Still on pre-interview hold. Anyone else?
Still on pre-interview hold. Anyone else?
Yes, indeed. 🙂
Wait so all you hold people out there, no one is seeing what I am seeing?
Then why are you waiting to join the facebook group?
Are you going to come to the second look on the 22nd?
What's the name of the Facebook group?
Okay, I think that if you follow this link you can get to the group and ask to join it. I've never made a fb group before, so let me know if it doesn't work or if you think there's a better way to do it. I am fine with whatever. See you over there!

Unlikely. Once you're on post-interview hold, you will almost certainly have to wait until May 15th. Last year, a few people got accepted off of post-interview hold, but that was a special circumstance.Anyone hear of anyone getting accepted off of post interview hold yet?
OK now I am confused. Somewhere in this link I had read OHSU accepts 15% or so right away, rejects 15% or so candidates and puts rest into hold. Is that not true any more?Unlikely. Once you're on post-interview hold, you will almost certainly have to wait until May 15th. Last year, a few people got accepted off of post-interview hold, but that was a special circumstance.
When OHSU changed from the traditional interview format to MMI, they sent out even fewer post-interview acceptances, putting most people on hold until they felt more confident in the new process. At the end of March 2012, they had to accept some folks from the post-interview hold pool in order to comply with the AAMC traffic rules:
4. By March 30 of the matriculation year, March 15 for M.D.-Ph.D. programs, each school or program have issued a number of offers of acceptance at least equal to the expected number of students in its first-year entering class and have reported those acceptance actions to the AAMC Section for Medical School Application Services.
Now that they've been stable in the new MMI format, I expect that this year they will follow their historical pattern for post-interview decisions, which is to only accept/reject a small percentage and place the remainder on hold until May 15th.
That's still correct - though I've heard estimates of more like top/bottom 10% accept/reject, middle 80% goes on hold. By doing this, in a normal year they will usually have offered the sufficient number of acceptances by March 30th in compliance with AAMC Traffic Rules, and there is no need to dip into the post-interview hold pool.OK now I am confused. Math still does not match up in my mind. I was told they interview 500 people - is that not true? If it is trur then 10-15% of 500 is 75 accepted, 75 rejected and 350 on hold. Last year, because of their hesitation about the MMIs, they accepted less than the usual small amount. For an example, let's say they accepted only 5% instead of the usual 10%. Then, when late March rolled around they had to extend a few more offers (to people who were on hold) to make up the difference.
is the Pennsylvania school higher on your list of schools you would want to attend if accepted? If you were married with two kids, want to go to school in Oregon, accepted to Western COMP-NW and on hold at OHSU, would you fly to Pennsylvania for another interview? Oh...and you're poor...
Any feedback would be great. I don't want to let any doors close if there's a chance I might want that route as an option.

Crazy. 👎Still nothing. I am going to lose my mind soon. Complete...17 weeks?

Thanks, dsoz...that's pretty much what I was thinking, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy before I gave them a call. As much as I'd love OHSU, it's not in the bag. Western seems pretty good, but it doesn't have the same feel as OHSU.Bolded part answers your question.
If you want to stay in Oregon, and are accepted to COMP-NW, then why would you fly anywhere else?
Once I had an Oregon acceptance, I canceled all my other interviews!
I did interview in Florida and Arizona before I was accepted to Western or OHSU, and would have gone to Florida if I was not accepted to an Oregon school. I probably would have gone to U Arizona Phoenix over COMP, and maybe even over OHSU if I was accepted. But I was wait listed in Arizona and accepted at both schools in Oregon. So that is where I am going.
If you want to stay here, then why waste the cash to go to the East coast (unless you just want an excuse to go visit)???
Good luck. COMP is a good school, and you could still get off the wait list at OHSU.

+1Crazy. 👎
I'm sure you must hear something this week, if their 'Feb 15' communication promise holds true.![]()

Thanks for the input. At this point we have all come so far. I wanted to avoid any rash decisions that I could possibly regret. Now I feel quite a bit better about letting it go and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for some good news in May 🙂+1
I did the same thing - once I had my COMP-NW acceptance and an interview at OHSU lined up I canceled my other interviews. If this is where you want to be there's no point in wasting time and money running around the country, especially when you have kids to consider.

It is definitely better not to worry about getting to other interviews. Maybe I'll almost be able to relax for a bit...nah. Thanks bluepotato and dsoz for easing my mind.I know what you mean, it seems crazy to work so hard to get to this point and then walk away from interviews. I'm sure other people would feel differently, but I knew that I wanted to stay in Oregon and I knew that if OHSU didn't pan out I would be happy at COMP-NW. Honestly I'm relieved that I don't have to deal with the logistics of trying to make it to those other interviews now!
My understanding is that your one-on-one interviewer needs to be present at the AdCom meeting when you are discussed. For any given interview day cohort there are at least two interviewers so it's possible that one of them made it to the meeting but yours did not.Interviewed 12/21, still no news. Seen some other acceptances from my interview group on this thread. Does this warrant a call, or does anyone know if they take different amounts of time to come to decisions regarding different applicants/announce different decisions (accept/reject/hold)?
Rejected via status update sometime yesterday. Congrats and good luck to those of you who made it farther than I did! This has been an entertaining thread to follow.

Sorry to hear this. I hope you have other alternatives.

Well, I isn't over yet. As much as it sucks, don't let it get you down. Personally, I am on my third cycle. If you have to re-apply, just make sure to pick yourself up and come back in summer even stronger of an applicant than you are now. There isn't really much going for me this year. Just one interview. I'm already planning my course for reapplication.

I'm a reapplicant, too. Hang in there. You have wonderful stats. The U might come through. Good luck.
Hehe, well, that's what them Utah folks call the U of Utah. 😛Might want to watch how you throw around the term The U. I didn't go to Miami but you might rustle some jimmies.
Cheapest is probably PCC or MHCC
Edit: okay now I'm unsure since that is a 300 lvl or higher. Hold that thought.
Oregon state has it in person and online for summer. Osu also has in state tuition for summer classesYup, it's looking like PDX (PSU)...

+1. To me it makes more sense than Miami.... No offense to anyone out there...
And thanks for the encouragement all of you!
