Hey Tara!

I registered to stay with an overnight host, but I haven't heard anything back. Does that mean all of the slots for the overnight hosts have been filled?

Patty Hamilton, program coordinator for our Student Ambassador program will confirm either way a week out - the University is closed today in observance if Veterans Day. You can call our office tomorrow if you haven't heard back by the end of the day.

Wow, I wasn't expecting you to respond today since the office was closed. But thank you for doing so!! I really appreciate it! 🙂

As an aside, I hope everyone had a great Veteran's Day. I got an opportunity to meet some of our service men and women -- really amazing experience.

Sure. I am a little numb to rejections at this point so it's not that big of a deal fortunately 🙂

I was complete in early Sept but they had some questions about my courses so I think that delayed me a couple weeks. The rejection came 3-4 days after I sent them an update letter... maybe this prompted them to review my app or they didn't like what I wrote. Either way, it's all good as I got an II from another school two days later so I guess it balances out in the universe... good luck to ya!
 
Request: we had a late cancellation and would like to not lose an interview spot. Note: please withdraw as soon as you can if choosing elsewhere - this is a public service announcement for all medical school colleagues.

Good luck on your interview! It's a really relaxed day, and MMI flies by quickly. Just try to get a good night's sleep beforehand because it is certainly a longer interview day than most!

I'm going to be there on 11/26. This has always been one of my top 3 choices, even before I knew which schools would invite me for interviews....This will be my first MMI. So nervous!

Are you guys going to the mixer? Hopefully we'll get to hang out there before our interviews! I'm trying to get there early in the morning on Sunday so I'll have a little time to explore the city. I have family in AZ, but not in Phoenix.

And I agree with you FutureNeurologi, this is my first MMI and I'm a bit nervous as well. This is one of my top schools as well.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! MMI's are definitely interesting here. Phoenix does a really good job of promoting what they're about so I'm sure you'll all enjoy yourselves. Congrats on the interviews and good luck!
 
Yes I will be going to the mixer. My flight arrives in the morning. Staying at the holiday inn express, using the supershuttle I think.

I'll be at the mixer. You will probably know who I am due to my unclever SDN name. Its actually a nick name I got years ago from my previous career but thats another story.🙂 You'll have to let me know who you guys are when we meet. See ya Sunday.
 
I was complete on August 29th. I'm OOS with a 3.71 and 35. I still haven't heard anything yet... should I be worried?

Tara stated earlier that interview invites don't necessarily correspond with completion date.

Applicants are invited to interview based on the admission committee's current interest in the applicant in comparison to the applicant pool. If you haven't been rejected, it looks like you're still in the running!

It looks like I'll be staying at a hotel as well! I got the e-mail from Ms. Patty Hamilton that all of the overnight hosts were taken.

I was able to find a room that's fairly close to the school, so I was pretty happy about that. Check-out time is at 11:00am though, so I'm going to have to figure out a way to see if I can get a later check out time.

Is anyone else having trouble logging onto the application portal? I'm freaking out because I didn't print out the schedule or the directions to the buildings....and I can't find the paper I wrote it on. (fail). I looked at it when I booked my hotel and I know it's really, really close, but I don't want to go off of memory alone.

When is check-in tomorrow (7:30 am?), and what is the name of the building? Health Sciences?

Also, for the person above who was wondering about it: as for the luggage, I just ask the hotel to hold it for me when I check out in the morning. Maybe you can check with your hotel if they will hold it until you come back. I've never met a hotel (at least a major chain) that won't do that for you.

Im having the same problem but I know 7:30am is correct. The new building is huge I dont think you can miss it. Plus there is a desk with security people when you first walk in so Im sure they will direct you where to go.

My login has not been working for the past two days. Does anybody know what is the schedule for tomorrow? Which building we are supposed to meet at?

Also, is the mixer mandatory? Any information about the mixer or the interview day will be gladly appreciate it.

We are experiencing an outage on the Admissions system - here are the details for tomorrow's Applicant Visit Day. See you all in the morning. Welcome to Phoenix - enjoy our awesome fall weather!

Check-in by 7:30 in the lobby of Health Sciences Education Building. Parking and directions can be found on the website - phoenixmed.arizona.edu

You'll receive the agenda at check-in. The days starts with a light breakfast hosted by Student Ambassadors.

The mixer is at 1130 The Restaurant (Arizona Center) and is not mandatory.
 
For anyone who hasn't interviewed yet and is contemplating attending the mixer I give it 👍👍. It was a great opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed atmosphere and work out the nerves before the interview. I really enjoyed meeting the fellow applicants and the first year students.

Hi, all!

I just participated in the MMIs this morning and had such a great time meeting some awesome applicants. As an MS4, I'm quite removed from this whole process, so it was fun reconnecting with the admissions side of things.

I just wanted to let you know that if you have questions for a current student, feel free to PM me. Obviously I can't give specific info on the MMIs, but questions about the curriculum, campus, housing, life as a med student in Phx, etc. are fine. I love my school and love to brag about it. 🙂 There have been some big changes since I was an MS1 or 2, so I can only answer questions based on my own experience, but you all have the amazing Tara for more current info.

Anyway, just wanted to put that out there... I don't tend to watch the thread much, so please PM me if you need anything. Best of luck!
 
I just got home from the MMI and have to say it was a great experience. The stress immediately subsided after starting the first MMI station. The new health sciences building was fantastic. I really enjoyed all of the opportunities we had to speak to the first year students as well. During the tour we were shown a student lounge with light saber toys, so they definitely know how to relax 😀
 
Does anyone know how we should go about writing thank you letters for U of A? I def dont remember any of the names of the interviewers.

Very nice of you to do - one letter to our Office will be circulated with those involved during your MMI session. Send via email or regular mail.
 
I just withdrew my spot in the hold pool. I was accepted to my state school, and plan on matriculating there.

Trying to figure out if this is legit... I'm going to call tomorrow if I don't hear from Tara or someone else on this thread and confirm. I'll let you know what I learn.

In light of the cancelation a few weeks back I understand it, but wonder why they are not using an official email, which is why I question it.

The entire UA email system was compromised over the Thanksgiving break, causing email.arizona.edu to land on all Internet Service Providers' "black list". While our University IT continue to work with providers to begin accepting messages, we had to create a gmail account as a work around.

It's been a very long week - Hotmail just moved UA to the "white list", bringing us back online with most major ISP's.

So, it's legit and hopefully just a temporary move/work around for a few more days.
