Hey guys,

Received Secondary 07/21
Application Completed 08/03

and nothing from them since. How often do they send out II's? Do they just send you one whenever they read your file and like what they see? Top choice school and I live an hour away.. anything I can do in the meantime? email them? call them? bribe them?

There are next to NO schools that require that your prereqs be done before you even apply. It's very easy to find out by simply going to their site to see that they all say, "required by time of matriculation." Do some research, folks!

This is not true for Davis. Maybe you should do some research before giving out bad information.

Premedical requirements must be completed by January of the year of desired entry.

clearly you are the one who needs to do 'some research'...:laugh:

So you were interviewed without finishing all of your requisites? So do you think it's okay that I'm finishing my math requirement in Jan-March?

they won't accept you until you finish it... read it on their website and on the secondary app. rather strict of them imo. especially since acceptances are sent out on a rolling basis, it's not the best position for one to be in to complete classes in march.

Well, then, I guess I shouldn't be sitting by the phone come October 15...I am taking my last class now.

Think of me as Mitt Romney. So my facts and figures are wrong and have little to no provable basis, but the gist of what I'm saying is kind of nice-ish. Do the research since the info is out there instead of just asking on some forums. (However, the vast majority of schools do say by matriculation)

So am I out of the running if I'm going to take statistics over the summer?

I can't find where it says they won't accept you until you finish the requirements. Can you post a link to it? And I looked around the secondary app too, but maybe I wasn't looking very thoroughly.

I did find a page that says you have to finish the courses by January though.

Go to your secondary app, click on the tab that says FAQ, scroll down:

Q. What information will I need to complete the prerequisite section on the secondary materials?
Besides the course names, numbers and grades you will need to know whether the course was offered during a quarter vs. semester term. If a course is pending then provide the month and year that you will complete that course. Remember that 1 year is equivalent to 2 semesters or 3 quarters; ½ year is equivalent to 1 semester or 2 quarters. All prerequisite coursework must be completed no later than June 1 prior to matriculation. In addition, no applicant will be offered admission unless ALL of the premedical course requirements are completed. As a result, it is strongly suggested that ALL premedical course requirements be completed no later than January 1 of the application cycle.

logging into my secondary made me realize how long i have been complete... since july... ok so my friend who was complete after me was just put on hold. who is in the better position? have i gotten silently rejected? i think specifically they are on hold not an interview waitlist.

The way they hand out interviews is really random I think....was complete 9/7 and was offered an interview only 15 days after that, and keep in mind my MCAT is not exactly competitive

Unfortunately Davis hasn't rejected anyone yet and if the past is any indication they do silent rejections. I've been complete there since late June so I've pretty much given up

Edit: Stupid phone typos 🙁

truth. last year i had NO status change (completely blank) until June --> rejection

Damn, what gives? I got put on interview waitlist. 3.82/40 in around early September and fairly decent EC's.

They probably figure you'll get into a better school than Davis, and will turn them down anyway?

I was also put on interview waitlist. I am finishing up a required course in December. Did they put me on the interview waitlist to ensure I took the course/so they see my grade? (Not currently a full -time student so this is an Extension school course I take at night)

Or maybe they just plain weren't thrilled with my stats & ECs.

Maybe I'll find out in January!

does it look bad if students do not sign up to visit the clinics on Saturday? I really want to, it is just difficult with traveling

Really? I thought that type of screening was a myth?

They might want to interview high-yield applicants first because they only have a limited number of interview spots. If I were on the adcom, I would put you on hold for a little because you are likely to be accepted at another school and withdraw your app. If you don't withdraw later by Nov/Dec, you would probably get an interview.

If Davis interviewed all of their top applicants, the yield would be very low. You need to consider that pretty much all CA residents apply there, and that Davis is generally considered to be the "lowest" ranked of all the UC medical schools. It would benefit them to not interview all the top applicants that will likely end up at Stanford, UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, etc.

It's not. Schools care about their interviewed/matriculated ratio. I don't know if Davis does, but there have been a couple very high stat rejections that I have heard of. People lie though, so you really never know.

It's not just being "too good" for Davis, it's seeing you as someone who doesn't seriously want to attend their school

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you're wrong about this. California has more than enough high stat applicants to fill every school. Davis has slightly lower numbers because they seem to care more about selecting people with a strong commitment to undeserved populations.

True dat. I feel that one of the main reasons I got an II at UCD was because of my volunteer work with underserved populations during undergrad.

That's cool. Was that in your interview invitation letter? "In light of your volunteering with underserved populations, we would like to extend you an invitation for interview!"

Davis is notorious for their dedication to primary care and underserved areas, so the snark just makes you look kind of ignorant.

so basically if it has been 2 months and we haven't heard back.. assume the worst. bummer 🙁

Interview invite tonight! So excited!!

How many days does it usually take for UC Davis to mark "letters of recommendation" as complete? I submitted my secondary on 10/1, and it still hasn't marked my LOR as complete yet.

Also, does anyone know if interviews will be granted without completing all pre-req's? I am missing just one course which I will take for sure prior to matriculation.

Took me 2 weeks for the letters to be marked complete.

Sorry I got you all worked up. It was just funny how strong the language was regarding your reason for an II. Umadbrah?

Wut. I wasn't the poster who got an II. I also was not worked up. It'll be sad day when some random internet user using phrases like "Umadbrah?" works me up.

Woah, guys. I did not mean to start anything here! I was just speculating. Let's all take a deep breath.

I don't get why people assume others are "worked up" so often. But anyways. Congrats on your interview and I personally think your intuition is correct.

Hi everyone, I know that it is really late, but I was wondering if anyone can help regarding this secondary. What do you put in the end date of an experience if you are still currently doing that experience?

Nooooooo. Got put on the interview waitlist. Better than nothing I guess...

The photo requirements for Davis are pretty intense...did no one else smile in their photo?
