So I'm slightly confused by the wording for the Dodmerb physical. It says to "schedule your eye exam before you schedule your physical exam." Are they saying your eye appointment needs to happen before your medical exam?

ya i think the doctor that does your physical sends your "complete" dodmerbs packet off

I just read on the Dodmets website that if all exams are on the same day, they can be in any order. *phew*

yeah, it's usually not a big deal, but usually the docs will ask if you've already scheduled your opto before scheduling you (at least mine did).

Though remember to bring a printed copy of your history with you to the exam. Lol, forgot, had to reschedule for a couple days later >.<

part of it is also that they use Concentra occupational health for a lot of the physicals, which do not take appointments, but the eye exam requires an appointment. Usually the two are within a few miles of eachother. At least that was my experience.

Definitely be sure to bring that giant packet the dodmerbs website has you fill out and download [as a PDF].

My physical was straight forward, in and out in one hour flat -- i went on a weekend so the clinic was practically empty.

FWIW, for various reasons I was a late applicant. I wasn't even confirmed on "application complete" until Nov 4. Dec 16 I received my interview invite for the Feb 2 interview date. I was wait-listed Apr 17 (my understanding is that no slots were available at that point anyway). I was accepted April 25.

Keep the faith.

Appreciate the info and the pick-me-up. Still checking my email a few times daily. :xf:

Got accepted this past Saturday!!! Does anybody know how long I need to wait for my security check and physical to be completed? I already finished the physical examination.

I believe they said 4-6 weeks for the physical. I remembered that because it was supposed to be the same for the interview. Not sure about the security clearance. Faster if you already had a secret clearance.

Do you mind if I ask when you interviewed?

I looked it up. According to IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT PHYSICAL QUALIFICATION, DoDMERB will notify you by mail 4-6 weeks after you were complete.

Hey dude.

I got accepted on October 16th. I had my physical done is September (approved), IDK how long it takes to be completed, but just for reference, I'm still waiting.
**and I'm pretty sure they don't go through the whole clearance process until we start school. Because it's so expensive etc, I think they just do a regular background check and make sure you're not a criminal.

Thank you very much! I was interviewed in oct. 4th if you wonder.

I called the person who is managing my file for USUHS about 15 minutes ago. I let her know that I interviewed about 6 weeks ago and I was simply calling for an update on my status. She put me on hold and stated I should here back in the next two weeks [presumably starting today].

Not the best news but at least the silence doesn't equate to rejection.

I imagine I am in the same boat as many of you and simply hope to God that I get in.

I'm thinking I may need to start working on an LOI then...

Interview invite today.

Late applicant. Prior service 🙂

I got an email asking for an explanation of withdrawals on my transcript, and I got an interview. Maybe it shows that they're actually interested in you.

Yeah, I've received several email asking me questions. I think they seem interested. Hopefully, i'll get an interview.

Any one from 10/4 gotten any news yet?
I interviewed on 10/ 4 and havent heard anything.

I looked at last years USUHS thread on SDN and from the 2-3 people in a similar situation they ended up getting waitlisted. One person later got into USUHS, one ended up going to a DO school and the last went the HPSP route. There was one student who ended up getting accepted 7 weeks out I think.

Outside of being a complete stalker it was a useful exercise in figuring out where we, the ones that are currently 7 weeks out from interview, stand. At least from this small subset, I believe, we are more than likely waitlisted because our first choices [I think mine as Army and then Navy] are filled up. From what I also read on last years forum, the waitlist tends to move into acceptance relatively quickly or you can ask to change your service preference and potentially get an acceptance faster.

Take what I said with a grain of salt because this was just a few people in a cohort of 50 interviewees for a given day.

There's a post a little above that says he/she interviewed on 10/4 and was accpted. I interviewed on 10/4 as well and got the phone call today. My first choice was army, so I wouldn't say you are definitely getting waitlisted.

I just wanted to point out that they said at my interview on 11/8 that the percentage of us that would be accepted is probably a little greater than 50%....unless they lied to us haha

They have a 50% acceptance rate of interviewees overall if I remember correctly. Not necessarily from each interview session.

From what I say, they send about 600 invitations to interview, send out about 300 acceptances (307 last year I think), and fill a class of about 175.

As the Dean put it to me, if you interview early, you have a better than 50% chance, because of rolling admissions, and they already really like your application. And as others noted, if you interview in September/October you're pretty solid for USUHS short of you being a complete nutcase in your interview.

Congrats!! and I am extremely happy you proved me wrong! so maybe they're just taking longer than usual?

and to support the other posters point, i've been told by students I know who currently attend USUHS that the earlier the interview the higher probability of getting in and yes they're literally looking to make sure you're committed and not the type to have a first class ticket for the crazy train.

