program to no avail. I'll make a few more calls today. But if I don't get anyone by tomorrow; I'm going to risk it for the biscuit and register. :/

Just got an email alerting me that my financial aid package was mailed today. I'd kiss a goat's bum to land a scholarship! LoL

There once was a school called OHSU
Whose acceptances were very few
So the rest sit here whining
And not-so-secretly pining
Oh god, please let us in too!

😴

LoL, nice!

Oh OHSU, all these people waiting for you
Eating away at those nails while waiting for emails
Crying with anxiety, praying they were priority with piety
Benevolence masked by torpid malevolence
Lest they waste away in wait, please, let them know their fate!

🙂 I heart poetry.

Hahah, any poem that uses the word "torpid" is a good one in my book!

Hey guys, I was hoping for some advice...

Even though I'm a ninja (att: my avatar) I have been having a few issues during this transition period. I have been accepted somewhere very far away, and I am on hold in the only school on the west coast (OHSU). In Oregon I have family, friends, and my partner. My family wants to move with me if I end up out of state, and for that I'm grateful. But I am still very stressed. I refuse to acknowledge the very real possibility of moving out of state. I have moved very often in my life, and this is the one place I've really felt is home. I know it's more probable that I will move away, but my heart and mind is set on Oregon and OHSU. Therefore, I have been frozen, waiting until I hear back from OHSU before moving even an inch in my life.

When May 15th rolls around, it's most likely that I have an ambiguous spot on the waitlist. Then what? Do I set a date in which I will no longer wait on OHSU and then prepare in the meantime? How long should I wait? etc. etc. So many concerns, so few answers.

Help me out here guys.

At the start of this process, My wife and I agreed that our drop dead date was June 1st. We had multiple plans, including selling the house, renting the house, moving, etc. Our life was going to be just about as stressful as you are describing. I really have empathy for your situation. I am so sorry.

I cannot help you too much with your timeline. Start making plans, but leave yourself a way out if you truely want OHSU.

But set a date and stick to it. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Good luck

It is highly unlikely that we will hear anything before May 9th or 10th. Like you said, it may or may not be good news. However, if you really want Oregon, I would wait until you know how you stand (it's only 2 more weeks) and then start making preparations. Low waitlist, tough it out and start plans here. High waitlist/refuse and you can start plans there. The timing is terrible. Unfortunately, there's not a ton you can do to pin anything down besides a bit of cost of living research and figuring our what will need to do either way when the time comes. Hang tight...I know how much this sucks 🙂 On the flip-side...we get to be doctors!

I'm also on hold at OHSU and in a somewhat similar situation in that I have one acceptance already and a lot of preparations to make depending on where I go because of my family. My (perhaps silly and arbitrary) plan is that if I get a waitlist number higher than 60 then I'm going to go forward with my plans to attend the other school. Same goes for if I get a lower waitlist number but I'm still not in by June 1.

Of course if my number comes up before I actually move in July then I'll have a really difficult decision to make at that point, but I can't just keep sitting on my hands when there's so much I have to figure out.

How I currently feel about the OHSU adcom:

Welcome to the most exclusive (that the right word?) on SDN! At least you won't have to wait long

So sorry to hear that. What is OHSU thinking? Some of the best people that I know are on hold. All of you would make wonderful classmates.

Only about two weeks left. You can wait it out. Maybe there will be good news at the end. :luck: for you and all the others that I know that are on the hold list. May you all get acceptances and not be put on hold.

Interviewed 3/22.

At least I know now that I'm not getting a scholarship, which is the last piece of info I needed for deciding where I am going if I get in.
