I know someone with a 27 who got into UCSF.

Med school = major crapshoot :\

I don't know when I was complete either, but I submitted on 7/12. 3.89, 3.89, 39

Its possible to get into UCSF with a 27. mdapplicants.com. But these are very rare cases. These are people who have gone through life experiences: living in poverty, coming from a broken down family where the father is jail and the mother is an alcoholic, etc. These people don't have the advantages that most middle class and upper class people have. So these people are exceptions and shouldn't be compared to other applicants.

Eh, just saying it's a crapshoot. Crapshoot is a crapshoot.

Totally agree. I have essentially an identical app with one of my friends (identical stats, volunteering activities that we did together, same lab we are in together and everything!) and we have totally different interview invites/rejections so far! it really boggles the mind

Just got rejected today too. Man, come on California! I can't seem to catch a break in my own state. I feel exiled from my homeland or something.

+1
Although I wasn't really expecting to get into a CA school. Time to experience a different part of the country for a few years.

Dang this is so intense...I submitted on July 18th so it's been a little over 2 months now. Anyone waiting this long?🙁

Did you submit your primary? Or do you mean your secondary? If they haven't gotten back to you yet, that means they are thinking really hard about your application, which is a good thing. As said earlier, they usually don't sit on your app for a long time like other schools. if they want you, then they'll get ya. Don't worry, you'll be fine!! Go watch a movie or something. I heard this new one about some actors who got trained to be cops for a movie or something is pretty good.

Submitted my secondary July 21st so I guess we're kinda in the same boat? Hoping for good news! But also trying to keep realistic expectations... :xf:

I submitted secondary aug 10th, nothing.

Man... I just submitted today and already can't wait lol. Anyone know for sure if they don't autoscreen by stats (if IS) - I know they claim they don't, if they actually looked at my app and decided to give me a secondary it will make me feel a bit more confident about red flags/etc

Dude, your app on mdapplicants looks really good. What red flags do you have? Did you board a train without purchasing a ticket?

My secondary. I definitely hope that's the case! Even though I have a few other interviews coming up, UCSF is definitely a top choice! Good luck to you too!

submitted secondary on july 13th and haven't heard anything back yet :/

Let's try to stay optimistic! It's really true that this is a ridiculously grueling process...👎

Thanks man, that gave me some assurance! Well the math mentor/ chem teacher were only 8 week projects, I didn't have a great role in research.

Also I'm scared for my LOR, I knew my rec writers a bit, but not really. Like they knew my name and listened to me participate in class but thats pretty much it. My research PI did write a 4 pg LOR for me though (No idea how, I didn't do much and we're not best friends or anything lol)

oh yeah and I applied late lol- verified Sep 15th

Well, according to SDN, September is late. But researching the older threads of UCSF, people have been accepted in March who interviewed in February that got their secondary in December. So, in comparison, you're pretty early.

Yeah, the letter of recommendation might be worrisome. Hopefully, they won't write anything bad about you. If they decided to write you a letter, that means they are decent enough to write good things about you.

Also, a 4 paged LOR? Dang, did he double space it? It's probably longer than my toy train I have.

Nonetheless, I think you'll be fine. Just pray for the best and if you do get an interview, knock it out of the park! FYI, the usually wait time is around 5 weeks, according to my research, so don't stress!

Just got back from my interview here. It was amazing! I'll update with details when I get back.

Thanks, hopefully I get an II! My aunt went to UCSF for med as well! (I wish they had an option for including family member alumni)

Yup, straight M.D. why? :]

Just curious, I wonder if applying for their different programs improves applicants candidacy.

Awh shucks guys. You making me blush. 🙂 But thanks!

Even though I don't have any interview invites, I'm trying to stay optimistic. And I feel most of the users here who hardly have any interviews should at least get one!

Oh jeez, here I go. I'm getting the train rolling and now I feel like doing this:

Interviewing on Thursday. Sooo ready for this. Anyone else on here interviewing on the 27th?

It's a long day (8-5), but everyone makes you feel so welcome there! The dean and everyone else you run into that day really emphasizes that your interview day is more of a day for the school to attract you rather than a day for you to attract the school (although thats a hard thing to keep in mind from our positions)! My interviews were at the end of the day after sitting in on class, lunch, and a school tour, but some people have earlier interviews. All in all it was a GREAT experience, and I'm sure you'll all enjoy it too! The general consensus of my interview group was that the interviews all seemed really laid back, and we all think we did fairly well. When decisions come out 1/3 or us are going to be accepted, 1/3 waitlisted, and 1/3 rejected though.

Also they accept 40% OOS students, but 20% decide to go elsewhere (although 7/8 of my group was from N. Cal and the other person was from S. Cal). Let me know if you have any other questions!