Just got the call today for the conditional acceptance for the Navy. Interviewed on Oct 25.

Does anyone who interviewed/been accepted recently know about the PHS spots? Have they all been given out or is there still hope for a non-waitlist spot?

Did you get your first choice?

I honestly don't know which branch I got, because it wasn't mentioned. Are Navy and AF people called by somone other than Col Saguil. I put down Army as my first and Navy as a distant second and AF/PHS were a no go for me. I assumed I was accepted in Army simply because it's usually the least competitive branch.

I got accepted today! I interviewed Oct 11. Got Air Force (because I'm AFROTC). So excited!

Saguil contacts everyone with acceptances. If you did not ask which branch you got into, I'm assuming you got into your top choice. When I was called this morning, they still had openings in Army and Navy.

ACCEPTED!!! NAVY!! Interviewed 10/11! SO PUMPED! Good luck to the rest of you!

Does anyone know if PH is a popular choice? From searching online and on SDN, I keep seeing mixed comments about Navy and AF being top choices, but sometimes Army being a top choice too... but not much is said about PH?

PH has very few spots. It seems to be a good option but might be hard to snag.

Does anyone know if the school supplies or reimburses for equipment costs like a stethoscope, or if we should simply buy one before matriculation like the civilian schools?

I got accepted in October sometime, but they told me they hadn't selected who would get the PHS spots. They said they would let me know soon, but I haven't heard anything yet. I am fairly sure that there are four PHS spots (2 for Indian Health and 2 for NIH). I don't know when we'll hear about them, but it seems like they'll accept you if they want you and if the PHS is full you'll get an option for your second choice branch. Acceptance is not contingent on having room in your preferred servicceas long as you are open to other ones.

All your equipment will be given to you. There might be some additional books you will want to buy (First Aid, BRS study guides, etc) but all the actual medical equipment is supplied.

Makin' me neurotic man. I interviewed on the 25... what'd they do, skip the 18? lol.

Still sent in an LOI though
Who did you send you LOI to? I interviewed on 10/11 and have not heard anything.

Sent in an LOI as well. emailed the admissions dean and cc'd the person handling my file at USUHS [the person that originally sent the interview email].

They responded promptly which was rather nice and confirmed they received it and added to my file.

Now, back to pretending like im not anxious.

I sent it to the main admissions mail that I was corresponding back and forth with previously.
Might be I go back and CC the person handling my file directly :/

Haha, sorry for the anxiety man. Just wanted to inform people of their progress. Keep in mind that those who interview in Oct typically have 4-6 weeks before they hear back. Being that we interviewed at the end of October, I figured the norm would be six weeks for most of us. I'm assuming I was contacted earlier since my stats were above their average.

I wouldn't fret about whether or not you're getting in. If your stats are around the average, and you didn't completely bash milmed (hell, I was afraid I was too hard on GMO tours in front of the Navy Commander who interviewed me haha), you have a great shot at getting in.

Got medically qualified, now I'm just waiting for security to clear before I get the unconditional.

No worries, just me being plain old way too anxious.

Heh, I saw your stats, mine aren't near as good, but I think still above their* average (33R, 3.7). I think I did overall well with the interviews. The only one that weirded me out was the last one I had, that Captain led off with just really trying to put me off-guard; but it ended up lasting an hour and well past the "checkout" time, so we shall see over the next week or two if I hear back, heh.

Edit: *they're not their, you'd never guess I got an R on the writing section >.<

Just an update for reference. I received my conditional acceptance 10/16 (interviewed 9/20), and I just now received my unconditional acceptance.

So for anyone else getting accepted, it seems like it takes about a month!

I see. You should be fine. My first interview was with the Commander, and my second interview was with an Army Major. I really liked that interview since we talked a lot about just different aspects of the military, and he tried to get me interested in his specialty haha. It would have easily gone past the checkout time, but I had to make sure I got out early and went back to my car to get it fixed since I got a flat tire the night before at my hotel. Yeah... the flat tire kinda threw me off my game on interview day.

Oh yeah, most assuredly, best part of the interviews was were I got to ask questions of them. heh. got a lot of solid info and some realism thrown in and not just admissions speak; I think the most grounding part was the Captain mentioning deploying doctors and having to weigh the psychological effects it would have.

That sucks about that flat! Almost glad I flew in, lol.

Okay, I'm a little confused now. I just got complete email. However, it seems the Director of Admissions has been asking questions about my file (the admissions counselor has been communicating with me). It seemed to me that some information has already been passed on to the committee.

Anybody have any insight?

Conditionally accepted Army about a week ago. Interviewed 10/4, 3.4/3.35, 33Q, received/completed secondary early August and received invite shortly after 🙂
